Instant nerd rage ensues when you say "origin good" or "steam bad" in anyway on here. So I'm not surprised so many read the title, began frothing at the mouth and became too blind with rage to actually read the article. If they did that they'd realize it's standard escapist sensationalist headline that doesn't fit the article.Phlakes said:
A sensationalist headline might read, "Notch Freakin' Loves Him Some Origin ... Mmm, Mmm Good!" not just a direct summarizing quote. Notch actually did say that he feels as though Origin is a good thing. If you chose to interpret the current headline as referring to the platform's inner mechanics as opposed to its conceptual existence, that's a product of the way you think, for better or worse, not the syntax of the sentence in question. You could be on to something if you're about to reply something similar to "But then you should have written it like ... Well yeah. The idea of an alternative digital distribution platform is a good idea. The problem is that the alternative is poorly designed and splitting up people's libraries, which people don't like to do.

one of the most non-controversial statements ive ever heard. that wasnt sarcasm, anyone who thinks it would be good if steam had no real competition is an idiot. i use steam because, to me, its the best service for pc gaming. do i wish there was an alternative? fuck yeah! i cant see myself ever using origin unless i have to, but im glad there are companies that are at least trying to compete with them
When Origin starts offering me prices that aren't shit, maybe I'll care. I've purchased games from other services in the past because it was offered for less. EA needs to learn that they need to keep up with Valve on the deals to be a real competitor.
I will agree that competition is always good. The more competition, the better a service that will be offered to entice people to use it. Meaning if Origin ever DOES become a comparable service to Steam, things will only get better for the consumer.

You know, I'd almost agree with the man, but considering Origin is a trash heap of a system, it's not the kind of competition we really need. It's like pitting one store that caters to their customer's needs and another that slams the door on your ass as you leave. Sure, Steam could use some competition to keep things interesting, but EA's Origin is not what the industry needs. We already have Microsoft's debacle-of-a-platform...we don't need EA to roll out the red carpet for another piece of junk.
Competition is always a good thing. Unfortunately at this point one of the biggest competitors to Steam isn't the overpriced crap on Origin. Its Amazon.
