Well, when I was playing Final Fantasy XII, I only got as far as the second Esper (the one you fight in the old mountain shrine). He just kept healing himself, and I couldn't figure out how to prevent him from doing so - I would just run out of health for my characters long before he did.
Congratulations for getting past Elder Wyrm. That fucker ruined my game. I stopped playing after what is now 234 losses.

It doesn't help that at that point you're very underleveled and grinding is about as easy as making humans fly.
Thanks. Wow, 234 losses? I think Elder Wyrm took me maybe 2 or 3 tries. Weird :/

People keep mentioning that guy. I literally walked into him on accident and dropped him on my first try. He was fairly tough, but geez, you'd think he was a diamond-coated murder machine, with a mouth missile and I don't know what else from reputation.

The hunt marks on the other hand.. seriously, fuck those guys. Vastly overleveled for when you get them, hit like a flaming tank, cheap, CHEAP movesets, and so on. Each was more of a nightmare than the last.

The FlameLurker on Demon's Souls kicked my ass the first time I tried to beat him, and many times after that. Didn't help I was using the firesword against a fire demon though.
The False King is also quite a tough fellow, but he is the spiritual final boss (the real last boss is basically a slug that can probably be beat by a level 1 character.

The Red Eye Knight in the first level of Demon's Souls. I tried fighting him on my first playthrough of the level, first time playing the game. He absolutely fucking dominated me, for 90 minutes straight before I gave up then realised that I didn't even have to fight him. I felt so stupid after that, I'm still recovering from it and it happened like a month ago.

The fucking second fight against Barthandelus in Final Fantasy 13. I swear that was one of the most irritating bosses in that game and the only one that forced me to grind. I hate grinding!

Seymour Guado on Mount Gazet in Final Fantasy X was a pain in the ass. Also, that damn flying robot destroyer in Killzone 2. I tried over 18 times to kill that thing. Eventually the game glitched and i killed it anyways but STILL! I knew how to beat it, it was just incredibly fast and could kill you in less than 5 seconds.

Always grind. That is the first rule of gaming right there. If there are respawning enemies, and you can level, grind like hell. Haven't you ever played a final fantasy game?

One time i got bored and didn't even leave the destiny islands until I was lvl 20. A bit extreme, but it works.

All the same, she still is a tougher boss.

]Fucking SEPHIROTH in Kingdom Hearts Two. 13 health bars, NO ALLIES [they disable Donald and Goofy], one-hit kill moves that can only be blocked with reaction commands, and when you get him down to the third bar, he fucking RAINS METEORS that if the even touch you, YOU DIE.

I've beaten the game thrice, i'm like level 87, and i have the goddamn Ultima Weapon keyblade and i still can't fucking get close...
Do you use heal protect? the thing that stops him from killing your heal? also, try changing your abilities away from team or drive orientated configurations. Other than that it's just practice and elixirs. LOTS of elixirs.

In Blue Dragon, there is a part where you have to fight a giant green robot from Sonic the Hedgehog that shoots out eight little green robots from Sonic the Hedgehog whenever you hurt it. Then it hides behind the fuckers until you kill them all and hits you with party-crippling damage the whole time. Oh, and your Black Mage was captured by the enemies an hour ago.

The first time I fought that chucklefuck, I 100% could not defeat him. I was underleveled. My main damage dealer was MIA. I was out of restorative items.

So, I rebooted and played the entire game back to where I was, and tried again. For a day. Eventually, I killed it. And then, in the next room, you find out that the whole thing was a trap and you're captured. Great job making me feel like I accomplished something, game.

At the time, I was an RPG virgin. First RPG ever, didn't know the basic rules of them. Now I know to grind like hell, but like you said, she's still a tough boss.

Really? I was at approximately the same level and beat him with Oblivion. And I didn't even level up my drives. I dunno, maybe it was because I did it so many times I practically memorize his attack patterns. Try doing that.

The train Demon Boss in Ninja Gaiden 2 always kicks my ass because it involves being decent with the bow which in fights I'm not at all decent.

Doku's Ghost and Alma from the first NG do deserve mention for being asskicklying hard but so damn fun at the same time.

Raja Naga from DDS2, more to my lack of Agi skills than actual difficulty

Edit: Forgot about the Gollem sisters in Chrono Trigger, the spam the attack that halves HP and knock out 2/3 of the party before any one can heal.

Edit2: Just remembered DhoulMagus from DQ8, I struggled through his first form and then his second form started. I kept thinking that this is a scripted battle and I was meant to die but no they actually expected me to beat this mother fucker.
