Yup, Could even add an option in the OS to boot into 'full' windows if they have it too. They could sell the two versions separately, i can't see why microsoft wouldn't, it's like free money for just getting rid of stuff. Obviously the reasoning behind not doing it up until now is keeping the 360 alive, but if they could make so much more money from just making everyone play on PC next generation why not?

They could even port the 'cheevo system over in it's entirety and build it into the OS as opposed to a crap shell over the top like GFWL so 'cheevo whores can keep them. Although online gaming will obviously be free, otherwise i'm pretty sure valve would just make a competing OS and win. Or no PC gamer would bother buying the OS and stick with regular windows, defeating the point and losing a fair number of buyers.

The 3DS and now a new console? Nintendo is rolling baby!

Hopefully both these systems will have a solid library of games, and I will have no problem calling myself a Nintendo fanboy.

Well they came out with the 3DS and that sucked hard, so maybe this console will make up for it. But unless they have some original games for it, I most likely won't even look at it. Unless it has Twilight Princess 2 or something.

Does this mean Project Cafe would get multi-plats? Might get one then.

Depends on the adoption rate of the console i would assume. Although it's not like it'll take much effort to make the games on the new nintendo, all they'll need to do is take the average PC game and select 'medium' at 1920x1080 in the options instead of 'low' at 1280x720 like for current consoles.

True...and then I could play the few decent Nintendo exclusives again :D

I'm glad Nintendo are trying to appeal to core gamers and casuals. Very smart move adding normal controllers+wagglan sticks.

I predicted this forever ago when Wii was first released. See back in the olden days of 2006 there weren't that many households with HD televisions and the whole HD format wars were just starting up. Nintendo expertly read the market and saw that while a high cost, high power console would last longer it would be a much harder to justify over the existing ps2/xbox. Because to get the most power out of the new console you would also have to shell out for a new HD televsion which was very expensive when the current gen were first released.

So Nintendo went with a lower power console and commodity hardware, backwards compatibility, a unique control scheme and a pack-in Wow factor sales tool; Wii Sports. And it totally paid off handsomely. Only recently did the sales of the other 2 consoles combined match Wii sales.

And now, when the competition is so heavily invested in their subsidized hardware platforms, Nintendo rolls out with a new one. And it will have some other innovation that the followers will scramble to match years later.

This may be good for Nintendo, but bad for the gaming industry. Both Microsoft and Sony promised developers a 10-year console cycle. Breaking that promise will have serious repercussions.

Honestly it doesn't matter if this new console isn't as powerful as the Wii, people will still buy whatever it is. I've personally given up on Nintendo putting out anything of noteworthy quality.

If motion controllers are used again, you can be sure of it.

According to the rumors, the console is "significantly" more powerful than the Xbox 360 or PS3, is capable of HD graphics, and is backwards compatible with the Wii.

If they add a sustainable online service for multiplayer on the internet then I am sold.

Imagine SSB online!

Anyone know if nintendo plans to do this?

As long as they start making 2D Metroid games again, I will sing Nintendo's praises from the rooftops.
I'd be good with another Prime game. Just as long as we don't have another Another M debacle. *shiver*

So, this makes me really freakin' happy, actually :D As a former Nintendo fanboy, I can't wait to see what they have in store.

You know, a console that will be significantly more powerful that the PS3 and the 360 now will be utterly dwarfed when Sony and Microsoft rolls out their next gen consoles (which if trends persist, will make the PS3 and the Xbox look like the Master System in comparison). It will put the Wii right back to last class standards.

Anybody else getting a little bit of a Dreamcast vibe? Screens in the controllers, more powerful hardware that's going to be obsolete the second the competitors announce what they're going to do, early launch... In either case, I know where my tax refund next year is probably going towards.

The specs look seriously unimpressive at the moment. Saying your new console is more powerful than a 6 years old machine simply doesn't cut it when it would loose to any pre-built PC in this day and age.

I will buy if it has:

Proper controllers
Proper online system
And games

Basically I'm asking for what should be reasonable by now.
Pretty much this. If it's a legitimate console and the real successor to the Gamecube, I am interested. If it's just another gimmick I don't give a shit.

What's the logic in releasing Skyward sword on the Wii next year if a new console will be releasing?

Oh man I can't wait. This seems like a really great idea. Heres to Nintendo's new console.
