So a while back I bought a standard DS for when I deploy. Basically since then i've bought total of 5 games:
Brain Age
Dragon Quest Monsters
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
and Animal Crossing:Wild World.
Are there any other games that could be recommended?
I'd like to see the touch screen used more.

In that case you should get The World Ends With You, it requires lots of touch screen use, has an awesome soundtrack, and is just a good game.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Prof Layton and the Diabolical Box

They're fun little games with fairly basic game play and at some points feels more like an old 90s cartoon than a game. But some basic exploring combined with most of the conflict in the game being solved by logic puzzles, you have a solid game. The puzzles use the touch screen quite often. The story is reasonably fun and interesting, keeps you playing to find out what happens at the end. My description doesn't do it justice.

I'll toss in the typical Pokemon Platinum/HeartGold/Soul Silver suggestion, I don't think I need to elaborate on it. You either like it or you don't, you don't me to say anything more.

Phoenix Wright games are solid as well.

Pokemon SS/HG. It sold me on the console, getting a DSiXL when it comes out.

While I think it's a much weaker story compared to its predecessors, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon still has that fun TBS gameplay that I love Fire Emblem for.

Try and track down copies of the Advance Wars games on DS (Dual Strike and Dark Conflict / Days of Ruin). Some of the system's best titles, and hellishy addictive.

Also, some Tetris DS can't hurt.

I could go through a laundry list, but really, the top of my list is Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a remake of the very first Fire Emblem game so of course the story is going to be weaker than the newer games in the series.

It depends on what kinds of games you like

metroid prime hunters
FF 3/4
crono trigger
Kirby supper star ultra
kh 365/2 days
Star fox
Ninja Gaden
Custom Robo

... most of the GOOD DS games are remakes of old SNES games

Advance Wars is always good. I think there is two Advance Wars titles for the DS.
And Pokémon, I don't need to explain why Pokémon is awesome.
Fire Emblem games are also pretty awesome.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike is a must-own title. An insane amount of unlockables keep you coming back again and again and again. Highly addictive strategy game that is more fun then you think. I rarely play through a game a second time, but this one i've gone through at east 5 times now completely.

Wasn't as big a fan of the sequel, "Advance Wars: Days of Ruin". Still fun, but not nearly as addictive.

I like the DS version of SimCity. Obviously, not nearly as detailed as a PC version, but a nice distraction. Also FFIII, CronoTrigger, Contra 4, and the Pheonix Wright series are all very fun.

Elite Beat Agents is a good, quick, music-based game that uses the touch pad heavily. It is unique amongst the standard music-based games (like guitar hero and such) and very addictive.

Everyone else has already mentioned other games I would recommend. Though if no one said it yet, ChronoTrigger is a nice addition to any shelf.

Pokémon Soul Silver
Super Mario 64 DS
New Super Mario Bros.
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Kim Possible (better than you'd think)
