I guess the first question I want to ask before I start throwing out ideas is "what is the RPG Maker capable of?" It would kinda help to know what your limitations are.

A game where you have to suplex god!

Apparently god is sick of people saying he sucks and is holding an open wrestling tournament in heaven. The winner gets to be god.

Sure you can criticize me for just using my life story instead of an original plot but dammit, this needs to be made into a game.
I can see it now... "The Souplex Story: The man who pile-drived his way to being a God." It's simple, it's elegant, and it has "give me an Oscar" written all over it.

By default, the game is a Dragon-Warrior Style RPG, where random encounters appear as enemies, you are graphically represented as as box of stats on the bottom of the screen, and you have prompts like Attack/Defend/Item/Magic/Run, etc. Although the game is fully customizable, given the right level of skill involved. I could make it an FPS, given enough work. (There's no way in hell I'm doing that much work, by the way.)

Depending what I decide, it could push the project back a few years. But if I use most of the defaults without delving too far into the custom, I could probably do anything you could want out of an SNES-era RPG, like the Breath of Fire, Earthbound, the like.

So, the stratosphere's the limit, given I'm driven enough to make the effort. What were you thinking, regardless of limitations. And, barring that, what ideas for a more down-to-earth thing?

I like subverting and reversing tropes to make plots. For instance, you're out to destroy the world, the main character is the Dark Lord, the heroes are all incompetents, the only real threat to you is the damsel in distress. And your theme song is "Killer Queen," because that's what I'm listening to as I write this. Give everybody incredibly ridiculous names, weapons, etc, and then treat it all with deadly seriousness.

Example screenshot:

You are being attacked by the most dangerous assassin in the world, Mr. Goodypants. He is wielding a crossbow that shoots venomous snakes. What do you do?

I would like a game where you are a ninja, but after seeing your sensei kill one of your best friends, run away and become a pirate, but get killed and become a zombie. So just to wrap up, you would be a ninja pirate zombie, and there could be two different storylines based on revenge of the person who killed you when you were a pirate, and of your sensei.

Make an Escapist game. Enemies could be Trolls, Failboys, Fanboys, etc. Your fighting the evil EA (or some comical mispelling to avoid being sued) Empire, which is buying up every business in the land and selling poor quality products in their place. Bosses's could be themed after bad videogames. And maybe at the end you find out the real big bad is a star from a GOOD game, trying to lower the bar so their fame lives on forever.

Final Bossfight, Gordon Freeman. C'mon.

Really big dungeons, with parts that make Zelda puzzles look like child's play! I've always found most traditional RPG's to have monotonous dungeons that make me want to fall asleep. And if you're doing random battles, don't just put them throughout a dungeon, make them a challenge in certain rooms of dungeons.

That's my two cents anyway.

Newb Question: Wait, it this like a tabletop RPG creator, or a video game RPG creator?
Oh, and there should be random encounter Easter eggs of some kind, like, you walk through the wilderness and find a silhouette hanging from the rafter of an old mill by some unknown technology.

If your setting it in the medieval times make some Monty Python references. Like have a boss be that bunny that guards the cave, sorry I cant think of the exact name but it's in MP and the holy grail. Have there be an item, the holy hand grenade, with the description that they have in the movie.

Oh, and several of the characters should be people on the site, like me I'm perfect as a pirate captain!(Boy, that was a bad attempt to get into a game.)

Oh! and special summons can be the moderators and admins of the site.

It might be an idea to have a quick surf of some of the big RPs we've done just to plagiarise any good bits. It would probably be a lot of shit sifting, but I reckon you could pull a fair bit of humour or possibly inspiration (not that any of us were that good) out of them at least.

The best ones I can think of, that I've been part of at least:

More serious ones:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.54478?page=1 - WH40k
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.57201?page=1 - Zombies! Although quite a lot of tongue in cheek for this one, earlier at least.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.61537?page=1 - Cyberpunk. Mostly serious, but I like this one.

And for sheer humour, the 4Chanian wars has some great lines - http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.72188?page=1

I can't give any really good suggestions, that's about as much use as I can be.

I'm planning so many easter eggs in this game, it's unreal. I think you'll like it.

And it's a video game RPG Maker. If I had any of my old projects, I'd link you just so you'd have an idea of what I'm more-or-less shooting for, but they all got lost on countless re-formats.

Although, since I've been getting a lot of questions about it. I could hammer out a demo that will give about 20 minutes of gameplay, and find a host for it. If anyone's willing to host me (Probably about 1/2 a MB, tops.), I'll be glad to post a quick demo so everyone can see about what I'll be doing.

So, should I make this demo? And would anyone be willing to be a dedicated host? (If not, I can probably do MegaUpload, or RapidShare or something.)

Well, I have my on-going idea for what could by my magnum opus, but I don't really plan on sharing it. I can probably throw out a few random ideas for thing if I stop to think about them. Feel free to fire off a PM at some point if you want to know more.
