A Garfield game and some SHMUP game that took place in space, that got me into playing SHMUP games! I wish I knew how to describe the game, I would love to play it again. I used to play it all of the time in Daycare...

Descent: Freespace. I got a copy free with my computer in 1998 and I adored that game. Unfortunately the disc bit the dust a few years ago and i never got another copy :(
Irecently bought Descent: Freespace at the mexican equivalent of a 99 cents store for 15 pesos (that's around a dollar) completely new! they have tons of copies of it there and you also get the expansion! that was a nice find but sadly the multiplayer servers are closed and I was not able to test that :( incidentally gog.com also has it I don't know for how much but it also incudes mods and they have Freespace 2 and with mods too so you might want to check that out
EDIT: So am I the only one who remembers Dangerous Dave? EVERYBODY I knew had it and we all played it to death and by everybody I mean everybody at my school had it because we copied it form the school's Windows 95 computers.

I'm not as old as some, only 17, but I grew up a retro-gamer, so I've got to put one of my favorite old NES titles: Paperboy. Freaking Paperboy. Delivering newspapers on looney street while dodging homicidal dogs, manholes, witches, and tornadoes. Please tell me someone else remembers this.
i remember that one. funny as hell (back then it was ) but i was very young when i played it
but my number one would be Red Alert 1. when tanya still had BLACK hair.
i slightly remember some game called MK something wich i like a lot to, and I war. Lego island 1 ( i was such a lego addict xD) most of these arent realy that old but they are some of the first games i ever played

Lemmings, C&C RA/TS, how many hours I must have wasted on these... Still have Tiberian sun and Red alert around too!

Also, some game I cdon't remember the name of, but it was graphicaly similar to neverwinter nights, and you played as Greek heros (Herecles, hipolyta - Queen of the Amazons!, Eros I think.. and a few others I forget) But I don't remember much else about it, the camera was similar to the baldurs gate camera... sadly No one seems to be able to figure it out from this poor explanation :(

Edit: Jazz Jack Rabbit 1/2 aswell, and Zoombinies! Got the CD for that right next to me.

Also, the Rayman Educational games, where you had to answer questions to progress.

Full Throttle
Sam and Max Hit the Road (still my favorite)
Tie Fighter
Outlaws
Oregon Trail
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (I was/still am a fan of old Lucas Arts Games)

For me, it was the following:
Red Baron 3D
X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter
Panzer Commander
Panzer General
C&C Red Alert
Mech Commander Gold
Microsoft Combat Flight Sim

I still have all of these, it's just that windows 7 and a quad core processor almost kill themselves trying to run them. Eventually, I may try to do a dual os setup to get these to run on a Linux shell of some type.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else remember Zone in it original iteration or the Sierra Network?

I grew up with an Apple ][+ and a stack of game disks. Some that stuck in my memory were:
Lode Runner
Dung Beetles
Conan: Hall of Volta
Taipan
Bolo
Rearguard
Sabotage
Raid Over Moscow
and a couple more that I'll add later if I remember what they were called. Bolo is the one I really wish I could play again. That game taught me the importance of backing up your important files, especially when they're on easily damaged 5.25" floppy diskettes. I never could find another copy, even back when people were still using Apple ]['s.

So I'm one of the few on the Escapist that remembers Wing Commander, eh? Fair enough, it makes me feel supremely old.

Oh yeah, did anyone else play this game called One Must Fall 2097? No? Okay then...

Finally, how many of you played Rebel Assault? None? Okay, time for me to stop cankering like an old man now.

Jill of the Jungle was a little side-scroller where you fight these evil crocs to rescue some prince, she was this scantily clad blonde. And I think the word you were looking for was Slingshot, and that game might be "Zombies ate my neighbours", but I could be wrong
Huh, never did play that game then. And yeah slingshots the word, thanks. Different game though. Sucks that I remember so very little of it. How about a 3d game where you travel through different times to do... Something. All I remember is that it was shocking graphics and you can pick up different weapons from that time and stuff. Starts off in the stone age so you can get rocks to throw at people, then a rock knife or something and in different levels you can get different weapons. Also there were bears in a few of the levels. (I thought it was called Timecop or something, but apparently there's no such game)

Silver, you deserve to be in this thread.

Also some games from the Amiga, like desert strike, but i recently completed that game in a few hours.

Other amiga games were some Cowboy game that was 2d, a other one where you threw daggers at a indian(native american) on a archery target, some pinball game, but is still to date the most advanced pinball game ive seen (there were different kinds of machines, first one was a cowboy/western theme iirc.

Oh yeah north and south :D amiga ver ofc it looks much nicer.

Torin's Passage.

I literally had forgotten about it until my sister brought it up. Took me a few days to remember the little dog thing moogle and soon as i had the name I had the game.

Lot less challenging as an adult.
Sure, it wasn't really a challenge, but it's still damn fun. The humour is still, for the most parts intact. Especially Moogle is just plain silly.

- Ski-Free (damn that Yeti)
Were you aware that you could press the 'F' key to go faster and avoid the Yeti. Because I didn't find out about that until a decade later when it was already nearly impossible to find a copy of the game.
Veldaroth said:
Ski-Free! Oh man, that game! The yeti always freaked me out, especially since I thought you weren't supposed to get past it... I only found out a few years ago that you actually CAN get past him!

Otherwise, Mario Paint, Yoshi's Island, Baldur's Gate 2, Worms, and Frogger were some of my favorite. Not very obscure, but oh well.
Heh, if you didn't find out about that, through xkcd, I think you'll enjoy this: http://xkcd.com/667/ . I know I did, after never being able to beat it either, when I got to the yeti.

Captain comic and Kingdom O magic....
I remember Captain Comic quiet vividly, was one of the very first games I ever played. I think it's also one of the last games I played which came on a floppy. Good times.

Anyway, to add something to the thread myself, I'll have to go with Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2, awesome adventure games, Desert Strike, helicopter flying game in a middle eastern setting, Moho and Lode Runner 2. The last two I made reviews for, hint hint, nudge nudge:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.259075-A-look-at-the-past-Moho#9765073 and http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.258922-A-look-at-the-past-Lode-Runner-2#9754979 if you're interested.
