Also, it kind of depends what console you were playing on. The 360 (and no, I'm not hating on the 360 here, just making a point) comes with a mic, so it's easier for people to be dicks online. With the PS3, fewer people have mics, so fewer people will yell at you. Not that the PS3 is free of mic-spammers, there are just fewer of them.

I never understood the "No Girls Allowed" mentality. I'm always thrilled to see girls play video games, because it's so uncommon. People should be encouraging them, not putting them down.

I have a history of loitering around the Soul Calibur 4 online multiplayer. I love this game for whatever reason, but this isn't what this topic is about.
While on their I keep finding myself becoming the victim of the No Girls Allowed club. When I enter matches I occasionally will get sneared at for being a girl. One of my favourite most recent lines I had to take before being kicked was: "God, this is why girls suck at games, they have to cheat to beat a guy!"

why is it that girls have to take this kind of smack talk? I realize that there will always be smack-talk online, however it seems girls get attacked from the moment we enter a room.

I am actually trying to get my lil sister into gaming by playing Soul Caliber 4 with her and the Transformers: War for Cybertron demo. Not working out too well atm lol

They like to throw the whole "cheating" idea at you ladies, when clearly they have the dexterity of a snail at some video games. (Unless snails are very dexterous. Well Personally I have no problem with girls gaming, every girl I've encountered in CSS or L4D has actually been very good, usually better than me and notably I've yet to see a girl act like a jerk.

Still, i'll never forget when I spent MONTHS on building up an awesome win-streak in Tekken: Dark Ressurection's Survival as Sergei Dragunov, only for a girl to beat it on her first try.

As the slow-arsed Heihachi Mishima, no less. Apparently she hadn't played any games of the series since Tekken 2.

Never before did I instantly respect anyone as much as I did then. ^_^

People are stupid. Though why there is a paticular amount of stupidity around this subject is beyond me.

I've heard theories that it has to do with the fact video games seem to be a male dominated industry/pasttime/whatever. Coupled with the anomaly that the internet gives anyone, it makes it easy to attack "outsiders." A similer effect I think (I really don't watch American Football or much else) can be observed in other sports as well though there little anomoly in those areas.

I've also heard that these traits can be traced back to some gentic. . . . I find people are stupid to be much easier.

It beats me entirely what these guys think girls do in their spare time.

You beat him so he came out with a sexist insult, he would've insulted you on your accent, skin colour, weight (ok he couldn't see you but that's not the point), family, or whatever if he had the chance too. He was being spiteful because you beat him, as is the case with 99% of incidents like these (in my experience). It's not really an issue unless there's some real malice behind it, as opposed to making a spiteful, childish comment just because he could. He probably doesn't really believe that, he was just lashing out from behind a wall of anonymity, as gamers are wont to do.
