i'm not going to argue with you because i'm terrible at those but i feel that you are wrong on this subject just because you adapt something into your culture doesn't mean it's erased forever.Dosvidonya said:Missionaries
I find the idea of it totally repulsive. That these religious groups have the audacity of going to other nations, that are less well off, and pretty much saying, "Hey we'll help you and give you food and water... but only if you ditch your peoples cultures and language and adapt ours." It's sick, and the worst part is that they really don't help at all. They don't teach them how to grow food or how to maintain things, they just give out handouts and then leave the people to fend for themselves. So in the end an old and interesting culture, and language, is erased and the people aren't left off any better.
Meh. Most people don't take the time to actually learn about their damn religion, so that's all they really can say.Matthew94 said:This, so much this.Togs said:The religious, I dont get how people can overlook the barbarity and outmoded moral concepts thats rife throughout religion. Every time I poke a huge whole in how BS a religion is (I don't actively do this btw) people I know just shrug and say "that's what I believe".
This. I hate intentionally ignorant people, who use their ignorance as a shield. It's bad enough that the Creationists use bad science to explain their thoughts, but some people outright deny evolution, on the basis that 'The bible tells me so.' Which brings me to my personal hatred, which I cannot understand no matter what I do.launchpadmcqwak said:people who don't accept evolution because they are religious or whatever. Its like how can you not believe in something that has been proven by scientific FACT?, or when they go "the scientific community is divided on this matter" NO IT FUCKING ISN'T. and when the come up with the stupidest arguments to support there opinions for example: "where are the transitional fossils?" EVERY FOSSIL IS A TRANSITIONAL FOSSIL (is that how you spell fossil? i dunno) "why aren't monkeys at the zoo evolving into humans???" when they pull this one out of there ass i have a "i don't want to live n this planet anymore" moment and i go mental and break shit!.
that whole thing about sports? it was just... stupidHeimir said:Drugs rule bro. Just gotta know yer way around them. When in doubt, do pot. Just don't overdo it and it's all good. Since religion was covered...drugs. I definitely want to risk permanent damage so that I can black out and wake up feeling like shit in some strange place. Sounds like a good time to me.
And people already beat me to religion as well. Hats off to Kopikatsu!
So other than religion. I guess football and ball-sports in general is something I cant wrap my head around and its fans are some of the most obnoxious pricks ever to grace the planet.
And the sports themselves are usually just a bunch of braindead degenerates kicking a round object around into a net like a bunch of dogs and then get paid ludicrous amounts for it. It's not like they are stopping worldhunger or curing cancer people. It's a bunch of reprobates kicking a ball around... Can we get out of the stone-age please?
THIS (which needs some context) I was visiting my girlfriend while she was still living with her parents. So I would go to church with them if they wanted me to (I would feel like an ass for saying no or complaining since they are insanely nice). But one time I was staying there and went to church the pastor was speaking about someone who was seconds away from murdering/sacrificing his own son. Why? Because God/some angel (I can't remember) told him to do it to test his faith.Xero Scythe said:."Because *blank* tells me so."
I understand where you're coming from as I'm a very outspoken atheist as well, but I know why people generally turn to religion. It can be a source of advice or comfort to those in need of it and can give you a sense of community.Togs said:The religious, I dont get how people can overlook the barbarity and outmoded moral concepts thats rife throughout religion. Thank you. You managed to say in a paragraph what I failed to say in a rant. I applaud you and your bravery.Belated said:This thread is turning to a crucifixion of religious people. For fucks sake, knock it off. I don't care if you don't understand why I have deities. But you don't have to be such an asshole about it. You people assume all religion-based morals are bad and that all religious people hate gays and don't believe in evolution. Did it occur to you people that there's more than one religion and more than one way to follow a religion? Of course it didn't. Because you people don't think. You just look for any excuse to hate those who are different from you. You're no better than the particular kinds of religious people you criticize.
And that's what I don't get. People who assume the worst of all religions and faiths and clearly have never heard of "hypocrisy". Tolerance is a two-way street.
I sort of see whaere you're coming from. I don't understand how people can blindly follow a faith, even in the face of plausible evidence against a specific belief. However, I am not an athiest, nor am I agnostic. No, I am a Universalist, and in the true sense of the word. I spent a long time studying my initial religion and all subsequent ones that I researched, building my own specific set of spiritual beliefs that make sense for me.CrashBang said:I agree with what you're saying and see where you're cong from, being a very opinionated atheist as well, but even I have to admit to understanding that some people have faith simply as a comfort. I don't get why people complain about their problems and do nothing to fix it.
I don't get why my neighbor can claim disability checks and then build an addition to his house by himself.
I don't get why people hate ponies.
I don't get what the big deal is if homosexuals marry.
I don't get why I can't like COD and other popular games with out being labeled as a mainstream idiot by my "friends" while I still play games that I enjoy.
I don't get why people think that card games are for 11 year olds or virgins.
I don't get what the obsession is with beauty in our society.
I don't get what the over obsession is with sport and their athletes is.
I don't get why athletes get paid as much as they do.
I don't get why I can be beat up by a black man and him only be charged with assault but if I were to do it, it would become a hate crime as well.
I don't understand why the portrayal of male figures is so terrible/insulting in today's media yet women get to ***** up and down if there is something like the new Dr.Pepper commercial and no one says anything about it.
I don't get feminists who think they can do things better than any man. On that matter I don't get feminists who think the only way to create a well working society is to kick all the men out. (note: I support women's rights and that if they do an equal job as a man that they be treated no differently.)
On my last note, I don't understand why women wear revealing clothes if they don't want people to see that part of them.
Theres much more but I'll stop here.
