I enjoy good HD remakes. I never would have found ICO if it hadn't been re-released in glorious HD. Re-releasrs allow old games to fall into the hands of younger gamers. Just look t KH, which actually added things.

As much as I hate to defend HALO, it was a great remake that honored fans. It allowed you to toggle classic and modern graphics and added features. HD remakes are usually great.

How am I wrong with me calling the game lazy? I feel they were lazy because what they did was use original development textures and midis, they used unchanged original GCN models, added a lighting engine, tweaked some settings...how does that add to the experience? How does any of that make it more impacting on your experience in this game?
I'm wrong because I value different things in a game?
I already said they made a competent port, but that's about it. The value has a lot to do with it as if it's not worth rebuying as the original holds up just in telling the story, and the new one adds nothing new then it's not worth seeking.

This is where I say you're wrong: I never said Nintendo made lazy ports/remakes. I said the two Zelda games were lazy, and I stated more than once that Nintendo had some amazing remakes.
First order of business: When I said that you're saying Nintendo put no effort into their remakes, I was referring specifically to the two Zelda titles we've been discussing. I was unclear earlier and for that, I apologize. And now:

For Wind Waker HD, you're not completely wrong, but not completely correct. The music for WWHD has been remastered. It's not fully orchestrated or anything fancy, but the music is composed of higher quality instrument samples. They even added new instrumental tracks. They redrew the UI and the altered the controls in a way to take full advantage of the GamePad. This makes tasks easier to perform and reduces the time spent changing out equipment or going into your menu to view the map(s), so you can keep up the momentum. A new sail was added to as an option the player can use to drastically reduce the time they spent sailing so they can faster get to where they want to go. The Triforce quest was altered to become much less of a slog, so you don't get so bored and discouraged from finishing the game. Are you really going to tell me this doesn't, at all, add to the experience?

As for Ocarina of Time 3D, I'm not sure how you can call it a lazy port. It was literally rebuilt from the ground up for the 3DS. New models, new textures and a few new features. Master Quest has been changed to mirror the world and cause Link to take 2x damage, to make it even more of a challenge. Your inventory can be personally managed for more convenient use, you no longer need to access menus to look at your map and even the boots were changed to items you can put on item buttons for better ease of use. Boss Rush was added for players that want it and even hints were added by way of Shieka Stones, for players that get stuck. Are you going to try telling me none of that, in any way, adds to the experience?

Whether you value different things than I do is irrelevant. Whether you or I believe they're worth the price is irrelevant. What is relevant is the work and effort put into the two Zelda titles. A lazy port would be simply upscaling the visuals, reprogramming the game to work for the system it's being ported to, and left alone just like that. You can value different things and that's fine. That's not what I'm trying to tell you that you're wrong about. What I'm saying is that you are wrong in saying that OoT3D and WWHD were lazily done, like it's a fact. If you don't believe they're amazing and you don't believe the added features add to your personal experience, that's fine. That's what you believe. But yours isn't the only opinion. Whether you believe they're amazing remakes or not so amazing, you cannot objectively claim that they're no more than lazy ports.
I never said my opinion is the only one, I've explicit stated if you feel the game is worth it then awesome, you on the other hand are condescendingly telling me my thoughts on the games are wrong. why ,oh why can't you let me think what I want about this? You started this argument and you've challenged me and are defending a pair of touch ups of games that I will never buy. I thought it was a discussion but this is apparently a lecture on why my opinion has no weight when it comes to Zelda games. I'm not writing an article denouncing them, I'm saying they're lazy remasters on a forum where we discuss things, not where you tell me my thoughts are wrong. This isn't a lightswitch, it's not black and white, I gave my reasons, you gave yours, I see what you mean, you tell me I'm wrong, see where this is falling apart?

I don't think enough was put into it, I think the games are lazy, end of story. You're not going to convince me otherwise I've played them both, in person, full versions I've not just formed this opinion off a few photos and went dur it's a bad touch up of a game. They are barebones efforts, competent touch ups that function and look pretty but don't offer anything special they're not bad, they're lazy, I expect better from nintendo from other remakes they've done far better with.

Edit-
No I don't think the minor tweaks add to the game, because that's what they are, tweaks, if it was that AND they added in the cut dungeons yes it'd be a nice effort! As I said twice already.
I played the remasters, I watched Let's Plays, I'm sorry this seems to hurt your feelings but that is not enough, to me. If that's good enough for you, then that's awesome. I don't know how much I can stress this point enough as you seem to think I'm forcing my opinion on you when I have no intention of that. I'm explaining my reasoning as you've for some reason challenged it.

