If there was a bundle with a normal controller I would consider buying it. I'm not paying an extra $60 for a normal controller while getting stuck with a tablet that I don't want.

The Wii U will finally catch up to the current console generation this November.
Fixed that for you.

So I can hook up an external hard drive to this ***** for storage? Alright, the 8 GB might be worth it... the price tag is reasonable for a new console. But the line up of games needs to be more impressive.

Yes, there are several games. But most of them are games I can obtain in some form on other consoles. And what about when the new Xbox and Playstation come out? I'm hoping Nintendo's console will be able to hold it's own ground this time and not just be stuck in last Gen.

Nintendo always makes seven or eight excellent games that make their systems worth owning, but as of the Wii, I was pretty underwhelmed by all of their flagship titles. They're counting way too hard on people's nostalgia. They're really going to have to step it up this time around.

I'll say this though; I respect the hell out of Nintendo for always pioneering new ways for us to game.

I really feel like this is all sort of underwhelming what with the release of Steam Big Picture... the whole touch screen thing could just as easily be done with a mouse. I'll still probably get this; sometimes its better to play games on console, and that console may as well be the one that also has all the nintendo games I will inevitably buy.

All this recent news is really making me feel a 'Nintendo is trying REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY hard vibe'. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Slight disappointment to me. I don't see $300 justifying the price of that controller with what looks to be another gimmicky thing. Might turn out to be cool, but its not enough for me at least to switch from Xbox/Playstation.

Wow, it's not more than my rent at launch. That's new. Memory size would worry me more if I didn't already have an USB HDD dedicated to gaming. Think I'll wait for some prime cut titles to come out before I buy, like I did for the Wii, waiting until Super Mario Galaxy hit, with Brawl a few months after that, and a reduced price Twilight Princess to tide me over between them.
You are aware that the Wii launched for $50 less, right?
Fair enough, but the trend since then has been to increase prices. There are tablets that cost more than my rent, in fairness.

Not interested until I see how many games are going to let me use the normal controller. No more gimmicky bullshit for me.

So how long until Sony and Microsoft announce price drops?

The price is decent but 8-32 GB storage worries me. Why so small?
Here's the better question: how many people actually use their 120GB hard drives on their 360's and PS3's? You would have to basically live exclusively on the XBLA in order to even dent it. Besides, as has been pointed out, the Wii U will support external memory units, so those few people who actually have a use for a large hard drive can just buy their own memory.
Or install stuff so you're 360 doesn't sound like it is powered by the big bang every time it starts a game. I'm just adding another way to fill it.

OT: I like the addition of more memory through normal priced hdds that is amazing.

I still don't get why the Wii U is selling so early compared to the other consoles. Yes, the Wii has gone from 'underpowered' to 'fossilized' but I can't imagine its doing any worse in terms of sales than the other consoles. I guess Nintendo feels they have some compelling reason to come out a year or more ahead of the pack.

For anyone who has not already seen this in the topic: the WiiU is not a current-generation system. It does not compare. It's on the order of 2-4x as powerful. That's not anything special, seeing as it's not from six years ago, but it's the truth. And yes, it's reasonable to expect Microsoft and Sony's consoles to be more powerful still. But there's no need to make wildly inaccurate statements about a system already fraught with concerns like the Wii U.

The ability to use a non propriety SDXC/HDD more than make up for it.
Also Bayonetta 2 Wii u exclusive
Uh, Bayonetta 2 is still in borderline "cancelled" status, I don't think its exclusive anything at this point. There's been no details on it and we've been told we're getting Veiwtiful Joe 3 before Bayonetta 2.

My point is Bayonetta 2 may not be an exclusive when it actually gets released.
Actually I was talking about it because it was announced today Wii-u exclusive :p

Huh, looks cool. I doubt it will stay exclusive though. Exclusives don't sell consoles anymore.
Except that's the only reason to buy the PS3: Exclusive titles and exclusive content on bigger titles (FF13, LA Noire, etc). When everything is made for the same set of consoles, it has to run on all of them, meaning an insignificant difference, if any between version. On non-exclusives, the Xbox and PS3 are exactly the same, with Xbox having the better online service (Which it better if I'm paying for it)(PSN+ is another matter, though...)

Hell, the only reason I bought the Wii is Zelda, Mario, Fire Emblem, and the virtual console titles not available to anyone else. Only reason I bought the PS3 was inFamous and Uncharted (Last of us looks cool too). Only reason I bought the Xbox is Gears of War and Halo. All three systems, it was the exclusives that sold it, not anything else. If I can buy the same games on all three systems, I have no reason to buy more systems. I bought all of them for exclusives. And I know for a fact I'm not alone.
Yet console sales are down overall and the exclusives aren't the highest selling games for either of the except for 1st party Nintendo games. Exclusives selling big has stopped happening this gen. Even the new MGS is coming out on both consoles. Even Final Fantsay went multiplatform. And Bayonetta, while critically acclaimed was NOT a massive seller.
I would assume the way it works is while the developer could sell more by going cross platform for exclusive rights the console maker will give the developer a payoff. Since it looks like the game wasn't going to get published it was probably a cheap acquisition for Nintendo and more of a marketing decision than anything. Nintendo has something of an image problem with the 'hardcore' gamers, so this is a move to change the perception that Nintendo only does kiddy or Mario/Zelda exclusives.

Also not sure why people are so surprised about the hard drive space. Nintendo is still a video game console first and foremost, not a pc-lite like Sony and Microsoft are doing. For downloading files and installing games that's a tiny amount of space. For save files and downloading NES-N64 games it's plenty.

If you want to put things into perspective another way, thinking in terms of 'just a console' and not a 'PC' the standard PS1 memory card I believe was a mere 8 MB.

Maybe the WiiU will have WinRAR on it, but minus the annoying as shit "YOU MUST PAY FOR THIS SHIT" message that pops up every time you want to go deeper into the .rar file.
Just a side point: get 7-Zip - it does everything that winRAR can do, but it's freeware. No bugging messages, just pure, unadulterated unzipping. One of those 'hmm, now what do I need to put on this newly installed system' programs. Dooooo iiiiiiit.

Yeah...no.

This doesn't even remotely interest me, and even if it did, I'm not buying it just for Bayonetta 2, even though I loved the first game.

Not happening.

Only if you can get something contagious like pink eye and make them send you home. Otherwise you'll get fired.
