My friend told me to download this file, then Norton Internet Security spotted a trojan, and told me that it removed it about 3 times, then it stopped. Is my computer safe now? (just making sure)

As long as your Norton is up-to-date, you're as safe as you can hope to be.

Still doesn't hurt to back-up your computer occasionally, in case you ever had to do a system restore.

Quote: Haha norton get AVG or something good.
Also, ignore this kind of stuff. AVG is a piece of crap. I would trust Norton far before I ever touched AVG again.

I used Norton AV for 8 years and never once had a problem. (Now run Mac OS)

All the hate on Norton never made much sense to me.

I used to use Avast, then I got shitstormed so bad my PC couldn't even load up.
Reinstalled, started using Norton and I haven't had any issues, whatsoever, since.
No emails hacked, no game passwords stolen, no nothin'.

Depending on what the program was even if Norton said it was a Trojan it might still be okay. For example game trainers are picked up by a lot of virus scans as Trojans when in actual fact they're not, its just the way the programs are written.

Personally, I'd be inclined to trust someone named Count Zero concerning matters of computer security.

Most of the hate on Norton is people trying to be cool. There are some legitimate complaints, but they are mostly the minority. My install of Norton happened to go crazy somehow, and when I uninstalled it, my computer started loading twice as fast compared to with it. Right then and there I swore it off and switched to AVG.

Aren't trojans supposed to protect you from viruses?
I'm pretty sure I heard from a well respected political candidate[footnote]And occasional Wiccan[/footnote] that condoms actually increase the spread of HIV/AIDS.

If you aren't having trouble there doesn't seem to be any reason to be alarmed. But no you're not safe. You live in a bad neighborhood[footnote]I know that probably isn't true, but I figured I'd try it in the off chance it was[/footnote].

Norton IS a virus.

I decided to switch after monitoring its resource consumption and it took me over an hour to find and remove all of it.

Even the official tool they put out for removing it just makes it worse.

Norton is crap it lagged up my computer and acted like this:

Norton:warning there could be viruses on this computer
me:I just bought it and I havn't connected to the internet.

Norton: Shutting down for updates
me: NOOO my project isn't saved!

Norton: Update
Me:*closes window*
Norton:update
Me:*closes window*
Norton:lags up the computer so I cant click anything then completes the update.

After that I got pissed off and deleted to crappy program.

Not if you're using Norton. Hell, you'd be better off just getting the free one that comes with Windows. Go do that now, and then we'll talk safety.

Norton is quite crap, but sometimes it gets the job done. Run a scan using another AV to be sure.
