"No! Don't get the flag!" But, that's the objective, "NOOOOO!"

Um, what?
Wait, WHAT?
Even the Wii version doesn't have that problem. It's usually filled with real names (such as mine), clan names, or "your mom"/"yourself" ("You killed yourself", hahaha, I't wasn't funny the first time.)
I weep for humanity.

your playing MW2, what do you expect?
This happens in about any game with achievements or the like, although I haven't noticed it in BC2 yet...
That's because DICE was smart enough to not include any specific multiplayer achievements.
Only things like "blow up 1000 walls" and "kill 5 people with every pistol" and a few more for ranking up and getting ribbons.

Although lots of people seem to like sniping on offense on Rush.

You can't win the game if you sit on your asses sniping all the time
Same thing happens in MAG a lot. Though, for some reason, it never seems to happen in whatever squad I'm playing with. I guess I just somehow manage to either get my team to actually be offensive with either rousing words or actions, or I'm just extremely lucky in that game. It is hilarious when the entire other team decides to snipe all day, and our side just goes up to their spawn and camps them. Being an ass, yes, but it's partly their fault for not pushing on offense in the first place.

MW2, on the other hand... ironically, I have a story that speaks of the opposite. Search and Destroy on offense, myself and one other player on my team left, one guy left on their team. We're both about to head to the plant point (I forget which letter, and what the map name was; it's the one on the skyscraper roof with construction stuff to the sides), and then I... somehow realized something was wrong. I yell into the mic to tell him to not go plant the bomb. Before I can pull an Admiral Ackbar, he walks in, blows up from a claymore. I look around for the other guy, can't find him, clock runs down, I grab bomb and try to plant. He swoops down from above and knifes me.

Then in the post-game, I get called the idiot-fag. Because, you know, I'm such a retard for seeing such an obvious trap and trying to be cautious about it. ~~;

The worst I see in regards to objective types in Halo is someone screwing around and teabagging with the flag rather than capping it, or the entire team running ahead with no one defending. No crap about "Don't finish the game because I want my KDR higher!" How did this game suddenly get called inferior multiplayer-wise to Call of Duty again?

PROBABLY NOT THE SAME THING HERE, but why do people in TF2 Arena servers prefer to wipe out the entire team rather than capping the point? (Bleh, sucky grammar sucks.) It'd make the most sense to get more people to play faster, rather than waiting for two spies to finally find each other and then chase each other down with knives, cloaks, and no guns.
I geuss it's always seen as sort of an honour system, that it's more fair to actually wipe out each other, rather then just cap.

Besideds, Arena's ment for midless killing.

That, and there's something satisfying about takeing out those last two well intrenched engineers.

Oh yeah? Well let me kill 25 people and well talk about that...wait, I kill myself too...so there really is no winner. It's a tie. Both teams are cooked and the ground is going tick tick ticky and the reinforcement need to run their ass out of there

You must all listen to SoundWave! (I had to do that. SoundWave is my favorite Transformer! lol)

OT: I actually enjoyed CoD: World at War's online for a time, but then MW2 was released, so all of my online friends had to jump on the bandwagon and switch games. Worst mistake ever. The ONLY thing I can say MW2 is good for is that you can customize your offline load-outs during local split-screen games. I'll take S.S. over online any day.

Now if more games had split-screen-online instead of one or the other, that would certainly be appreciated...

This is even more ridiculous. I like the rank idea and whatnot, getting rewards and stuffs. However, it should never come before gameplay itself, if it does then you be teh n00b. But who cares if the other teams get points? Do you mean ranking points, or do these affect that game?
The points contributed directly to the end of the match. If neither team destoryed the other's base, then whoever had the most points at the end of the round won. It was pretty straightforward, but people twisted it to mean, "Let all of our buildings die so we can have a chance to win!" The logic behind that (or lack thereof) baffles me to this day.

EDIT:

In case you hae never seen the gameplay.

I have not played Modern Warfare 2, so I asked a friend what the multiplayer was like.

He listed off the heartbeat sensor, dual wielding shotguns, UAVs that paint everyone regardless of line of sight (same with manned choppers apparently), omniscient unmanned choppers and VTOL jets that kill everyone, etc, etc.

I jokingly said: "God, all they need is a suitcase nuke or something to round out the unbalanced ridiculousness."

My friend: "Yeah... there is, actually. For 25 kills."

I was dumbfounded.

I haven't played this game, so my perspective probably isn't the best, but from what I've head, multiplayer for MW2 sounds frustrating and absurd. Feel free to correct me if I'm off-base.

EDIT: As I said, I haven't played it, but I agree with you. The idea of a game-ending nuke is ridiculous. The team should win on its own merits and by the rules of the match. Every game has players that excel to a ludicrous degree, but for that one person to be able to hit a magic "kill everyone" button, well, it's just not right. Even though they earned their 25 kill streak. Give them something else! I like coming back from a near defeat and taking the victory; it's one of the best feelings in competitive multiplayer... don't take that away!

Man, I'm sorry for that spiel. It just seems like all the kill streak perks are there to punish the players. And then there's getting killed by someone who has a death perk. A death perk? We're rewarding deaths now? And like before, correct me if I'm wrong about anything.

I have a feeling I might catch some flak for this.

I see now. Yeah, still makes very little sense. More sense than I originally thought, but still quite the retarded school of thought.

The deathstreaks are supposed to just help you out when you're getting owned. But I don't feel they are necessary. Maybe just copycat. That one is actually cool. But martyrdom is as retarded as before, painkiller is so OP and I don't even remember the other one so that shows you how much I care for them, lol.

This happens in Halo all the time. It's sucks because Objective game types are my favorite game types in online multiplayer. They require the most teamwork and tactical thinking, but no one want's to do those things. All they want to do is run-and-gun, and when they do that they lose, so they stop playing objective playlists all-together.

So now, in my favorite playlist in Halo, Squad Battle, it takes forever to find a match because no one wants to play objective gametypes.

Oh gawd, this happens a lot every time Halo 3 gets a new map pack. Everyone goes "fuck it" to playing the game, and just team kills to get specific weapons so they can get their goddamn achievements. Shit sucks.

I recall a game of C&C4 where two players spent the whole match collecting Tiberium and using crates to upgrade mastodons and archangels. When they finally had their unstoppable force put together they start spamming the chat with taunts about how awesome they were and how screwed the Nod players were.

Never mind thanks to their 20 minutes of avoiding fights Nod had four of the five control points. About two minutes after their taunting we lost the game.

Morons.

I love being the only one who bothers to run the flag in FPS games on consoles. People are such noobs I can just run back and forth until I win the game but nobody else seems to bother actually trying to get the flag.

And what is wrong with that? I find it much more satisfying when I completely dominate in an objective match. I'm not going to not score just so my teammates can pad their stats.

P.S. Love the avatar.

I'm glad someone agrees with me. I got banned from quite a few decent servers for simply repairing buildings. Then again, if they banned me, they must not have been all that good.

The formula is simple. If you don't have advanced weapons or vehicle - you get steamrolled.

This is why I hate multiplayer achievements. I don't want myself or other people to be influenced to play a game a certain way, just give us an objective and let us go.

You're talking about Modern Warfare 2. You don't get people who play for fun or for competition, you get attention whores who just want ranks and titles.
This just about sums it up. Thank god for TF2 and players who go after the objective. Ranks are okay, but titles just mess everything up.

It's happened to me a couple times, I understand its reasoning. However, they stop bitching once I save the day.
