My school had a paper... that our principal edited with a black marker whenever anything not related to school events or someone making her look good came through. She also cut my comics whenever I decided to use slapstick comedy, and gave me detention and cut me from the staff when I tried to use the "Tom and Jerry is more violent!" argument.
As for editorials that didn't get published, we had a rule. Cite sources, or it get cut early. Either be on site investigating, or cite a source, or it didn't happen. Rule worked fairly well, even opinion pieces had to cite sources if they called up a generalization or statistic.
Surprisingly I went to a school in Oklahoma, the slightly-more-sane state.
As for the abortion thing... its the woman's choice. Only morally sound argument. It is her child, she has to deal with the stress of carrying it to term and (if we are dealing with increasingly outdated gender roles that are often reversed) will wind up taking care of it. So I post it as her choice entirely. The potential loss of another human life is negligible, and we are facing a overpopulation issue down the line anyway.
As for legitimate points of view for going against it, since I used to debate a lot and I love playing devil's advocate, would be that we removed a person from existing at all. If you believe in souls, then there is the problem of if that embryo has a soul, and if you just killed its anchor-point. Really besides that, there doesn't seem to be a justifiable reason for this.
As for Birth Control... no arguments at all there. I can't even think of a religious one off the top of my head. No embryo, no life, no soul. Nothing. Its just... nothing. It has so many benefits, including checking human population growth, and it also deals with hormone issues in women.
Not that I will ever have to deal with abortion in my own personal life unless the unthinkable happens (The R Word to someone I care about, yes I call it the R word to ward of moderators). Birth Control on the other hand... kinda essential. I have a few issues that might have genetic factors (I'm on the Autistic Spectrum) so... procreation is a bit hard to get behind. I had enough trouble with it as a kid, and risking creating someone with the same issues is... hard to consider.
Oh, and now i have to go find a Vampire. Easy way to stop breathing and still be able to complain... of course i still have to inhale air to talk... oh bother.
