Most Nintendo console games suck, they just re do the old favourites like Mario etc everything else is half arsed. As soon as they dump consoles and stick to making games, they will do so much better.

Personally I'm not too shocked by anything announced. Everything is pretty average. What is interesting is how well nintendo is playing this from a marketing standpoint.

By releasing the game first while there is already buzz of other consoles on the horizon will likely see a large portion of consumers jumping to Nintendo's flag, leading to Nintendo getting a nice amount of the market already.

Second is a direct observation of the hardrive. By keeping it shitty and small, the price of the WiiU can be much cheaper. If you consider that the Wii is the most family friendly console out there right now, you will probably see some parents buying the new Wii U, due to both its family friendliness and its lower price point. Once a family buys the console they're essentially yours. I will bet that most families would rather pay more in incremental upgrades if they already have the WiiU than to buy a new better console.

Wow, it's not more than my rent at launch. That's new. Memory size would worry me more if I didn't already have an USB HDD dedicated to gaming. Think I'll wait for some prime cut titles to come out before I buy, like I did for the Wii, waiting until Super Mario Galaxy hit, with Brawl a few months after that, and a reduced price Twilight Princess to tide me over between them.

I remember back in 2006 and I was 12 waiting on pins and needles for Nintendo to tell us what the release date was, and then nearly dying of excitement by the time November 19 rolled around.

Now, I am going to need to see a launch line up before I start getting excited.
So far:

Assassin's Creed III
Darksiders II
Epic Mickey 2 (which is not a "launch title" but comes out Nov 18, so might as well be)
FIFA 13
Just Dance 4
Madden 13 (which might actually be good with the tablet...)
Mass Effect 3
New Super Mario Bros U (December 2)
Ninja Gaiden 3
Nintendo Land
Pikmin 3
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Nov 20)
The Wonderful 101/Project P-100
Tank! Tank! Tank!
Trine 2
ZombiU

There are more that just say "2012", but without an actual launch date I assume they'll be delayed until next year.

According to Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_U_games].

Basically... games I'd rather play on a PC, games I don't care about, and ZombiU (maybe; pending reviews).
Yea...kind of weak there...the only thing I know for sure I would buy is Pikmin 3, due to having already played or not being interested in the others, and right now I just don't have the money for a new console.
More have since been announced [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119581-Over-50-Games-Announced-for-Wii-U-Launch-Window].

Oh, wow! A video game system with EIGHT gigs of memory? Did I time-travel to 2001? The original XBox had an 8 GB hard drive. Most of today's cell phones have a standard 16GB capacity. Good job keeping up with technology Nintendo
To be fair, it's still leaps and bounds above the Wii.

So how long until Sony and Microsoft announce price drops?

The price is decent but 8-32 GB storage worries me. Why so small?
Hard drive memory prices became unstable the last few years and demand for fast store is higher than for quantity. Would you really want a 320 GB 5400 RPM HDD like most PS3s or 360s or would you want a 8 Gig Solid State or better? Yea I'd want a 320 GB SSD drive but not for 300 - 1k a piece.

You are aware that the Wii launched for $50 less, right?

I'm just glad that there is a bundle that includes NintendoLand. I'm getting the $350 one.
Can't wait to explore this new console.

Maybe Nintendo has figuered out how to store more on less space.
Compression? Maybe the WiiU will have WinRAR on it, but minus the annoying as shit "YOU MUST PAY FOR THIS SHIT" message that pops up every time you want to go deeper into the .rar file.

Captcha: mum's the word.

Hm...

Wow!, 8 GB of memory, that's a lot! Now, how much storage does it have? I assume 500 GB at this point. Yeah!, one TB is maybe too much yet.

1GB of RAM for games and 1 GB of RAM for the OS?
Why would the OS need 50% of the available RAM?

That does not sound very promising.
But then again why should I care... I won't even buy it.

The 8GB is the storage, if you want more storage you need to buy your own external HDD.

400% more memory at only 33% more price? We'd be fools NOT to buy!
um...
there's this thing called math, or at least do me a favor, and pick up your cell phone, and on your calculator type 50/300 then talk

OT: Nintendo don't go to the dark side of Microsoft, Sony, and Apple. Hardware manufacturers have realized for decades that standardization of components keeps costs down, and offering one option keeps costs even lower by lowering overhead of the entire production process. this, and profit mongering is what has kept Apple the leader in stupid prices since the IPod mini came out, and to a greater extent the IBook

8GB is the STORAGE. However, you can attach ANY external hard drive to it.:

1 GB of RAM hell even 1 Gb (yes there is a difference, and its why your HDD/SSD are never the actual size they claim don't know it look it up) of RAM is a dream in development on a console general rule of thumb is to keep your footprint down to maybe 128MB whenever possible (this is why Bethesda Games get really laggy when you have a lot of stuff.

when you actually consider everything that even a current gen console does look at the Xbox 360 the dashboard is constantly sitting in memory so that you can call it by pressing the XBox-button (sometimes referred to as the god button in XBox API land), and the XBox 360 even dedicates half of its real RAM to graphics along with a complete dual core processor, and in order to even get some of these facts you either have had to try, and develop for the 360, or do real in depth reading in the literature for the APIs.

At least Nintendo is actually stating that they are devoting 1 GB to system which even in terms of PC is just a little bit higher then normal, but then again looking at what the Wii-U "dashboard" experience is (web search while in game, receive updates, and info from friends, and more) giving 1GB to that, and the general system stuff is just breathing room to prevent lags, and freezes

I own a wii, and with the exception of the Resident Evil games I have on it, Last Story and Xenoblades, it never gets touched. Bought the 3DS when it was first released and since then the price has gone down and it even now has that little joystick thing. Again, there are few titles for it I enjoy. I will wait until the price goes down on the WiiU and for some good games before I even think about making a purchase (Bayonetta 2, you will have to wait)

Not excited for this in the slightest. It's barely better than current consoles (if at all), more expensive, it will be severely outdated by the PS4 and 720, and its launch lineup consists mostly of games that you could have bought by now on your current system if you wanted them.

No sale.

Those aren't even the full system specs I'm guessing but I can already see that this is not a system worth $300. They'll either have to drop the price or release one with better specs. I mean ffs 2gb of ram? Darksiders 2 has a minimum requirement of 2gb and they're only alotting 1gb to processing games? Dude this piece of crap is going to choke on that game alone.
You've completely misread and fucked up the numbers.

Darksiders II does not require 2GB of ram to play. If that were the case, neither the 360 or the PS3 would be able to play it. The 360 only has 512mb of ram, the PS3 256mb. You're thinking about hard-drives space for install data, something that the Wii U will have plenty of, by virtue of having as much extra hard-drive space as you're willing to plug into the console.

Come on guys, at least try to read the information given.
No, I wasn't thinking about hard drive space. Though as I've been made aware of by an early poster I apparently don't fully understand how consoles work. I don't see how a pc can require 2gb of ram to run it but a console can get away with 512mb without choking to death on it.

Regardless the system still doesn't seem to be worth the price tag, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at all interested in it.
