"No! Don't get the flag!" But, that's the objective, "NOOOOO!"

Not really a surprise, every objective-based game will somehow be turned in a TDM.

TF2 has some rare servers where nobody bothers with the objective. Call of Duty(all games) is rare to have a proper gametype. CSS has hundreds of (team)deathmatch mod servers.

I think it's the announcer in TF2 that somehow manages to get players to work together and try to win the objective.

Sadly this is what happens when kids who are too young get to play. My friend was playing the other day and the host (who sounded about 10) kept ending the match prematurely until he got the exact map he wanted. It was ridiculous.

In the Uncharted 2 Beta, I was playing that game's version of CTF (Plunder, I think it's called). Despite barely making it across the map in the only way that I could see possible (a mad dash), my team decided that I didn't deserve the capture, and so blocked the door to the cap point... eventually, the dumbass in my way got sniped and I got in for the flag capture. I was pretty pissed at him and left the game at the nearest possible opportunity instead of facing players like that.

your playing MW2, what do you expect?
This happens in about any game with achievements or the like, although I haven't noticed it in BC2 yet...
Thats because DICE was smart enough to not include any specific multiplayer achievements.
Only things like "blow up 1000 walls" and "kill 5 people with every pistol" and a few more for ranking up and getting ribbons.

Although lots of people seem to like sniping on offence on Rush.

You can't win the game if you sit on your asses sniping all the time
This doesn't worry me so much, it just means more points for me when I plant and explode the MCOM stations.

What shits me are when I'm defending on Rush and every single one of my teammates go to camp the attacking teams spawn point. That is not defending, that is being an ass, and when someone slips past, and they will, none of them are in any position to help defuse the damned thing./rant
Yeah, thats a ***** to deal with as well.
On some maps its better than others though.
Of course, the fact that I cant even connect to EA Online at the moment is far more annoying than people who care more about their scores than playing the game.

You'll get this result with just about any multiplayer game you play. In the case of MW2 and killstreaks, it's become rampant with people using objective games to simply increase the amount of time they have to rack up a few more kills.

I'll admit I play Ground War in MW2 because of the 50% increase in players to kill and when Domination is chosen it's nice to know I have a decent amount of extra time to kill people. But at least I go for the objectives while slaughtering everyone on the opposing team. I love killing people, but I make a team effort while doing so. Also Domination is a great objective game because once all three flags have been capped at least once the game has a definite end; no pre-pubescent children screaming to not end the game.

Seriously that game is awesome and stuff like that happening is rare in it.

I hate it when people do that and my brother is the same way, he even sent a message to someone who constantly planted the bomb and called him a noob for doing so.

I like the way Halo does it. No Grinding ranks through kills and completing objectives, but through winning matches.

For some reason this reminds me of when I used to play C&C Renegade online.

I remember teammates cussing at me for repairing buildings. They reasoned that since the other team got points for every shot that hit a building, it was better to let the building be destroyed than to grant the other team more points by prolonging the life of said building.

Here's the problem with that:

If the barracks were destroyed, you could no longer purchase specialized infantry. If the war factory was destroyed, you could no longer purchase tanks, and if the refinery was destroyed, your whole team would lose a valuable source of income. In a sense, my teammates would rather lose the benefits of a valuable building (losing tanks, money, and infantry) than let the enemy get a few thousand points by hitting a building with a few rockets. Without being able to attack with equal force in that game, you were doomed to lose anyhow, so why sacrifice something so important and ensure a loss? It has always baffled me.

I have never experienced the stupidity described in other games, but then again, I don't play much MP anymore due to my tastes shifting from arcady FPS games to more realistic ones that have more mature communities.

I hate when people do that to me

playing Domination on Terminal
I was playing as the Russians so I went to capture C. I hear "No you Idiot! dont do that!" as some one runs up to me
I ask "What are you talking about?" "Let them have C!" I heard in reply. I asked him (at least I think it was a him) why and all I get is "Dont be a retard you fucking idiot" and he ran off
confused I just took C anyway
Later I got a message that said something like "your an retarded idiot why did you capture C? you must be the dumbest fuckhead on the planet!"
I still dont get why he was mad, We won the match.

Edit: This was at the very beginning of the match

I mostly play Domination because of that.

For some reason, whenever I play Domination, everyone will try to get the flags instead of turning it into a TDM, but then I play CTF or Demolition, and it's just like how I've described it. It just makes no damn sense at all!

Little idiots probably would've lost you the game trying to get a nuke, pay them no mind.
To add on to the irony, I got the most kills, highest score, and came the closest to getting a nuke (if I even had it on) than anyone else. The little jack asses were speechless after that until the trash talking resumed...

That's why I don't have a mic at all. It can go straight to hell.

Ive always preferred Halo multiplayer over CODs. But my Halo broke so I only had that...

I still have a good time and it's even funner when I show the little bastards that im better than them, even though they are a higher rank or prestige than me.

Happened to me playing Halo with my roommates and their friends a few rooms down in college. CTF in Blood Gulch. Down to 1 flag left, and everybody started rushing the middle of the field and killing each other. I went around the edge of the map, got the flag and brought it back without anyone noticing. Note that I was by far the worst player among them and had been pretty much the target for the other team the entire time. So when they all decided to go kill each other, they pretty much just decided to ignore me. I never got any warning to not go after the flag. I brought it back and won the game to a chorus of "WTF JUST HAPPENED? NOOOOO!!!" from everyone and I was then dishonorably discharged from the game. Ah, well. I had a paper to write that night too, if I recall.

And this is why achievements and ranks are a bad idea.

OT: You get a lot of crap like that in WoW with people trying to do achievements (ie doing a boss event incorrectly for the sake of arbitrary points) when all you want to do is kill the guy, loot and move on.
This in general. I've never quite understood the idea of achievements, as they don't add anything concrete to the game other than ideas for challenging (and mostly arbitrarily stupid and difficult) methods of replaying.

I'm so glad that TF2 doesn't unlock weapons upon unlocking achievements now - the medic update was horrible. Everyone played medic and everyone yelled at you to change to a class to get their little achievement.

I really do hate achievement whores =.=

Search and Destroy is the best if you want more of a tactical gametype, Hardcore especially. You can win by kills or by objective so even if you are stuck with people who go only for kills you will still have a good team. Planting/defusing is worth 1000 points so people tend to play the gametype the way it is supposed to be played.

Yeah once in Combat Arms, I was about to capture the flag right? This guy screams DONT DO IT! because he wants to gain some extra kills, so he shoots me.

In Battlefield:Bad Company, this guy kept on killing me because I kept on arming the charges. He wanted more kills...

Just for the kills. Really?

No it's never happened because I do it anyway. It's a team game, there's an objective, and it's not for some 12 year old to get a freaking nuke. NEVER stop for this person.
