Apparently, Peter Molyneux doesn't want melee in The Journey because Kinect can't do recoil. Yes, a flaw so terrible that the melee simply wouldn't cut it.

What do you guys think? I think he's overreacting a bit here. But, it is Peter Molyneux, and he overreacts on a good day.

I think Peter Molyneux should sell the Fable license to someone who knows how to make games.

And **** kinect. It's just a glorified playstation eyetoy.

So basically, you'll be stood wiggling your hands around like an octopus suffering an epileptic seizure.

And yes, yes my brain is indeed geared towards feeling recoil from a melee weapon .... when i'm swinging it at someones head. If i'm playing a game i'm not generally aiming to feel solid connection with a weapon swing, if I did that i'd be in a constant panic thinking i'd punched one of my children in the mouth.

Get a grip Peter, get a grip.

WTF, is up with these developers and their anti melee game design, lol.

Deus Ex Human Revolution and now Fable.

What next, an UFC game with no melee combat?

I have to admit, what he´s saying makes sense. Unless you´re holding something sword-like, it´ll never feel like you´re actually swinging a sword, motion controls don´t help that. The same thing goes for guns.
The kind of magic he´s describing, however, doesn´t require you to physically hold anything so it might come pretty close to making you feel like you´re actually casting spells yourself, rather than tell someone else to do it. On top of that, the examples he´s giving seem quite intuitive.
In short, the idea isn´t bad, but that doesn´t mean the game will be good (obviously).

Whether or not the game will actually be good is impossible to tell at this point, though
Just because it's realistic doesn't make it fun.

Likely a deal breaker for me. Ive been very supportive of Fable. Ive bought all three games, 1 and three I bought twice. And all the extra content (as in quest content and not irrelevant vanity garbage)

But to play a fable game that not only limits me to two of my hated archtypes (ranja and mage) is quite uninteresting. I HATE dexterity classes based on dexterity, Ranja, Rogue, etc and I just dont get into mage classes unless its a heavily armored priest class Such as a templar or Battle cleric. So in essence that leaves me with having to play a class I dont identify with and do not enjoy.

The thing is, this is exactly the type of gameplay experience the Kinect is in sore need of. Granted its delivery will invariably be less than perfect, but you cant be afraid of making something that isnt phenomenal when the technology is still in its infancy. And its a majorly missed opportunity to do a melee combat with kinect right given the limitation of the kinects lack of a true and practical direction control coupled with the "on rails" nature of The journey.

It is sort of making me mad that I have a kinect and Kinect has been out for almost a year and there still is next to no games that utilize its technology in a way that doesnt mirror what the WII already set as a standard and then proceeded to run into the ground. Its Dance games, workout games, carnival/party games and thats the bulk of what its been used for. So its sort of aggravating when the chance to make a solid melee kinect experience was passed on and the kinect is left to rely on children of eden for anything different for its motion control unit.

Sorry Pete, your an infuriating twat sometimes.

makes sense otherwise you would have to recentre the weapon after every hit due to your hand not stopping in the same place the weapon did unless its all one hit kills and your blade goes though them like warm butter

One begins to wonder if Peter Molyneux's design process begins with him doing enough lsd to fill a bath tub and then consulting a ouiji board, possibly while being repeatedly clubbed in the back of the head with a large oar.

Gah, Lionhead pisses me off so damn much. Fable was a fantastic game, likely one of the best of the last generation. 2 and 3 should by all rights have been great as well, and in some ways they were. But for every awesome thing and improvement over the previous game, there was something else that was either jaw-droppingly stupid or utterly infuriating, and often both.

For example; the dog was a great addition, and was for the most part damned useful when exploring and helping you to sniff out all that lovely, lovely loot. But then sometimes it seemed like his keen, focused canine brain had been transplanted with the degenerating grey matter of a dementia suffering hedgehog. I won't even get into the moronic choice you have to make at the end of the game. Fable 2's radial menu was both expansive and efficient, but it seems whoever was in charge of npc interaction decided that actually being allowed to choose how to interact was an unnecessary luxury, and so my supposedly straight hero now has no choice but to dance the waltz with every male subject he has to impress. Maybe Albion has outgrown gender sterotypes, either that or everyone in the game is secretly bisexual. On top of that, instead of being able to sway entire crouds of people, it seems that the hero of Fable 3 is a wee bit shy and has to deal with his subjects one by bloody one. I could go on all day with these.

"One step forward, two steps back" pretty much sums up the Fable series. Or better yet "one step forward, slips on a banana peel and faceplants the paving stones".

Those limited by bioelectiral energy take downs which are primarily for limited use in stealth gameplay. Compare it to the first two Deus Ex games where you had melee weapons you could keep using unlimitedly bashing or slicing enemies up without it becoming a cutscene each time and not having to wait for your energy to recharage before bashing things again. It was evne possible in the first two with the right augs and weapons to be a straight up melee character just bashing things I think without even being concerned about stealth.

The closest thing I can think of to Deus ex 3's melee system is when walking around first person in Vampire bloodlines and sneaking behind a dude and using the stealth kill ability. But Vampire Bloodlines had if awkward third person combat at least as an option as well. Just annoying how they are limiting your choices, especially considering your a former swat/police force dude I think. Why the hell is there is no baton? Especially, since the Deus Ex Games are all about choices with gameplay.

So everyone now agrees that Kinect is pretty much going to make a bunch of on rail shooters and that's it? (other than mini-games of course)

I really liked the first Fable and got let down by the second, heard the third was awful.

I might be a little bit bitter at the shit Peter M spews out.

I don't really see that much of a difference between the third and second one to be honest.

But I found hte first three to be all relatively simple easy games that are funny. I don't play them for a challenge or to think but they are fun to play in their own way.

But yeah, Fables Journeys does look shitty.

Yet more proof that this is not a real fable game. Prepared to just look the other way on this ala highlander 2 and robo cop 3.

Innovation and new hardware is supposed to advance games, not pull them back.
