I WARNED YOU PEOPLE! MOdern Warfare 2 would put it's bloated carcasse against LAN and dedicated servers, making everyone drop it. :/

Isn't the games industry great?
OT: If they have a reason for it, then great. Truthfully I'm not a huge fan of ded. servers and LAN, being brought up on console multiplayer, Blizzard, and MMOs. And seeing how TF2 and CSS work, where you can't easily find a game, I think I prefer the developers running servers that make finding a game easy. However, I don't see why you can't have both.
"Piracy as protest" is nothing more than an attempt to validate theft. If you're so concerned about the game's features list, just don't buy it.The_root_of_all_evil said:And here's another game that says "Yes please" to piracy.
It's not about that. It's about the fact that matchmaking is becoming a common thing in PC gaming and that's disturbing.scotth266 said:I don't see why people are bitching about lack of dedis in AN RTS, a genre which does not need them.
Lack of LAN I can't understand (and I fervently support bitching about it), but people whining about the lack of dedis are probably still butt-hurt over the concept thanks to COD:MW2. This is not the same game, there is no need to complain about it here other than sheer stubbornness.
Matchmaking has always BEEN a common thing in PC gaming. Hells alive, it's been around since DIABLO. This is not a new concept we're talking about.ImprovizoR said:It's not about that. I'm not buying it or pirating it. But if the game is easier to play with the pirated copy, people will "buy" that instead.scotth266 said:"Piracy as protest" is nothing more than an attempt to validate theft. Finding them without mods...what? The point of dedicated servers is that you can find exactly what you want. You want a specific map, search just for that. Don't want to go to a map again, then just don't bloody search for it. If you find a server that you really like, one with a good map rotation or good player base or the like, then you can favorite/bookmark/whatever you want to call it it and be able to play there again...forever. You don't have to play with potential idiots because the matchmaking system paired you with them. There's no reason to have matchmaking and no dedicated servers. Just wish publishers would get that through their opaque heads.oppp7 said:I'm talking about finding them without mods, or it being the same damn map over and over.teh_gunslinger said:Am I understanding you correctly? You say it's hard to find games of TF2 and CSS? Really?
As I'm writing this there are 45000 people playing CSS, 41000 playing CS 1.6 and about 17000 playing TF2. I really think finding a server poses no problem.
Truthfully though, I haven't done a huge amount of searching on CSS, but whenever I do it's like hundreds of servers with 1 person in each.
But I don't know the map names.Earthbound said:Finding them without mods...what? The point of dedicated servers is that you can find exactly what you want. I agree with you about the LAN part. It seems to be a pointless ommission. Oh well, screws them!Kalezian said:This, Diablo II doesn't use a dedicated server system, and yet it works perfectly to a degree.....until I jump in with my griefmancer [bone walls FTW].Zer_ said:Matchmaking works for an RTS to a degree. Blizzard's age old battle.net doesn't even use dedicated servers. You may still have a game list to choose off of, but they won't be dedicated servers, they`ll be P2P games I believe.Foggy_Fishburne said:Oh wow... Talk about developers keep slapping us in the face with their tiny cocks. What's with this new trend? This notion that matchmaking etc is a good feature? It sucks ffs! :S Dedicated and lan support works absolutely perfect. Why try to fix something that isn't broken :S I just don't get it...
Anyways, don't jump the gun.
but really though, I could see why to take LAN out of every other type of PC game, but a RTS? I really cant imagine it.
no seriously, I can't, even back to the days of Empire Earth me and my friends would set up LAN parties for our games.

Play with people you know huddled around a television with splitscreen is amazing.
Playing with people you know lights off in a basement till 2am on a LAN is equally amazing.
Why do companies all of a sudden hate playing games IRL?
um........ forgetting your sitting right across the guy your spawncamping isnt really fun, namely when the empty mountain dew bottles start flying.
though I agree about PC's losing at least the LAN part, with consoles it goes back to the old days of yelling 'quit looking at my screen you noob!', hence LAN seems to be the emerging alternative for splitscreen on consoles.
just a thought, since consoles are losing split-screen and gaining LAN abilities, how long until we have a split screen game like CS:S on the PC?
