The only Nintendo game I had been looking forward to for the past year and a half was SSBB and now it just sits on my shelf gaining more and more dust. I think that the Wii is destined to become the next Sega Dreamcast. Gaming is entering dark times and our only current hope is Valve because I'm pretty sure their the only competent company left in the industry and everyone else is either money crazed or badshit bonkers.

Explains a lot about the type of games that were being showcased at E3. Hopefully some "proper" games will be announced by the big N fairly soon.

I must have been asleep. Ok no I just didn't really care since I can't go to E3, but can someone explain to me how E3 has been going on a slow downward spiral? I mean when I heard that there would be a release for the PS2 it made me raise an eyebrow, but looking at the releases for 2008 I just have to use the old cliche that the night is darkest before the dawn and we can only hope that 2009 blows our mind with an incredible line up. From what I see the only game I'm looking forward to is Animal Crossing and that's if I had to choose one out of all of those.

Comparing the Wii to the DC is a new one.
The Wii has (up til now) had great sales and underwhelming games - The DC had great games and underwhelming sales.

Anyway... There are actually a lot of interesting looking games coming along for all 3 mainstream consoles.

It's just that the majority of them on 360/PS3 are for the XBLA/PSN and the majority for Wii are from third party developers - (Madworld, De Blob, The Conduit, MLB Power Pros 2, Dead Rising, Day of Crisis, Clone Wars...)

Just to clear it up about that Penny Arcade comic, the first panel is Microsoft, the second panel is Nintendo and the third is Sony. I didn't even watch any of E3 and I could work that out.

Now... by reaching out to grannies and chicks, they've pretty much shot themselves in the head.
Nooo, by doing that they shot us hardcore gamers in the head and made themselves way too rich.

Should have seen this coming. Since the release of the 64, it has been going downward, and now Nintendo has finally bailed out of the 'gamers game market' and found greener grass near a main stream. Or something.

Screwed bigtime
But still prolly a good step for Nintendo... just let 'the big N' go, guys....

We'll REALLY be entering dark times if a Half-life game sucks, and EA becomes a great game developer.

Oh god, I drank too much Dr. Pepper...

Either that, or he's just trying save face in wake of the huge dissapointment. I say the former.
Although there is the possibility that he is just trying to excuse a rather underwhelming showing at E3, its too soon to infer anything like that. Didn't Miyamoto have a hand in making some of the zanier games shown at E3 so he may not see them as dissapointing?

Regardless, only time will tell, unfortunately for some wii owners who only have Animal Crossing to look forward to. I'm undecided about buying a wii and Nintendo aren't helping my indecision much. Sooner they announce Kid Icarus the better, as long as they can pull off a Metroid Prime-esque revival of the franchise.

Well, that was a bizarre press conference for Nintendo. While it's unfortunate that there wasn't much interesting stuff, I think it's premature to be predicting the death of Nintendo. Let us not forget the announcement of the Wii...nobody...NOBODY thought it would work. Believe me, they'll announce something in the next couple of months that will blow everyone away. (Please don't let it be the Virtual Boy Advance).

Smiles!

No, seriously. That is the most overly happy thing I have ever seen, and most likely will ever see. Because of that, I will never smile again.

Really? Maybe it's because you didn't watch E3 that you think that. The guy in the second panel looks nearly identical to whoever that guy was that was doing Sony's piece, hence the reason that we all think that that one is supposed to be Sony.

I think Nintendo's just in a ditch right now. Cheapest console on the market, started out with innovation everyone's copying (Touch screen handheld [Sony has patented one], Motion sensitive controller [Microsoft], "family friendly [Microsoft]). They need something big. A redesigned DS. A late, albeit well received, release of Call of Duty 4 or The Orange Box (Both could probably run on it). A new game from PC designers extraordinare VALVe. Give them a year to replan.

Nintendo has been a dead dog for years on the software side, all they ever do is shoot out the same garbage with better graphics and a bunch of blazing usually useless gimmicks to trick you into thinking it is something new.

This is from a fan of the Zelda series and who owns the Metroid series.

Of course there was no Zelda announcement, they need to save that for when thier new line of "innovative, original" titles falls flat and they need something to convince you to not toss the Wii in the trash.

Oh well. I do trust they are going to come up with something. Reality check people, its Nintendo - the people who singlehandedly saved Console Gaming, with a concept that everyone around them thought was retarded, but was actually one of the most brilliant marketting ploys I've ever heard of.
The same Nintendo that got told a couple years ago that if they didn't start pulling their faces out of their arses they would be bankrupt in a year?

Then again, that DID give birth to the Wii.

Translation: I clearly don't pay attention to how Gabe draws "The Regginator", nor did I read the news post that accompanies the strip in question.

Microsoft was the first panel, the fact that it's Bill Gates presenting with the microsoft "green spirals" gives that away.

Reggie is the guy in the second panel, and that's a good rundown of Nintendo's presentation.

The third panel is Sony, who was unprepared and sloppy, and half of what they showed off was concept art.

Pay attention people!

I thought we were joking about that? But the irony is still there, Nintendo was all three of those combined and then some.

And with the Interview with Miyamoto about the conference, i highly doubt that "casual gamers" watch E3 let alone know about it, so what was the point of telling "hardcore" journalists and gamers about stuff that the "casual" market won't even know about?

Miyamoto did announce a new Pikmin game in a roundtable discussion after the press conference, if that makes you feel better (it does for me).

That makes me feel slightly better. Also, why are we referencing Penny Arcade comics? I thought the internet agreed that they are both (Gabe and Tycho) talentless, unfunny, ugly-ass nerds.
