SMT: Good times. Now to wait for the West to whine when it's not just another edgelord Nocturne

Arms: Admittedly this does sound like good fun
Well, given that opening was the exact same opening as Nocturne...I'm actually betting on a Nocturne remake.

And ARMS does seem to be the one to look for. It does share a lot of similarity to Splatoon (which makes sense since this is another Garage project).

it has a good launch line up
Worth noting that so far the launch lineup has 2 games confirmed. Zelda and 1,2 Switch. That's it. Everything else is post-launch unless something changes.
Uh, no, there's at least Super Bomberman R, some ports (Puyo Puyo Tetris), and some other stuff I'm not remembering. I mean, it looks like every launch ever with one killer app but there aren't just two games being released at launch.

EDIT: Here is the current Switch Launch Line-up

Zelda: BotW (+Special/Master editions) $59.99/$99.99/$129.99
1, 2, Switch $49.99
I Am Setsuna
Has Been Heroes
Just Dance 2017
Snipperclips - Cut it out, together! $19.99
Super Bomberman R

Apparently more new games are being shown on the Treehouse though.

Push The Button costs 50 bucks???
See, THAT game I think is their "tech demo hidden as a full game" game. And it's apparently more than "push the button" though honestly...

(She's milking a cow. No, seriously)

I don't see this one catching on.

More doesnt mean good when most of the games, yes most, are shitty mobile ports, RPG maker games, or just plain ol shovelware. Im waiting for the Impossible Quiz to show up for 4.99.

And people need to stop trashing on Nintendo and Consoles when they never cared about either anyways, but people still do it.
Oh definitely not, but it doesn't make it a worse service either, noone's forcing you to buy those shitty games. Their existence has no affect on you, and atleast steam has user reviews on every game page that's more effective than a 5-star system.

I used to play pretty much exclusively on consoles until 2011 when I got my first gaming PC, I own a PS4 and I used to own a XB1 as well. So yeah, I do care about consoles but Nintendo/MS/Sony makes it harder and harder to do so.

Similar, but not exact. Plus Nocturne is an odd duck in the franchise anyway and I doubt it'll be seen again. Plus Atlus doesn't really do remakes of the SMT franchise save for the odd port.

"So guys, the internet is really excited for our new console. What can we do about it?"

"Charge more for the console than current competitors with better hardware and larger libraries, price the controllers higher than any reasonable person would ever believe, and start charging for online play for a machine that is more than likely going to be a secondary console."

"Perfect!"

They should have stripped the Joycon controllers of that motion/camera bollocks and made it ?150-199.

I honestly cant believe how bad this is, I mean this Xbox one first reveal bad!! (TV TV TV bad)

Sony and Microsoft must be laughing all the way to the bank.

To be honest, a lot of the games they teased are pretty damned nice.

A Fire Emblem musou, a new SMT game, a new No More Heroes, the return of Bomberman, the new 3D Mario... they're all fantastic, but sadly they won't really attract more casual-focused consumers.

Yeah, I'd only consider buying the switch at this point if it was 100 bucks and came with Zelda and a pro controller bundled in. And even then that would be charity on my part. I'm so sick and tired of Nintendo overcharging for everything.

I think we both know what she's doing. Leisure Suit Larry for the Switch!

And honestly, who gets nintendo stuff if they aren't interested in the Marios, Zeldas, and such. I am considering getting a Switch just for BoTW. It looks amazing.
It isn't dead on arrival, come on now.

Paid online.

I think I'm done here.
it's ok when Sony and Microsoft do it.
No, it's not ok either.
What about Youtube and every TV channel ever? Most things are going subscription based. Atleast with gaming consoles, it tends to be worth it. I bet Nintendo Switch will have far improved online. Who knows, maybe we can actually start communicating with other people.
What about Steam? It's still a way better deal than any of the consoles online services now. I don't BET, I make sure the price is worth it before paying; and frankly neither PS+ or XB Live are.
And Steam is full of porn games, trash games, and half the games dont work on whatever OS you use. Plus PC gaming is expensive if you want a good computer. PC gaming's pros are always negated by the expensive con.
*rolls eyes*

Oh no, steam has more games, what a shitty service. Steam is as good, if not better than PSN/XBL and it's free. You don't need a expensive PC to use it either.

People need to stop defending MS/Sony for charging money to play online for literally no reason.
More doesnt mean good when most of the games, yes most, are shitty mobile ports, RPG maker games, or just plain ol shovelware. Im waiting for the Impossible Quiz to show up for 4.99.
You're acting as if the existence of shit games somehow negates the good games that are on Steam. There might be a lot of trash but PC still has a much larger library of good games than any of the current gen consoles.

I really can't get behind the paid online. I've never paid for it before, since I've mainly played PC and Nintendo consoles, so it's already a pretty significant mental block for me.

What am I getting out of it now that I have to pay for it?

Free S/NES game for a month?
If it was worth a cost I would have just bought it on one of the billion consoles the same S/NES games are available on. If I didn't want to buy it outright, it's certainly not going to be worth a sub to play it for a month.
Voice chat?
Easy enough to set something up external with friends, and this service apparently uses your phone anyway? I'm not interested in voice chat with randoms.
Stable online?
Maybe. I guess that's why it starts free. But I'm hardly going to pick up a game that requires online to try out their online knowing if I find it's still crap, that game is useless.

It seems a really weird thing to push on a portable console hybrid too. The 3 hours battery life would be decimated by online play, and it's not like you'd really be able to play online out of the house (or do they expect you to get a stable experience using wifi/cell hotspots?). Online services on the switch is less useful than on the platforms where it was free...

some NES and SNES games are getting newly added online multiplayer modes now too.

What's Sony laughing for? last i checked the PS4 has been out since 2013 and still only has bloodborne.

Switch is getting Zelda BOTW and Bomberman R on launch day so that already beats the PS4 library.

The PS4 library is laughable indeed but there's also Uncharted 4, Until Dawn, Killzone Shadowfall, Infamous Second Son, The Last Guardian....And upcoming ones like Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us 2, God of War 4, New Spider-Man, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human.

If all these games are actually any good is another thing.

The Switch is finally dumping proprietary charging cables, meaning those portable batteries everyone bought for Pokemon Go or their smartphones can extend the battery life of the screen, and the Switch is finally going region free. So those folks who get their underwear in a twist about localizations can just import.
This is the thing that made my ears perk up the most.

New xenoblade (comically oversized animu eyes aside), early splatoon and new zelda are all well and good, but the fact that we can actually use those portable battery type things that we use for our phones already to extend the lifespan of the portable mode is a godsend.

I was actually thinking about this when they announced the switch and I was thinking "I hope we can plug some kind of battery into it to keep it charged while on the go", and lo and behold, it's done in the best way possible. No proprietary BS cable, just "Hey, it charges via a USB type thingy".

This, combined with the small handful of interesting stuff coming out for it has my interest piqued. Assuming I finish University this year and land a job in a reasonable time frame, I might just pick this up after skipping the WiiU.

So far the only thing that makes me wrinkle my brow is the paid online. If they had the entire Virtual Console open for people who subscribe or something, then yeah, that'd be neat, but if it's just to play games online, I might probably pass on that.

It's also going to have Nioh, Persona 5, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age, and Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom. Not bad, for both released and upcoming games. I know Persona 5 will also be out on PS3, but eh.
