*sigh* I could guess it wasn't being released this year by the lack of information on the internet... but anyways this one better be pretty damn good with all the time there taking...
Or they might be spending their money on sex and drugs parties? I would

Somewhere in the world, A valve team member is watching gameing sites and carefully judging just how distressed the community is. When they reach riot level, Valve will swoop in and announce that the game will be released within a month. Then in two months it will be released!

I don't know what Valve is doing but they really need to learn how to get their rears in gear and get things moving. Episode 3 sounds like its winding up with Duke Nukem, syndrome where nothing is good enough and they have to start over over and over again.

The February 2010 issue of Game Informer states that there won't be a new Half-Life game released in 2010. What's more, it's not even clear what form a new game would take. It could be Half-Life 2: Episode Three or it may be Half-Life 3.
Hey, can we play a little game?

Topic headline: "Rumor: No Half-Life In 2010"

Which one of those 6 words (4 words and a number if you're being pedantic) do you think is the most important?

Everyone else can join in with this one as well.

Everyone got an answer?
Rumor: No Half-Life In 2010.

That's right, RUMOUR. Not fact, rumour. As in non-confirmed. Game Informer might be saying it, but until we get the official announcement, pump your breaks.
It's well known that VALVe works a little differently to other developers, in that people work on the projects that they want to work on. That's why TF2 is still getting more content, why L4D2 only took a year, and presumably why HL2ep3 isn't out yet.

The other link you provided was written almost 2 years ago. A lot of stuff can happen in 2 years. Just because there's no screenshots or video doesn't mean it's there. Personally I'd wait for either E3 or a developer announcement before committing seppuku with your keyboard...

Sure, let's play! It's called gasoline catches on fire easier than water. :) Everything osted in a forum should just be considered a rumor.

Seppuku with my keyboard? I would say it's more like you're trying to commit homicide with yours! I'm just here to fan the flames of nerd rage.

anybody else thinking, Duke Nukem Forever?
Honestly? No, we got both Episode 1 and 2. We got Half-Life 2. We got Left 4 Dead 2 within a year. TF2 is still getting patches. Portal 2 is being made, CS2 might be in the works by Valve. The guy who first worked on it work on a CS2 with a new crew.

So no, Half-Life 2 Episode 3 is no where near Duke Nukem Forever standard. Anyone who does has a couple of screws lose in his head.

This is though probably a chance for them to do a graphic overhaul. There are many things which can be improved in the game.

Why would Valve bother with any sort of consistency with their releases when they are so stuffed with money? Like someone said before in this thread, they have Steam, they don't need to make games, it's become more like a hobby to them. I wouldn't be surprised if they released Ep3 and Portal 2 in 2012 or 2013, for a grand total of 5 hours of gameplay, 1 year of development per hour. In gaming development, there seem to exist only two extremes: Poor devs who bust their asses trying to make a good game and are often forced to release it broken and unfinished, and over-stuffed, self indulgent, franchise-milking monstrosities like Blizzard and Valve who completely abandon all work ethic and release stuff when they feel like it, if they feel like it, and care about nothing, least of all you. Do yourselves a favor and find something more fun to do with your time than be angry at stuff like that.

Blizzard not caring about their customers? Sure, I can see that. Hell, for example, there's no legitimate reason for splitting up StarCraft 2 into three games beyond milking the greatest amount of cash out of it as possible. But Valve not caring? They are one of the few companies still out there that consistently update, patch, and, not only provide support, but also develop new (free) content for already released apps on a regular basis. Nevermind all the time and effort they put into helping the mod community. Seems like they care to me.

Yeah, it's taking a long time to release Ep3, but there's a LOT on their plate and they are effectively alone in developing these games. (unlike, say Bungie, which is staffed by a small country with budget assets equal to china's GDP and yet only churn out one game every two years or so)

I gotta agree with you about that. Valve does seem to do a pretty good job of taking care of their fans - but it is SO HARD not to feel cheated as a Half-Life fan when they were showering the L4D2 fans (even the people that hated it and boycotted it) with attention.

