Well it appears Nintendo's first punch was casual, and now this punch is "hardcore" if E3 is anything to go by.

They took care of the casual audience, now they're gonna bring in the hardcore.

Unfortunately for them, Microsoft and Sony are several years too late to the casual party, and will be starting from a position of considerable weakness.

-Little third party support.
-Higher price, less incentive. Think about the market they're entering and 350 bucks sounds like a hard sell for any casual gamer.
-The fad has already been done. The raging hot fire sales of the Wii have already saturated the market.

The two are not without some strengths...

+Both systems are technologically superior in just about every way.
+Sony and Microsoft have the balls and the market to move ahead and make more mature titles using their new motion tech.[caveat*]

*But will they? Will this be marketed exclusively towards the casual/family demographic? Their presentations have strongly suggested that is their intent, because the entire purpose of these motion control gimmicks is not to bring new innovation to gaming, but to cut into Nintendo's lucrative market share. The business incentive to broaden their reach takes priority over actually putting the tech to use.
If that means copying Nintendo's formula just shy of lawsuit territory, then so be it.

They should have saved their motion controls for next gen instead of trying to force it on us half way through this cycle.
I was just saying that to my brother. Really no ones going to want to buy 2-4 new controllers plus the camera thing or whatever... it's just not consumer friendly. I can't see these going over well.

Looks like they are willing to fight...the question is, will there bullets actually hit or be duds against the behemoths that are Song and MS

Ah, Reggie. Good on you, man. Good on you. Not only will they crush with the new Wii lineup, but the immediate inclusion of third party support on the 3DS is gonna give them plenty of opportunities to casually turn around during this race and see Sony and Microsoft trying to run in the same lane, a few miles back. Though, my bad earlier in the year, predicting the PS3 to jump higher up. Just wasn't meant to be, I guess, not with all these releases.

I was thinking that too. The fact that both Microsoft and Sony are giving out motion controls in this gen kinda makes it look like they're just desperatly clining onto the same idea Nintendo got up and running three years ago.

Holy shit, I think Nintendo has mob connections.

Okay, okay, that's not funny or true, and I apologize for that very bad joke.

I wasn't thrilled about this, but I have to say I must give him credit. I own all three consoles and only bought the Wii for the cheap motion control crap that made casual gamers all over the world love it! My girlfriend plays it all the time. Personally, I am not looking forward to Kinect or Move simply because they're seeking to get in on the Wii's casual gaming crowd. If you already own a 360 or PS3 then you most likely won't buy Kinect or Move because that's not what you wanted from your console in the first place! If you are just trying to add to your consoles entertainment power (like me trying to get my girlfriend into gaming), then why not stick with a rather cheap already popular method. Buy a Wii.

I think this is all Reggie is trying to say. He's simply pointing out that Nintendo's proven they can out sell Microsoft and Sony and I bet they also have something up their sleeves to fend off anything that Kinect or Move throws at them.

I think, if you wanted gimmicky motion controls, you already have a Wii, you're either very happy with in (in which case you don't want Kinect/Move) or you were disappointed by it, in which case you're probably gonna stay the hell away from Kinect and Move.

Hi, Nintendo. My name is *censored* don't care about your long running franchises. Kirby, Donky Kong, Metroid, couldn't care less. What have ya got for me?
Nothing? Okay, I'll be over here with Playstation.

I'm betting Microsoft isn't going for a huge marketshare, rather they're trying to gain a foothold for the next console cycle. As for the Move... It's way too expensive. There's no way I'm investing in that when a full set of controllers would cost as much as a Wii. I'd rather buy a damn Wii.

Which leads me to my next point: the motion control gimmicks can't take off unless they're bundled with the console. I could be wrong about that but I don't see them doing huge numbers when it's not a core part of the console.

GOD do I love every word that comes out of Reggie's mouth. :3

As for my opinion, Kinect and Move will sell enough to pay off for the development of the products but they won't sell enough to even come close to what the Wii has accomplished. Which is, you know, selling enough systems to become one of the most successful video game console of all time. Just sayin'...

EDIT: I messed up some of my facts. Don't worry, they're corrected.

The image itself is fine, but the man in it is what worries me. I don't know, just Reggie's overall "bullshit" factor or something. It probably wouldn't bother me if Nintendo wasn't actually capable of following through with any of this.

Looks more like, "Whadya want me to do? I'm sorry, just sayin' it like it is." complete with a Brooklyn accent.
