Heard massive hype regarding the game from friends and around the internet.
I enjoyed oblivion for the bulk of the hours, mainly towards the beginning/middle stages of the game (If that makes sense).

But by the time I finished doing all the side quests I lost motivation to even finish the main story quest as the boredom kicked in fast. Not much else to say that hasn't already been said by the majority of the posts above.

I got really pissed off when I found that the Orcs and Nords are voiced by the same person, as are the Khajiit and Argonian, not sure about the rest, maybe Dark, Wood and High Elves.

EDIT: Also I didnt like that there was 1 wolf everywhere but not a pack to be seen, if you know what I mean, the creatures could be improved to, say ACT LIKE REAL CREATURES I'm annoyed at seeing pack animals running around by thereselves. Also I dont understand how shooting someone in the arm(without poison or anything, just an arrow) would EVER kill them immediately.

Edit II: ugh forgot to put in "in the arm" /facepalm

A lot of the mods, in fact all of the main overhall mods (ooo, mmm, francescos) took care of the wild life and animal problems, you can see packs of wolves attacking deer, jaguars, guars etc...
And it is just a game, people like to be super strong archers who can kill a person by shooting them in the little toe. All of the criticism is coming from people who didnt mod the game it appears. Oblivion is great, but i couldnt play it unmodded.

I really enjoyed Oblivion. It kept me playing until almost every quest had been completed - twice. I find some of the criticism for Oblivion unreasonable (even though that might derive from my love for The Elder Scrolls-games being unreasonable) as I, for example, didn't even notice the small amount of voice actors before my Orc was already at level 30 and grandmaster of half the guilds of the game. This being said, Oblivions biggest fault is it being criminally short compared to Morrowind, which I loved to even more disturbing degrees. Also the setting is more boring, but I won't rip at it for this, seeing as it's derived from the lore, which is far older than the game itself.

If I should ever name the best game ever it would be Morrowind. I can't think of any criticism for it that isn't brushed aside by the sheer awesomeness of the combination of an original setting, an exciting main quest and enough material to drown in.

GTA IV is the best game ever.

I played it through once when it first came out and now I'm playing it through again. The game doesn't get old. It's awesome.

Oblivion is just too complicated with all the plants, weapons, and magic. Plus having to sleep to level up is a little weird.

Nothing beats car jacking fools and running down 'working women'.

No offense but, in the words of Simon Amstell: "Man, I wish I was a cliche ridden tit!"

Oh my... it seems I made a mistake, yes it is "Yarp"

God I love that movie.

Guess I just had a stupid moment...
Yarp.
"Angel will not be getting up then?"

"...narp?"

"Good..."
This has nothing to do with Lurch, but I still found it entertaining.
NWA member (I can't remember his name) "What are you going to do? Just walk in and arrest the whole village?" "Not exactly." It's only funny if you've seen the movie though.

Am I the only one that thinks that it's gonna be near impossible to top this game? I've played Fallout 3 and the ending is disappointing to say the least.

Just looking for anyone else who loved the fourth installment of the elder scrolls series.
I wouldn't say its the best game ever, but its definitely a close 3rd on my list.

I will say that I haven't spent so much time on one game before. Once I had finished the main quest line, Nights of the Nine, Shivering Isles, and all(yes all) side quests, I was up to level 35 and had spent 542 hours on it.

I think I'm the only person who just couldn't get into Oblivion...I just didn't have any fun playing it. It was one of the least immersive games ever made.

Not that I hate that game style, I'm still playing Fallout 3 to this day, can't wait for Mothership Zeta.

I enjoyed it, but I thought Morrowind was better. Oblivion wasn't immersive enough, which is a shame because if it was, I'd be agreeing with you.
I agree, there are some things in Oblivion that are better, but for the most part Morrowind is better.

I found Oblivion (and in turn Fallout 3) to be nowhere near being the best game ever.

These games lack anything in the way of direction or purpose, if you are on a vital quest to save to world and it's peoples from immiment doom then why have you stopped off to join the local gentleman's club/settle a domestic dispute/appease an ancient god?

People who defend this will often state that it's not the leveling up and the rewards that you play the game for, but the experience and the journey. I call critisism to this due to the simple fact that anyone who shells out between £20-£50 for a game just to travel and see the world has severe social issues and could be referred to as a 'social pariah', when normal people want to travel and see the world they go to other countries like France or Italy to see the famous landmarks and bask in the serene beauty of the world (unless you are french or italian in which case you go elsewhere and do the same), they don't buy a game and stay at home in a darkened room.

Since this justifacation can be thrown out the window what other reward are we given for playing these games? 1000 gamerpoints that don't really do anything and a mediocre set of equipment and stats that shouts 'I'm not a people person' (in all fairness neither am I, but there is a point where it becomes unhealthy and a tad bit frightening).
To me it seems as though you are criticizing the game for being non-linear and having good side quests. Last time I checked, that was the point of an RPG.

It was wonderful, but yes, they can improve on it for TES5:

Fix the combat - level scaling enemies were done better in Fallout 3, and taking 40-50 hits to kill a goblin was not fun

Fix the friendly AI - no more running into your attacks and being suicidal

More variety in the locations (Oblivion gates and Ayleid ruins got real old...)

Fix the voice assignment (spare a coin, sir - thank you kind sir)

Fix the omniscient guards AI

Enhance the engine to fix the framerate

Oblivion was a vast disappointment as compared to Morrowind - in my opinion, of course. Morrowind had enormous character, and the immersion was astonishing. Oblivion felt like "generic fantasy RPG #X" and had nothing new or interesting going on, I personally didn't feel that way; it fixed a few flaws from Morrowind (the ability to cast spells while fighting and regenerating mana being the two biggest ones; the latter could be modded) but as long as it has Morrowind to be compared to, Oblivion can't even contend for the spot of "best game ever."

Personally, I'd put Populous: The Beginning somewhere up there in the contestant list. Morrowind too. Oblivion doesn't make the cut. But that's what opinions are, I suppose.

Oblivion did a horrable representation of bears.

In real life, if you were wielding a sword and attacked a bear, you would be mauled to death.

In real life, I'm not a 6"3 blue lizard-man with the ability to hop over the surface of the water.

In terms of real-life fuckery, the bears got off a damn sight better than kung-fuu giant-mudcrab.