I mean, come on Valve - invite a HL2EP3 skeptic to your HQ and show them you actually have something created.

Nah, there were loads of companies out there who provided free stuff for their games, at least until the DLC trend set in and gamers inexplicably bought into it, so now that they know people are idiots they don't need to do that anymore, instead they can release new areas which you complete in 1 hour and charge 15$ for them (hi Bioware). As for the community, I hope you are kidding. Of course Valve worship their modding community, hell, they've made half of Valve's games for them and all they had to do was put Valve's name on them and cash in.

I'll grant you, many of Valve's games were born out of the modding community, but how is that a bad thing? They saw mods like Counter-Strike and Team Fortress, in their very early forms, as signs of true talent and offered jobs to the creators of those mods. Then, when the modders unsurprisingly accepted those offers, Valve said, "Go ahead and work on what you want." And, again unsurprisingly, they worked on the projects they started in their own mods. I mean, God forbid a company not think it's above the gaming community and share ideas with said community and listen to what that same community wants. Unlike so many other companies. 'cough' Epic Games 'cough' Besides, they support the modding community that makes all of the free mods too, not just the ones they think are monetarily viable.

And no, there weren't a "load" of companies out there providing free stuff for their games. Even before the whole DLC movement. I've been into PC gaming for a long, long time. It's always been a rarity for any company to be willing to give free content to it's customers. I point you to Blizzard and Maxis/EA, just as examples. Their less then stellar updates to StarCraft, WarCraft, and the Sims, respectively, weren't free updates. They were ALWAYS full-release add-ons priced at or near full game prices. Sierra entertainment did the same thing with Half-Life when they still owned the rights to it. (yeah, Valve had to buy the franchise back) Blue Shift and Opposing Force were released as full-priced add-ons too.

VALVE! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

I know they're quite a small studio man-power wise, but things are really starting to get silly now. They have episode 3 to finish, and then HL3 maybe they've taken a leaf out of 3D Realms' book, and are taking it slow so as not to get fired.

All I hope is that HL3 is as much a masterpiece as Duke Nukem: Forever was.
Why did they have to take over This Land?

Ok, first of all nobody said that it's a bad thing that Valve care so much about their modding community. I hope more did it. Like Bioware. What happened to all those people who made some absolutely amazing stories for NWN1? Especially that guy who made Lone Wolf? Back when I was still checking, nothing. And then what do you get? Dragon Age, with its snorefest of a setting that we have seen 5 billion times before. When you spot talent, you should try to use it. And for the love of Gog, innovate a bit.

Second, sorry, you are wrong, free stuff used to be fairly common. You mention Blizzard and Warcraft. Of course, what did you expect them to do, give away Frozen Throne for free? It is a full expansion pack, complete with campaigns, cinematics, new units and such. Of course not. But if you remember, Frozen Throne shipped without an Orc campaign, because it did not fit with the main story. They still did make an Orc campaign though, an RPG campaign which mostly inspired the people who made Dota later. They divided it in separate acts which were pretty damn long (and totally awesome), and they released the acts for free every time they had a big content patch coming out. Would something like that happen after the DLC trend set in? Hell no. That was my point when I refered to it.

Oh no. No episode 3 this year, I'm so sad. /sarcasm

You know, there is OTHER games that will be released this year. Half-Life is not the only game in the world.

And how do I like Half-Life at all?

Good but over-hyped.

I couldn't care less. Half-Life 2 was average as. I struggled to make myself play it through to the end. Portal on the other hand, outstanding. Made the Orange Box actually worth my money.

Do you know when Diablo 3 will be released?

OP: Meh, I can wait. I will only rage if they release a L4D 3 before anything else.

No idea, with Blizzard these things can take a while.
