Wow, the price sounds reasonable enough, let's hope it doesn't get insanely expensive over here and regarding the memory, let's also hope the thing can let us expand upon that using our USB thumb drives.

Europe??
When is this coming to Europe???!!!
The price wasn't as bad as expected and there seem to be at least a few decent games at launch (FIFA13, Pikmin and ZombieU).
What's up with everyone so worried about the hard drive sapce amount thingy? I mean I haven't yet ran out of memory on any console I've owned...?? (If someone wants to clarify this to me then please do)

$299 - $350 eh? Not a bad offer Nintendo. About matches what I would be willing to pay, especially since what you are offering is an Xbox 360 (v 1.1).

400% more memory at only 33% more price? We'd be fools NOT to buy!
Hey at least they aren't Apple where they'r charging $100 more for nothing more than 32GB of memory.

32GB iPhone 5: $299.99
64GB iPhone 5: $399.99

And that's literally the only difference, just the memory.

Those aren't even the full system specs I'm guessing but I can already see that this is not a system worth $300. They'll either have to drop the price or release one with better specs. I mean ffs 2gb of ram? Darksiders 2 has a minimum requirement of 2gb and they're only alotting 1gb to processing games? Dude this piece of crap is going to choke on that game alone.
You're not serious are you?... a PC game doesn't work the same way as a console game does, just ask the Xbox or better yet, the PS3 with their anemic amount of ram memory.

In console language, 1 gb of ram is kinda big deal, let alone the rumored 4 gb for the rumored new Xbox.

On behalf of my retail brethren, I would like to say that it has been an honor serving with you.

Black Friday is going to be MURDER.
I worked Black Friday at GameStop the year the Wii and PS3 launched. Good luck, sir.

So how long until Sony and Microsoft announce price drops?

The price is decent but 8-32 GB storage worries me. Why so small?
It tells me they are not going to have much of a digital distribution platform, again. Last generation that was kind of ok, especially with the market they were targeting, but to omit that today... well it is going to be bad news for Nintendo if they don't have a strong competitor to Xbox Live and PSN.
And with Steam's Big Picture in beta there's now a third major digital distributor fighting for time on our TV screens. Nintendo can't just keep re-re-re-re-re-releasing their games forever.

The fact that Nintendo is relying on consumers to use external hard drives for more space is an issue with me as it shows that the console is not truly on the same level as the PS3 and 360 like they said it would be.

Wow, they are really pushing the envelope with that hard drive space...

And... is this serious? The US is getting the Wii U before japan, AND cheaper? Sounds like a sure fire way to bite the hand that feeds you...
Now all they have to do is release it in the UK and Europe with an actual understanding of exchange rates.

Because no, $300 is not the same as £300, but I'll bet Nintendo will take a fucking long time figuring that out.

OT: Seems reasonable if the price is actually different numbers here, but I'm still not getting one at launch.

Pricing: Reasonable enough. Kinda dull in how predictable it is, really...

Launch: Farewell, all retail workers... been nice knowing you.

In all seriousness, it's REALLY odd to me seeing this coming out in NA first. Nintendo has been blatant in how they've been playing favorites with their Japanese audience this and every previous generation. This, more than anything else, tells me that maybe, just maybe, they've learned from their mistakes from the Wii.

The Premium Service intrigues me. I would like to know more. And I'm hoping Nintendo keeps updating the eShop. It had a rocky start, and there's a lot of improvements still to be made, but there are good games coming out for it, and I'm really hoping they keep improving how it links up with Club Nintendo.

Here's the better question: how many people actually use their 120GB hard drives on their 360's and PS3's? You would have to basically live exclusively on the XBLA in order to even dent it. Besides, as has been pointed out, the Wii U will support external memory units, so those few people who actually have a use for a large hard drive can just buy their own memory.

A lot of people filled their 120 GB hard drives, especially on the PS3 where most games were required to be installed onto it. I know I filled mine really quick. With the 360 it's a different story. You can choose to install the games onto the hard drive for shorter load times. That and the 360's XBLA marketplace does see a lot of traffic. Throw in people who actually load their own music and movies onto their consoles because its in a different room than their PCs and you have plenty of reason to use 120 GB. Point is for the same price Nintendo is giving you 8GB and then saying you gotta pony up more cash for an external hard drive.

Now a more realistic question is, who the hell is going to use an external hard drive JUST for their Wii U?

The ability to use a non propriety SDXC/HDD more than make up for it.
Also Bayonetta 2 Wii u exclusive
Yes, how nice of Nintendo to let us buy our own HDD for additional cost.

Also, reading the first page, it's like people are lost.

- The 8 GB and 32 GB is INTERNAL FLASH MEMORY, not a HDD. The Wii has 512MB of internal flash memory
- Yes, people have been talking about the WiiU for over a year, why are so many caught off guard by today's announcements?

That's pretty reasonable. I'm still doing what I always do though: Waiting a year or two to see if there's more than 5 games on a console that interest me. Nintendo hasn't failed on that yet, and they already have Rayman and Pikmin...but I'm biding my time. I still have plenty of stuff to play from 1-3 generations ago.

I'll be in my bunker. That day is not going to be pretty, especially considering that the official price is a pretty good deal as is.

I think the people predicting that this is going to have as huge a launch as the Wii did will be sorely mistaken. I don't get a feeling of anywhere near the kind of anticipation Nintendo's last console drummed up.

Then again these days I'm pretty 'meh' about everything Nintendo; I guess I got tired of all their promises that never delivered.

I remember back in 2006 and I was 12 waiting on pins and needles for Nintendo to tell us what the release date was, and then nearly dying of excitement by the time November 19 rolled around.

Now, I am going to need to see a launch line up before I start getting excited.
So far:

Assassin's Creed III
Darksiders II
Epic Mickey 2 (which is not a "launch title" but comes out Nov 18, so might as well be)
FIFA 13
Just Dance 4
Madden 13 (which might actually be good with the tablet...)
Mass Effect 3
New Super Mario Bros U (December 2)
Ninja Gaiden 3
Nintendo Land
Pikmin 3
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Nov 20)
The Wonderful 101/Project P-100
Tank! Tank! Tank!
Trine 2
ZombiU

There are more that just say "2012", but without an actual launch date I assume they'll be delayed until next year.

According to Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_U_games].

Basically... games I'd rather play on a PC, games I don't care about, and ZombiU (maybe; pending reviews).
Yea...kind of weak there...the only thing I know for sure I would buy is Pikmin 3, due to having already played or not being interested in the others, and right now I just don't have the money for a new console.

This is a non issue for me since the next Zelda wont even be available till 2014 and I have a feeling that a new solo mario game wont be available till late 2013 so I'm not even considering the WiiU till then. By that time there will be a price drop and a decent catalog I hope.
