Sad but for the best. The Nostalgia Critic was starting to get really stale and I could see that they've been trying to really hard to keep it alive for the past few months by doing something "new" and "original" each episode with it blowing up in their faces. Still, it's gonna be weird not watching the big NC on wednesdays.
Ah well. There's always Nostalgia Chick, Todd in the Shadows, JessuOtaku, PushingUpRoses, Linkara, Angry Joe, and Rap Critic to watch!
Also, I'm eager to see what's gonna happen with the new show. And I'm also eager to find out what will happen to the next anniversary show.

I had only recently started watching Nostalgia Critic. But I did enjoy the little I did see. It's a bit sad but respectable that he ended Nostalgia Critic when he felt that it had run its course.
'tis better for a good thing to end before it gets bad(er), than to have it well and truly run into the ground. There's probably a better way of saying it.

I've always loved the Nostalgia Critic. I've loved almost all his reviews. He introduced me to internet reviewers.
But, his stuff WAS starting to get very samey. Scooby Doo was great, but it HAD to end.
I'm just glad he got such a glorious sendoff in the form of To Boldy Flee.

This kinda depresses me. I first discovered Channel Awesome and it's many contributors not even a year ago and now the only reason I even know what that site is, is no longer going be a constant presence there. Apart from some specials no doubt!
But at the same time I will agree that NC hasn't been all that funny for a while now. So it's probably for the best. At least AT4W is still there!
Slightly off topic: My only question now is: If the Nostalgia Critic could be considered the de-facto leader of the critics, who will lead them now?

Why exactly? He is one of the few people who's reviews I actually watch when I I'm considering buying a new game rather than just for comedy, and I normally find myself agreeing with him.Zachary Amaranth said:

It's been real popular over the last 7 or so years, but now that "angry swearing reviews of games/movies/tv shows/music/anime/retro media" sort of genre has just slowly been dying off in interest for me. I think there needs to be a drastic change in formula for it to survive. Does anyone else get where I'm coming from with this?

Dude's persona is a douchey fuckwad who tries really hard to be funny but only comes off as a fanboy, virtually fellating games and has serious issues both with review content and ratings. Fanboy Joe would be more appropriate, and even then it only scrapes the surface. He's also one of the worst speakers I've ever seen get paid to do videos. I mean, sure, I can find worse on Youtube, but this is a dude who gets money and is treated with credibility. Throw in the fact that he's taken Stockholm Syndrome to a higher level in his relationship with Capcom, and I've gotten to the point where I don't even like seeing his name anymore.major_chaos said:

I don't find NC stale, but I am astonished that people think a new show will change much. He's shown very little range across his entire series of videos. This new series will likely be Malibu Stacy's new hat. I mean, I'll enjoy it, but I'm not one of the people complaining that his shtick is old hat, either.
It probably won't be all that interesting, because Doug doesn't display much capacity to do different things. On top of which, when he does try, he gets crapped on by the CA crowd.
I mean, I'm not out to change anyone's mind. It's just that it's baffling that people are acting like this is likely to be at all fresh. Or, at least, fresher than it is now.
ehhh Agree to disagree, personal I find that normally (though not always) if he gushes over a game its because it's a great game that deserves the praise and if he rages at a game it's because the game is terrible, and I have never found his style as grating or unfunny as some others (Lupa,Phelous, and Benzaie come to mind) although I do agree that for the most part he isn't funny but I don't watch him for the comedy.Zachary Amaranth said:

He was getting stale. The whole site is. I hardly ever go on there anymore. Once they started featuring garbage like Diamanda hagain (or however you spell it) I knew the site was going down the shitter. That aside, I actually rather enjoy Oancitizen's stuff.
You know I never was able to get into Nostalgia Critic, and I'm not really sure why. I'd try every once in a while because I was tired of seeing his quotes all over TvTropes articles, and I'd feel bad because I never saw any of it. But for some reason I just couldn't get into it.
Maybe now's a good time to try?
