Sure, but if I ever wanted a Wii I could have gotten one at any point in the last 10 years. The fact that I don't have one means I don't really care about all the other stuff it can do, so that's really not a selling point to me, nor is it a selling point to anyone who wanted an NES mini and can no longer get one.

Getting a Nintendo Wii to play these games would mean dropping more money on something whose only benefit is that I can then buy more things for it, things that I have thus far not wanted.
You are telling me you only wanted 30 games that you couldn't pick out, a controller that was super short that required you to play two feet in front of the TV and a device that can't have more games added to it. Im only focusing on the negatives but they're pretty huge negatives.
Actually I only wanted 17 of those 30 games, but buying those 17 games separately on the virtual console would cost me $85, which is more than the retail cost of the NES mini.

And yeah, that controller cable is absolute garbage and I have no idea how Nintendo thought it was a good idea. It works with my set-up though, as I play all my games on a monitor and would actually just be able to set the NES mini on my computer desk, and the controller would stretch to my chair perfectly.

All in all, the NES mini is just a little gimmicky thing that I would have bought and played once in a while for nostalgia sake. It's a lot easier to stomach spending $60 on that and just having a simple little plug and play toy than it is to buy a Wii, buy an HD converter for it, buy an HDMI cable, and then load my credit card onto the Wii Virtual console to buy the games I wanted. That over-complication of something that I could have done with a single purchase immediately turns me off.

Huge Windows 10 update last night so I hooked up a Gamecube to pass the time that this thing took for what felt like an hour. I haven't had it hooked up in years.

1. 480i is sad.
2. It might be OK on a 19" 4x3 TV. At 32" LED 16x9? My eyes!
3. Played Majora's Mask but NES Zelda 1 and 2 are also on the Master Quest disc.

I'm bitter that Nintendo didn't make the Classic truly available but there are other ways to have some nostalgia fun with their older games. They should find ways to please rather than disappoint their fans.

...I can never tell what Nintendo's business plan is, because didn't the Classic Mini sell incredibly well, to the point it was near impossible to meet the demand for it at a factory level? Surely, unless they cost 70+ dollars to produce, you'd want to keep selling them to make money, right?

It's like they had the big success with the Switch and were like 'hang on guys, we're making a little too much money here' and discontinued this thing for... no real reason. 'S fuckin' weird.

Apparently Nintendo have discontinued the NES classic mini. I'd guess that they want to force fans into buying a Switch to access the Nintendo back catalogue, and pay for their stupid online thing where you only get access to a retro game for a month.
Yeah, no. Nintendo's not exactly consumer-friendly, I get that. But you buy an NES Classic for NES games and you buy a Switch for...well, presently, Breath of the Wild. Those aren't one and the same.

In other news, I'm not going to shed a tear over the death of that overpriced Plug-N-Play machine.

It is almost as if Nintendo actually want to stop people giving them money. The profit margin on the Nintendo Classic must be incredible and with its somewhat limited library is hardly going to stop people buying Virtual Console games.

There are already a mass of clones of the NES Classic on eBay, powered usually from the descriptions by a cheap Raspberry Pi, so there is clearly a market here that Nintendo just want to ignore.

Hell I wanted to by a NES Classic but I'll be damned if I'm playing scalper prices for what is essentially an emulation box.

See this is the thing, the NES mini is not a constant gaming console with constant appeal. It's been made to sell to a relatively small audience as a simple christmas present for one year and when you make something for this limited purpose you make it a limited release because, while headlines like this cause some backlash, headlines like "NES mini now clogging up shelves and being sold for nothing in pawn shops" is POISON.

Nintendo is trying to avoid what happened to things like the UDraw peripheral where the stock WAY outnumbered the market for it.

"but the fact they can resell at huge numbers means that the NES is way under the market"

That really means nothing, the market shifts so quickly and gets bored with anything at a moments notice. The amiibo for example is still a very careful balancing act of making enough for the market but not too many, and even then you have a few in every shop you visit.

Kinda off topic, but I note the Nvidia Tablet costs about 25% more at Amazon now. Wonder if it is a related matter.

there have been plenty of restocks of the NES Mini console. it's not Nintendo's fault if you didn't grab one at any of those times. seems like a lot of people on the internet just want to take the easy way out and put all the blame on Scalpers while taking absolutely no responsibility for themselves
I did not see even one in any store. Even stores that were supposed to get new shipments when Nintendo said "new shipments are coming" never got them or got a pitiful amount. The Gamestop near me only got three in total since launch. The Best Buy near me only got five in total. Also, I live in the US, we weren't allowed to preorder this thing. Nintendo would not allow this thing to be preordered.

There's rumor's of a SNES classic and I'm not getting one at all since I know it'll be a repeat of this bullshit.

..and it's possible that Nintendo discontinued the NES Classic because when they launch the VC on Switch, they don't want to compete against the NES Classic and would rather you buy those games on the Switch.
We have a fire emblem game coming out for 3DS,and the Switch yet most fire emblem fans are going to get both.
Most you say. Can I see your poll data?

Ok I dont have poll data but why would Nintendo realize two fire emblems with out thinking fans would buy both.

If you are starting at the default of 'Nintendo makes logical decisions' then I can understand your confusion.

Nintendo does non amiibo related DLC don't they? I kinda don't buy DLC so I am not up to date on this.
