Assault weapons are over the top anyway you look at it who the fuck is going to rob you rambo? I agree handguns for protection are a good thing but fucking rifles! Thats not defending yourself or keeping your family safe infact its providing acess to a very lethal weapon and giving civies the capacity to hold off/injure military and armed police forces. And i dont buy this to protect from the government crap bollochs if you felt you were opressed you should have uprised by now no you have had the same fucking system for years.

No, I think we should give the American public as many highly lethal weapons as possible - the do, after all, need the power to over-throw their government if it turns bad, and given their army's current tech that would take quite some effort!

As an absolute minimum B52s should be made available for purchase, along with tomahawk missiles, battle-tanks, anti-armour rocket launchers, plastic explosive, LMGs, HMGs, land-mines, and the latest automated kill-bot and biological weapon from the RnD boys - otherwise the civilian population wouldn't stand a chance! It's the only way to uphold the second amendment.

Less access to guns, less murder. Win-win to me.

I don't really care if you're a Gun Nut, that's a waste of a Perk in Fallout 3, imo.

Of course Obama is talking about banning assault weapons. Next, he'll ban hunting firearms too. It's one of the steps needed for total control of a people by a socialist government. It's hard to rule the people when they can still fight back. This kind of thing is exactly why the writers of the Constitution put in the amendment to protect the citizens right to keep and bear arms. They'd lived in countries in Europe where the crowns didn't allow them to have weapons and didn't want to have to endure that in the New World. What they didn't forsee, was that in the future, the politicians and far too many of the citizens would choose to ignore the Constitution and give up their rights anyway. The U.S. is going to turn into the very sort of socialist state that it's founders escaped from in the first place. Sad really.
Do you a) know your basic American history or b) understand what 'socialism' actually means?

A) The founders did not escape from a "socialist state." They rebelled against a British monarchy which was taxing them without representation--as in, they were being taxed but had exactly zero say because they had no elected representation in the British Parliament, which they felt denied them their rights as Englishmen, and were therefore illegal. It was NOT a "socialist state." For one thing, "socialism" in the modern sense didn't even develop until the 19th century.

B) You already live in a partially "socialist state." That is why you have a fire department and police, among other things. You do not want a purely capitalistic state. "Socialism" is the new "communism" boogeyman for the uniformed. Personally, I'm all for this "socialist state" Obama supposedly wants to make the US into, if it means universal health insurance and getting overpowered penis-extension guns off the streets.

if you need an assault rifle because you are not skilled enough for other styles then you just shouldnt have a gun at all. I am against all publically owned firearms but its gonna be impossible to rid america of them all. Starting with assault rifles seems a good idea to me.

For those that want to learn more this is an excellent visual presentation of the problem, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjM9fcEzSJ0

The term assault weapons is used to drum up images of firearms that are already illegal, AK-47s M-16s and the like are commonly referred to as Assault Rifles. Automatic military weapons are already illegal for all but those who carry an extremely hard to get license. The last time they were banned Congress defined "assault weapons" as semi-automatic weapons with certain military-style secondary features such as flash suppressors, bayonet lugs, and pistol grips.

People may contend that pistols are too hard to use, and that assault rifles should be allowed for those of us not skilled enough to use a pistol effectively.

Are you for or against a ban on assault weapons?
Because giving access to rapid fire to these kinds of people is somehow a good thing?

Yes, i would be for a ban on assault weapons.
It's not necessary at all, however you will be screwed when the zombie apocalypse comes.
Automatic weapons are a poor choice to use against zombies. But I digress, let's not turn this into a zombie thread; we've got about three hundred of them floating around in the back pages.

How bout we take away all guns and give everyone rocket launchers wouldn't that be sweet
Well, it's a solid plan. Who the hell would invade a country where everyone had a rocket launcher each?

More serious side: I find the idea that a citizien should have access to assault rifles kind of stupid. I know, not everyone will be accepted, blah, blah, but my point still stands.

There is a reason so many people are beeing shot in the USA, because guns are way to easy to get a hold of there..

Stricter laws should be enforced upon guns..
A popular but false assumption. 50 years ago guns laws were looser and the rate of gun/violent crime was lower. There are other factors that account for the increase in gun crime.

As has been stated - why do you need an assault rifle anyway...its not needed for hunting, for protection - theres no reason for any civillian to own one and as such I hope this ban goes through - even if I don't live in the USA.
First of all who are you to decide what people need? And yes there are good reasons for civilians to own them.

The better armed a population is, the less likely they are to be oppressed by their government. The would be tyrants are afraid of getting shot, which is why a well armed population is a good thing.

In Australia they first banned semi auto rifles, then pump action shotguns, then most handguns. In England they banned semi auto rifles, then handguns and made the rest difficult to get but this didn't stop the rise in gun crime.

Democrat politicians love gun control but will lose control of congress if they pass a gun ban. I'm not sure if it will happen soon so I can't blame people for buying more guns right now.

but come on! Why would anyone feel entitled to carry a f*cking assault rifle??? Or simply a pistol? Hell, even china doesn't allow it's civilians to own firearms, what kind of backward nation has their leaders swear on religion and gives their civilians ASSAULT RIFLES?!?!?!

jeeeez, never ceases to amaze me...
China is a communist dictatorship and not surprisingly has strict gun laws. In my country many people believe in the right to self defense, where in contrast many leftists seem to be more concerned about the criminals safety and/or believe people are too incompetant to use guns. Gun control has been used by many evil governments to disarm people before persecuting them. The Soviet Union, Khmer Rouge, Turkey against the Armenians, nazi Germany.... If you think it couldn't happen where you live, you are living in denial. Positions of power are filled by power hungry people, some with very authoritarian ambitions. An armed population is an obstacle they want removed.

For the ban!
Apparently, a hand gun isn't enough protection for your average American these days.
What I'm really angry about is the proposed WMD ban. I mean how are we supposed to protect our families from burglars without a personal Hydrogen bomb ?

Would banning them stop them from being used by civilians? Probably not. I don't know why this is an attention-getter. Guns have been banned in Mexico for ages, but they still use 'em a lot. :-/
