Can't say I'm too outside of the "Meh- shrug" camp on this one. The Wii has yet to produce more than four games I'd want to play enough to possibly buy and it has nothing to do with the power of the system itself, just the game selection and quality. A new system will not be redeeming Nintendo to me, nor prying any of my gamer bucks from my purse.

However, it was amusing to note that as of this moment this thread has as much interest, being measured in responses -78 comments apiece- as the umpteenth "My LittlePony" thread this month. Boggling...

So who wants to bet that the new Zelda game will deliberately get pushed back so it can be ported to the new system for it's launch?
I regret reselling my Twillight Princess for GCN... it was a great game. EDIT: and better than its wii port.

I can imagine that Nintendo is going to have a powerful console. After all, the Wii, DS (and its upgrades) and the 1st party releases have sold incredibly well so i'm assuming that Nintendo has more money then god.

It shouldn't be too hard for them to put together something more powerful than consoles that were put together 5+ years ago.

They're going to be in the same sort of position they were with the 64, kind of a half step generation (for young readers the N64 came out between the 32bit PS & Sega Saturn, before the 128 bit Dreamcast & PS2).

Now that the Wii will have something more powerful than the Xbox
Im sure Microsoft will have something up their sleeve for this
so be ready for something new from Microsoft within the next few months (just a guess)
Either that or they pull out by 2014. While the XBox and XBox 360 are excellent machines, they apparently are hemorrhaging money out of Microsoft. If they don't have something up their sleeves, they will probably be screwed bad and have to leave gaming.

And while I am sure Sony can pull out one more console, if that console isn't a seller, then I am not sure Sony can go to Gen 9.

OT: I am definitely excited for this! I've always been a Nintendo fan (Since my first Console was the N64), and I've loved every Nintendo Console I've owned (Including the Virtual Boy), so I am sure to love this too.
There was a rumor a LONG time ago that Microsoft was working with Blizzard on their next-gen console. (Successor to 360) But as for the nintendo announcement, good! I might get one. I saw no reason as of yet to buy a 3DS so maybe I'll have reasons to get Wii2 or "Project Cafe" as they claim.

I cant wait to play HD mario....
My sentiments exactly, except replace Mario with Zelda.
*cough*pikmin3*cough*

With any luck anyway...

EDIT: Or actually, maybe they will get round to making a PROPER final fantasy: crystal chronicles sequel. Or a remake. Hell, i'll settle for a proper hd version.

Congratulations Nintendo, if you released it 12-18 months ago you'd probably still be dominating the market.

This console could do Nintendo the world of good, but they better hope they have some better titles on release compared to the 3DS.

What continually boggles me with Nintendo is that not only have they essentially segregated themselves from cross platform titles, getting only exclusive releases, they neglect to release hit Japanese titles in English. Where is Last Story Nintendo?

Work on getting quality third party releases and catering for the ones you do internationally, or consider yourself dead in the west.

I will never buy a platform for hardware over software.

The thing with Nintendo is that they have always waited until the technology becomes cheaper and more efficient before they start using it. It prevents things like faulty hardware and poor battery life. They've made up for this by offering lower prices and carving themselves a unique niche in the market, so they have less direct competition (while everyone else is real is brown HD FPSs, Nintendo has more exclusive games aimed at a different demographic).

That being said, I'm intrigues as to what this console will look like. Are they gonna follow their usual formula or just do it the same way as everyone else? I'm hoping for the former.

How much do you want to bet that by TGS this year Sony and MS will officially announce that they are also working on their next consoles? Of course, they won't be out until at earliest 2013 but a logo and a proposed spec sheet can go a long way to completely taking the wind out of a competitors launch. Just ask the Dreamcast.

Sounds cool, I'll have to see what happens. I just hop e the internet isn't filled with "ducked-tapped together wii" complaints (even though I know it will be).

I laugh at them for even saying that its going to be more powerful then the 360 and PS3. Though in the long run, I really don't care. I am happy with the 3DS as far as I go with Nintendo.

I look forward to this.

I passed on the Wii even though I was brought up on the Nintendo line of consoles... I'd happily get the new Nintendo console if it lives up to its potential. If only to play Zelda, Mario, SSBs and other new entries to the epic games they make.

and Nintendo has already become the talk of E3
Not for entirely the right reasons. I imagine many critics expect Nintendo to fail with their next console. A console on its own is not enough.
