I'm in the military, and though it probably won't change much of anything about where I work, I am concerned about having gay men on the front lines, ESPECIALLY in the special forces. Unit cohesion is a matter of life and death, and while I don't know if it would cause any problems, I'm just a bit concerned that similar issues that prevent women from serving in those areas would come up with gay men there. Not the same, but something similar. Nobody should die because they're forced to work alongside someone who distracts them. Again, not saying that is absolutely going to happen, but it's just something I think should be addressed.
Also no offence, but you must have a pretty high opinion of yourself to think that fully trained gay soldiers are going to be distracted by you. Gay men have just as much self control as straight men, much more even considering how they have to hide their orientation most of the time. Also, they've been serving on the front lines with you all along, you just don't know who they are yet.

It's about time as far as i'm concerned.

What? Gay's where banned in the US Military? Hell, they've always been allowed to serve in the British Armed Forces? Most of them are bloody good soldiers, especially at the admin side of things! The guy in my squad during basic helped us get our rooms perfect for most inspections ( I say most, because the Sergeant/Corporal WILL find something to beast you about...)

Well, color me apathetic. Now that Obama's fixed the gays-in-the-military problem, maybe he can get around to fixing the country he's leading. A guy can dream can't he?
Is this not VERY much relative to what YOU consider the problem with your country? For gay servicemen, this is as huge issue, and would certainly count as "fixing the country", in the name of tolerance and people's freedom to be who they are. SO many times have I heard americans complain about presidents "not fixing the country", but it's always that "FIX OUR COUNTRY". There are A LOT of things to deal with. Are you talking about the economy? Crime? Schools? All of this has to be fixed, but one man can only do so many things at a time.
The OP asked my opinion and I gave it. Sorry, I'm not gay and not ever going to join the military, so forgive me if allowing gays to announce that they're gay while in active service doesn't restore my faith in the Obama presidency. Especially when we are now trillions in debt, about to default on our loans in less than 2 weeks, and in order to encourage businesses in this country and make the average citizen's life easier, he wants to raise taxes. So YEAH in my opinion, Obama needs to stop SCREWING around and fix things.

Honestly, this might help the soldiers form better unit/squad coherison.
That's a possibility as well. Rather than wondering and assuming who is and isn't gay, straight up knowing who is may allow them to get past it and focus better. But as I've said, I haven't seen any studies done on this, so I don't know the effects, and THAT is what concerns me.

That... that has nothing to do with what my point is. I work in an office, bro, and I'm in the Navy. I'm talking about the front lines, which is pretty far from where I am. I never mentioned myself or my feelings about gays and I specifically stated that I know gays aren't going to be even remotely like the stereotypes on TV.

So, Jack the Potato, assuming you werent trolling/joking/whatever im open to listen to what you say and exactly what the differences are. If it turns out to be bullshit, I will let you know.
I appreciate that, but I already explained my thoughts to others in this thread. I'd rather not type it all again.

For a country that insist on bringing "freedom" to other countries, you seem to care very little about your own people's freedom..