They did that with Deus Ex, they charged 5 bucks if you already owned the game, had this been a budget release I'd say it was a fitting effort for the money, but they didn't and it isn't. They knew what they did and charged for it, they were fixing complaints the fans had and while many agree it should have been free, 5 bucks wasn't bad, they weren't charging 50 for it.
------

I've stated my reasons why and if you disagree fine, but I think it's time you lay off the pressure because I frankly don't care to be talked to when you're defending this with a fanboy shield and I've been pretty polite here, because again, I'm 'answering' why I feel it isn't worth it since you posed this to me. I'm not trying to convince you, at least hoping you'd understand, but you don't so oh well.

You like the games, that's great, I don't, get over it.

I can't hate on HD Releases for games, I mean in truth there's several game collections I've played for the first time because they are all packaged together in a HD release (Jak and Daxter for one) and yes I went out of my way to buy Ico & Shadow of the Colossus HD despite owning both for PS2, fully knowing that it was just an HD upscaling (with a few minor behind the scene videos).

I can understand if someone can't justify buying them, but in my mind it's basically the difference between buying a game on DVD or Blu-ray. Sure it's the exact same game/movie and one is more costlier, and maybe I do already own the SD version, but let's just say I'm in a bit of a collector's mood and want to experience the game in the best way possible on my HDTV... lo and behold I can do that.

I have no issues with HD re-releases, I actually wish more games would get it (Final Fantasy XII please!)

See? You're doing it again. You're telling me that I'm arguing the worth of the game to us. Defending the game like a rabid fanboy. I am, in truth, not at all defending the game's worth. I'm not telling you your feelings are wrong, at all; that's not for me to decide. You weren't telling me that you think they're lazy, you were telling me they ARE lazy.

There's a difference in telling me how you perceive something and what that something actually is. This isn't a matter of whether you or I like the games or think they're worth the price or effort put into them. As long as you continue to try and come at me from that angle, you and I may as well be having an entirely different discussion with each other, at the same time.

I never came at you with my opinion. Beliefs and feelings have no place in discussion upon facts. If you believe they're lazy, that's fine and that's what you think. But if you're going to argue that, don't tell it to me like it was a matter of fact.

I'm just going to say we agree to disagree. Our time spent on each other has been proven fruitless. If you'll agree, I would rather we simply shake hands and walk away.

Oi man again I was not saying my opinion was fact, I don't think I could have stressed when I said the port was lazy that's what I felt. Again, you went in and had a good time, I went in and said if I paid money for this I'd have have been mad, I really wish I knew what I said that got you thinking this was me stomping about like Rawr I'm right and you're wrong because I don't feel that way in anyway, I feel your statements are totally right but I don't agree, doesn't make sense but I've been up for ....32 hours?
I was going to erase my post and say the same, no interest in an angry argument, I like discussing things. I don't really expect to come out in agreement but I'd like to at least walk away with understanding.
I'm not mad, hope you're not, maybe we'll chat on something later and agree on it.

The way you spoke, it sounded as you were trying to tell me they are lazy ports, rather than trying to tell me that's what you think about them. If this is not the case, then I would like to believe that neither of us fully understood the other(by virtue of trying to argue different things). In which case, just understand I wasn't trying to tell you that your opinion was wrong. In any case, nobody sees eye to eye on everything, so hopefully we'll find something better to discuss at a later date.

They aren't perfect, look at the Starfox remake on the 3ds. Half of what make that game memorable was the awesome hammy voice acting, so what do you do? Redub every single voice and remove more than a few lines referring to death.

It seems petty but it really breaks the nostalgia, which is a shame because they made it look so pretty.

I'm pretty poor at explaining things, I can say that for a fact.

Case and point about your case, when summed up in a leather bound folder in a leather briefcase- I see your case and it's been filed.

Good thing to discuss; how about that steam sale? Got another addition to a nice collection of the SEGA variety, gifted to me no less by a kind jerk of a friend. Phantasy Star 4, awesome game <=recommended on any collection. Both on topic and positive, I can dig it.

I'd like Steam sales better if I was able to take advantage of them. I'm still using an 8 year old laptop because I can't afford a better pc, right now. So I don't game on pc at all. D: I recently came to possess a copy of Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl. Never did get the chance to give the Etrian Odyssey series a try and as I understand it, this one's a reimagining and remake of the first game. The aspect of drawing your own dungeon map is...interesting, to say the least. I started up in Story Mode, but I'm tempted to try Classic, to see what the game was originally like.

No, oh God no, not that game, that's the really classic style game where they are both REALLY mean with combat and like you said classic to a t making you draw your own map? I just watched my friend erase his SMNT nocturne save file because despite his nice great gameplay for hours, he screwed one thing up and couldn't get Dante.
I had a game like that on the DS, Dark Spire, that game spit in your face, kicked your nuts and threatened you, said "if you don't say thank you, I'll cut your nose off". I still have nightmares......................................... I like cake.

The combat is a bit mean. I can't seem to discover any items that recover my MP, money is scarce and Ariadne Threads(they take you out of the dungeon and back to town) are expensive as all get out. The map drawing isn't that bad, as they give you the option to make the game automatically map floors and walls as you pass by them. Though icons and little extra flairs are still all on you. I bought it pre-owned because I wasn't sure I'd like it. Right now, I'm about in-between. I'm really hoping the combat gets better, because I'm having an extra rough time of it. Shin Megami Tensei was easier than this.

Well maybe not SMNT on hard mode, but I can imagine the difficulty, and my eyes are already bleeding, thanks for that by the way.
No no I've been just getting into a classic series ...by playing the latest one and working backwards, just started with Ys Memories of Celceta and will be playing Ys 7 later...you know games of a more sane difficulty...then after I get though P3:p which brings me to OT

Another good port thing, Persona 3 Portable, it's a bit cut down in some ways as it was a PS2 game on a full on DVD crammed on a UMD but it's been fun...I couldn't get into the original one that my friend let me try but with the ability to go into standby and crap it's a bit easier to get into, maybe it's just me but portable RPGs are just easier to get into with the whole standby mode.

I tried getting into Person 3, I just didn't care much for it(Portable was the version I had before my PSP was lost). I was sad because I wanted to take Akihiko and Misturu with me into the dungeon, but the game wouldn't let me. :{

I once had Ys I & II for DS. The one that came with the bonus sountrack. Personally, I think the DS remake was pretty and sounded great. Ys is definitely a fun series to play.

The Ys games have been remade ......probably to death by this point, I think 1 & 2 are on at least 7 platforms, you can probably play it on your microwave. It seems like it is very fun to play, as I said I decided to start it the best way you can start ANY series, from the last/newest one! <=my amazingly shitty habit.
Did it with Firefly (saw the movie first), saw Avengers (then the other marvel movies), few other things I can't recall because I've been up for 38 hours.

...But yes great series so far!

No no I've been just getting into a classic series ...by playing the latest one and working backwards, just started with Ys Memories of Celceta and will be playing Ys 7 later...after I get though P3:p which brings me to OT

I tried getting into Person 3, I just didn't care much for it(Portable was the version I had before my PSP was lost). I was sad because I wanted to take Akihiko and Misturu with me into the dungeon, but the game wouldn't let me. :{

I can't play anything out of order. :{I won't play a series if I can't play it in chronological order(which I suppose makes me lucky, as far as Etrian Odyssey Untold is concerned).

I don't usually try to, Firefly we found out there was a show after I read the box and we were all :|
Ys ...doesn't seem to matter too much, like Zelda the games aren't technically linked, each game is it's own adventure

Is it wrong of me to pray for a HD re-release of the Megaman Legends Trilogy? It would drum up interest to maybe get Legends 3 made. Mostly, I just don't want to pay ~$200 to get the two games that were short printed because the PS1 was on its last legs. Of course, Inafune has left to make "Totally Not Megaman", so the possibility of this is dwindling by the second... And yes, I know they did a port to the PSP, but they didn't bother localizing it, and I can't read moon speak.

Don't bother with the ports to the PSP, as they are utter crap. I have both of them and can understand Japanese. While the Legends 2 one is decent, the first one is absolutely terrible. It's as if they ported the N64 version onto the PSP because the graphics screw up all the time. They didn't bother fixing any of the issues in it as well. The only real positive thing about the port for Legends 1 is that they updated Megaman's model, you'll be able to tell believe me, and that he can be controlled with the analog stick. Problem though is that the default settings have it use the d-pad, for both versions, and unless you know Japanese then you might not know how to turn it off. Worst of all, they bit-crunched the music! They took the files and literally bit-crunched them to where you will want to cry because it sounds so bad, which is made even worse by the fact that the PSP was the first console capable of being able to stream music without needing to use .MIDI sound files, and they bit-crunched the music like it was being made for a SEGA Game Gear.

Sadly though, I don't think there will be a Megaman Legends HD collection, as much as I'd love it since I'm a giant Legends fan. The reason is because there are licensing issues when it comes to the music and voice actors. Basically that's why it's never seen a VC or PSN release, because the games are caught in the same limbo that Earthbound was caught in for ages.

I actually have really appreciated some of Sonys this gen. Mainly because I gamed mostly on Gamecube last last gen, so missed the GOW games, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly and I've really enjoyed all those titles (and in the case of GOW HD collection, got me up to speed for GOW3)

Well if they're self-contained titles, playing them out of order doesn't particularly bother me. :p My entry to the Final Fantasy series was X. Played backward from there. I would very much love a remake for IX.
