Also, last I checked they have some pretty spectacular counter-terrorist teams that have helped out in some very serious situations (don't recall exactly, but I think there was an Olympics where a bunch of people got taken hostage, rescued by spectral Rainbow Six badasses and were extradited to Canada for no particular reason before being sent home the the states).

I wonder if people are freaking out about this because the game's not trying to masquerade as a fictional war and is actually about current events? Think about it, nobody cares when games let you play as the nazi's, and the Modern Warfare series mostly gets away with it* because it's set in fictional wars that are unlikely to happen, despite the similar Middle-Easterns-are-bad-guys themes.
