It's because this is a new territory of society. It took women thousands of years to be accepted in regular society. It certainly won't take that long for women to be accepted in gaming communities, but it will take some time before women are fully accepted without any reticule at all. At least, that's my philosophy. I don't personally discriminate against female gamers, I'm certainly surprised to see them, but that makes me happy.

I expect its because hes scared to lose to a girl :p.

But as others have said, If you were male you just would have been called "fag" or "gay" and kicked anyway.

Either that or they still think girls are "gross" "ewwwww", You know, When people were kids they allways said they would never like or kiss girls its weird to etc, I guess they never grew out of it, Or are still at the ages where its like that.

People online just find something to offend you, "OMG YOU HAVE BLACK HAIR, YOU MUST CHEAT." Or "OMG UR A GIRL, OMG I CAN HAS UR MSN?!?", People just find whatever they can to insult you, I've been insulted because i had a deep voice before, Or because i played a certain class, People just try to find shit to insult you with is what i'm getting at.

I'm sorry to say it, but your first mistake was probably playing Soul Caliber 4 online. Can't say I blame you though. I did it too once. And only once because I did not enjoy a single minute of my xbox live experience of that game. Pretty much every person I played against spammed the same two or three moves over and over again and then shit talked me the whole time and then kicked me for good measure.

The moral of the story is if you enjoy Soul Caliber 4, I would advise playing it offline with some friends rather than with a bunch of assholes online.

I saw this happen to a girl in Killzone (on PS2) the one time I got online.

I did ok, but not great, she was slaughtering everyone. Had a really obvious girly name, and guys just gave her hell after the match.

I reported everyone in the game but her, and didn't try playing it online again.

Wasn't until I got Resistance on my PS3 that I tried online FPS gaming again after that.

PC gamers are often a little better, and if you find a good group to stick with, you can get away with it.

My best friend's a girl gamer, and the games she plays, she's usually better at than me. She's a button masher in fighting games though.
My depiction of the average PC gamer online:
