About 60 percent of guys online are whiny brats who can't comprehend that girls are also human beings and have the ability to play games just as well as they do. If you think Soul Calibur is bad, I have a friend who is a girl who kicks ass at MW2 and you should see the revolting abuse she gets from guys on that game, it's actually pretty sickening.

Yea, though its funny how gaming is still sort of patriarchal, I just find it stupid. I have yet to see a girl that plays mw2. I have only seen them play the halo games (they seem to love the pistols).

IMO, I dont see anything wrong with anybody that can game, only type of gamers I hate are the ones that suck and still give others crap about how they play.

Unfortunately, being anything other than a white guy in internet games will result in stupid comments from brats, just from the way the person is different (gender/ethnicity). But we are still harassed by people calling us gay (which isn't derogatory to me, so that's pointless) and other stupid things.

The solution, I think, is to use private servers with mature admins, which you can keep going back to. This isn't an option in all games, so maybe we'll have to live with it.

I don't play that much online, but the times I do, I rarely get the smack-talk. I'm mostly playing Mount&Blade - Warband, and it's pretty good there, but I can only speak for EU servers.

You should just ignore them, they are abusing their internet anonymity and using your gender as one of the things they can give you a not at all valid insult with. Incidentally, I am a part of your problem. I'm a heterosexual male, but roughly half of my characters in on-line games are female, and for pretty much the same reasons I tend to have characters of every race and class offered. However, people like me do tend to create a lot of the resistance to the concept of actual women playing games on-line, and for that my apologies.

Surveys have found a rather large percentage of online players are female. They just avoid saying so for fear of what happened to you.

But that's such an oxymoron... If they knew more girls were playing, there wouldn't be an excuse to think of girl gamers as a type of person to be abused. It would be made known that anyone could be a girl, and people would probably clean up their act, then, so as not to appear as bad people in front of 'The Ladies'.

Alright, all of that might not be true, but hiding, making people think you're not there, is going to make them think you're never there. And then probably make you a target for that kind of abuse when you win because no one ever thinks that person that just killed their ass in Modern Warfare 2 is a girl; Which in turn makes them think that when a girl kills their ass, that means they're cheating.

It just seems kind of... Contradictory.

It's not an oxymoron, it's just a vicious cycle.
When people thought the world was flat they didn't go exploring too far for fear of falling off the end of the world. This resulted in people continuing to think the world was flat because nobody was willing to check. Eventually however, some guys did, and people changed their tune.
Wimmenz gamers need to make a stand if they want to be accepted. Once they are more accepted it will encourage more wimmenz to join and be open aboot who they are.
They must stand up and say "I'm Sparticus", or that they are girl gamers, I'm not picky. I just prefer movie references.

I always thought there was a connection between how the "cool girls" treated the gamers in real life and how the gamer guys treated girls in games. I agree with people here that you should ignore them, there are nice guys out there, they are just hard to see due to the number of very vocal dipshits in games. Maybe get yourself a banner? Also that whole "Never seen a real women before" Thats BS you people think way to into this and its getting pretty silly. Its not cause women arnt accepted women game just as much! like comon guys. In my local fighting game group theres like 10-20 of us. We have many girls who game and like the 2nd best player is a girl. She took 3rd place in our last tournament.
