Ehh. Doubt it will be much more powerful (if as powerful at all) as the PS3. To be honest, I can't see this going particularly well. It'll still have to contend with the PS3 and 360 for a couple of years (which both have a huge amount of support and not many people are going to get a Nintendo thingy that's $400 when they've all ready got well supported consoles that really won't need replacing) and then when the new Sony and Microsoft consoles are out Nintendo will get dicked in the eye.

I will buy if it has:

Proper controllers
Proper online system
And games

Basically I'm asking for what should be reasonable by now.

Sorry Nintendo. You bit me one time too many with the Wii.
And my Wii is a useless white box that sits in my room collecting dust; I would have sold it long ago if not for its ability to play Gamecube titles.

Well Colour me indifferent.

The only Nintendo franchise that i have really enjoyed is The Legend of Zelda series. Sure it would be neat to play some Hi-Def Zelda someday, but i'm more than satisfied with the current looks of the upcoming LoZ: Skyward Sword.

Also on a sidenote:
Pretty much every game related news site is spamming their boards with news of "Project Café"

Anyone thinking 'it can't be much more powerful than a ps3 or 360' needs to slap themselves are start paying attention to PC hardware. The current fastest card is 12x more powerful than the ps3. TWELVE: T-W-E-L-V-E times more powerful and the average run of the mill card you can buy for about $150 is about 7 times more powerful.

The next generation will be twice as fast as the current gen of GPU's if an ex nvidia employee i know is correct, so that will mean the fastest cards of next generation will be TWENTY FOUR times faster than a ps3.

So, how can the nintendo not be faster?

P.S. The rumoured GPU is the nintendo is about 4 times faster than the 360, and is 3 year old PC tech. However, it's the best a console can get at the moment due to power and heat restraints. Those 12x faster cards i was talking about won't be fitting in an xbox any time soon, hell, neither will the 7x faster ones. By the time they fit into a console the PC hardware will be 4-8 times faster.

I think everyone is misunderstanding what Nintendo means: Though the Wii's successor will be an HD capable machine, it will only be more powerful than 360 original Xbox's and 3 original Playstations. How they measured this is uncertain but I assume duck tape was involved.

Anyway, I love how some of the rumors claim that Nintendo is going to try winning back the hardcore fan base with this new console. I also love the (alleged) inclusion of a traditional controller. This is one I'm going to keep my eye on.

Now that the Wii will have something more powerful than the Xbox
Im sure Microsoft will have something up their sleeve for this
so be ready for something new from Microsoft within the next few months (just a guess)
Either that or they pull out by 2014. While the XBox and XBox 360 are excellent machines, they apparently are hemorrhaging money out of Microsoft. If they don't have something up their sleeves, they will probably be screwed bad and have to leave gaming.

And while I am sure Sony can pull out one more console, if that console isn't a seller, then I am not sure Sony can go to Gen 9.

OT: I am definitely excited for this! I've always been a Nintendo fan (Since my first Console was the N64), and I've loved every Nintendo Console I've owned (Including the Virtual Boy), so I am sure to love this too.
I seriously doubt that they will pull out of the console market.
They would be more than likely to make something equal or better.
A strange thought is that Sony and Microsoft start working together and create something
But Someone must keep dreaming :p

I wonder how many people realise just how bad the tech inside the 360 and ps3 is now? :)

Being congratulated for being faster than a 360 is like winning a medal for getting up in the morning in the tech world. The slowest graphics of this generation are faster than a 360.

Remember, microsoft have the PC. If they made a 'windows for gaming OS', they'd be rolling in it. £50 a pop (for example) per OS would make much more money than the 360 did with regards to hardware. If they actually got off their arses and sorted out a good digital distribution service that'd also make them a lot more money.

At a $400 price point with current tech, Nintendo should have hardware much more powerful than the 360 and ps3.
I wonder if M$ and Sony will announce their own new systems and paper specs soon after E3 and rush to make their own new consoles.

If the competition don't and stick with their previously stated long term plans for the ps3 and 360, Nintendo will a good chance at conquering the high end console market aswell.

Pretty much, although i think this generation coming will be a PC lead one. Right now you have a market that is at the very smallest as big as the 360 (and in reality much bigger) with tech that will be twice that (on average) as the new Nintendo.

The nintendo will benefit from the PC lead games since any multiplatform across the 360/ps3/nintendo and PC will look a lot better on the nintendo too. So i can see it crushing the 360 and ps3, but the install base on PC now means it'll be difficult for new consoles to start up due to them already being 2-3 years behind the PC. The main advantage of this generation was that it matched high end PC's, this time there's no chance of that.

I completely agree with you there 100%
Windows Gaming OS
Then again it is cheaper to buy a console than than a PC

Yes, but it's more expensive to buy console games than a PC (to the tune of £10-15 a pop), and you need a PC anyway (to the tune of £300 as a minimum) :) So overall it's far cheaper to build a gaming PC than have a PC + console. Plus PC games do look a lot better and there are a lot more exclusives on PC ^^

Also, ya, an OS that is stripped down to bare essentials for gaming would be awesome. No reason why it couldn't start up in a matter of a couple of seconds and basically just have a web browser and a limited selection of non-gaming applications such as steam.

1-Take the OS take out the unessentials
2- Add Performance boosters
3- Sell at reasonable price
4- Happy Gamers and profit

The Wii was great, so I'm quite curious about Nintendo's new console. But $400?? If it really does stay at that price, I'll wait. Maybe just a little because Nintendo isn't really known for price drops.
