I play D&D, so yeah Imma nerd
I think this would be one of those activities that would make you a nerd no matter what else you did. As far As I'm concerned you cannot be a D&D player and not be a nerd.
That said, I don't think being a nerd should be considered exclusive. You can be a nerd and still have non-nerdy interests.
Simmilarly, you don't have to be a nerd to be a gamer. The two are associated because video games more or less originate in computers, which are considered nerdy. But consoles like the Wii, or to a lesser extent the 360 have made gaming more available to non-nerds. I think of the Escapist as first and foremost a gaming site, so it seems alright to me that non-nerds should be a part.
OT: I am a nerd. I was a nerd before I played video games. I was a nerd because I was engrossed in Medieval history, greek myhology, Star Wars(and to a lesser extent Star Trek), Lord of the Rings, and everything remtely like those two. I can tell the difference between deflectors and reflectors, I keep up on what crazy novels are still being tacked on to the end of the Star Wars mythos, Heck, I call it a mythos. I still haven't managed to pin down exactly what 'vorpal' is when used as an adjective for a weapon but I do know it means something along the lines of 'better than normal, probably kills faster', I write fantasy in my spare time, I read Manga. And then there's that most integral part of nerdiness; I debate these things on internet forums with people I have no intrest in ever meeting, and whose opinions I have no reason to care about or believe.
I am nerd. You'd hear me roar, but its on cooldown.
