Has anyone heard of Planetside the only MMO iv been interested in trying to compare to sompeoples comments:- You can work alone, in squads, platoons (3 squads), outfits (more or less a 'Clan/Guild').Its based in the future, no swords and bows (other than a dagger). The idea is you join 1 of 3 factions (if you create an account then you can make up to i think 8 players so you have a chance to play as all 3 factions if you want) and you have to take over bases and towers on I think 7 continents, with the objective of trying to take over the planet. There?s always something to do and has good enough graphics. You can?t build or destroy the landscape. I haven?t played it in awhile so I can?t confirm the fee (yes monthly) or if its changed from what i rember. And yay to signing up just for this post. oh if you want a website http://planetside.station.sony.com/ (made by sony).
I played Planetside when it first came out. Wasn't really impressed by it. Maybe it got better as time went on, but I couldn't stand it when I played. It glitched out far too much for me, and didn't particularly like my computer. If they have a free trial, I might try it again, it was a refreshing break from swords and magic MMOs.

Once I heard of the Warhammer 40k MMO in development then I was instantly sold - although, I'm sure it could still turn out to be an utter failure. I just hope they get it right, make it something that is less focused on your character, and more focused on your character trying to help out in the Universe, it makes the game less "selfish" and a lot more interesting. Also, it's gotta have an M rating, I know games will try to lower the rating for a bigger audience, but this is warhammer here, if they give this anything under an "M" or "18" for other places, then something is wrong. Unless it has potential of getting banned in places like Germany and Australia so in that case, I'll forgive them.

Also, EVE sounds great but it seems like it'll take more commitment then I can give, but from what I heard, take out those gate campers or w/e - and I'm sold.

PotBS also sounds like it would be fun, with those pirate raids and such, but, still seems very "character oriented".

I have been looking forward to Darkfall [http://youtube.com/watch?v=_bYYT6Wg3Gg]

I admit I am fearful because there's the possibility that they're trying to stuff too much into a game.

In general, just get rid of the auto attacking system, leaving a bit more room for skill to determine an outcome. I would like mounts, anything from horses to flying beast. I also don't want to have to pay but I know that part's never going to happen.

If you get to level 500000 your bomb range will reflect this.

An mmo like Urban Dead, except you know...like a real proper game. An online world full of zombies and survivors, how awesome would that be?

Well a vent server isn't free, the last time I checked but a lot of table top rpg systems have free source books online available from the publisher, and there are dice rolling programs online.
Could you specify what you mean by a "vent server", because I'm unfamiliar with the term?
Not specifically a server. It allows you to use your mike to talk into a Party/Guild/General Chat. And I don't know if it's free...I know a mike isn't.

How about a MMO that grinds while you're not playing it allowing you to do the fun stuff while you're actually online?

i actually liked WoW because i would spend more time seeking out and helping friends than grinding my life away, once i realized that levels weren't everything and the game really would wait for me until i wanted to go out and level, i had a blast running my Noobs through dungeons, making stuff for friends, mucking about with the guild and saying stupid stuff over general chat.

I got told i was a noob and an idiot for taking a week to get a level in the 40-50 range... but i was having fun that entire time...

Once a new player realizes he/she is paying for play-time and not levels (so not leveling isn't wasting money) they can use that time to do what they like, i once spent a month in Warsong gulch at level 47 because it was fun and i was in a guild that did it often and had a sense of humor, like taking the flag and pointlessly prolonging games.

For every person that got indignant when i didn't take the game seriously i felt warm inside because i was playing it how it should be played.

I eventually got to 70 and had made so many friends that i never went without something fun to do, and although it took me 3 times as long as that orc who appeared at the same time as me in the valley of trials... it was so worth it.

MMO haters, i think that if you can find the right people to play with, the grind becomes something to do in your spare time.

I only quit because of other commitments.

Also, try saying random things over general and feeling warm when you know that you are better inside than every single person that complains.

If they took a combat system like Gunz the Duel has as a base template.

Try it out, its a fun, fast paced game; Although I wouldn't suggest expecting to much from the community there, it is by and large made up of wankers..

I used to play WoW quite religiously, and having given that up, getting me to re-buy the game would involve the following:
1. Stop being the same damn thing over and over. Everything you see for however many days/weeks/months/years you stay with the game, you've seen in your first WEEK playing.
2. Come packaged with a bass guitar. I've been wanting to pick that up for ages but I don't have the money.

A computer powerful enough to run Age of Conan would spur me to play an MMO.

Truly anti-social levels of PvP would be a nice start. Murdering other people and taking their stuff should be the primary focus of the game. In fact, that should be the entire focus of the game. Their are other people. They have stuff. By the direct ordination of God, that stuff is fated to belong to you. It is your right, nay, your very duty, to brutally murder those people in a clever and unfair fashion and take their stuff. You must then taunt them in a fashion that is tasteful, yet mercilessly cruel.

Character Creation! If I want to play a morbidly obese woman with boils and a clubfoot and a tendency to mix stripes with plaid, so help me I shall! And thy shape shall reflect thy abilities, sort of like in GTA:SA, but without that disappearing neck thing that happened to CJ.

Combat, which will be entirely between players, will consist of locating other people, placing them between your balistically accurate, entirely unassisted ironsights, and pulling the trigger once. Maybe twice, if you're a crappy shot or you are fighting in close quarters. Several times if they have decent body armor. They will proceed to fall over, scream, bleed, thrash a bit, then die, leaving you to steal all of their shiny, shiny loots.

When you are not capping hapless passersby and taking their things, you shall be involved in incessant territorial conflict, as you and the clan which you are forced to join in the interest of safety in numbers fight to maintain a territory and a resource and production base. This base will consist of bunkers, castles, and similar large bullet and bomb resistant structures, which should bristle with guns.

Crafting will be carried out by robots, slaves, or people in fictional third party manufacturing firms. Resource gathering will consist more of taking territory (by force), sticking a flag in it, and holding on to it while AI peons do the mining than clicking a rock fifty thousand times. If you really feel the need to get your hands dirty, you can screw around with your guns, swapping trigger groups, barrels, sights, and whatever. Also, a complete simulation of vehicle engines, just for the hell of it.

No levels of any kind. If there is any abstract skill set for players, it will be based on in game actions and mostly revolve around stamina. And there will be lots of shiny toys like artillery that needs to have the maths worked out if it's to hit anything, so that you lot who can't shoot for anything in an FPS will have a way to even things out with the AWP whores of the world.

For no reason other than I think it is awesome, this hypothetical MMO must involve air combat between heavily armed helicopters, zeppelins, and the odd space station in L5.

There must be a huge bloody game world. Large parts of the game should consist of exploring this game world, finding useful stuff, securing it, and exploiting it before someone else kills you and takes it. Note that by exploring I mean driving around hell for leather in Mad Max jalopies bristling with guns and armor plating in a dystopian post-nuclear wasteland, looking for anything that might contain useful resources and isn't much more radioactive than the background.

Oh, and of course you'd need to have a detailed, fully integrated flower arranging sim, because I am a sucker for random moments of zen.
