Just a little something I've noticed about the escapist is that you see a lot of people chiming in with the "I'm bi so this, this, and this ^.^"

The fact that I've always found this slightly annoying aside (Seriously, what the fuck does your sexual preference have to do with what kind of food you like?) Its always struck me as strange that we see more bisexuals proclaiming themselves than just straight up gay people doing it. It was my understanding that there are significantly more people identifying themselves as gay than as bisexual.

So, anyone have an explanation for this?

tl;dr: You see more bisexuals on the escapist than gays. Why?

im not really sure why, but maybe there is a slight fear of being ridiculed for being gay (which is wrong) and they play it safe by going bi. that oooooor they may think that being bi makes them know more if they are in an argument. again im not really sure. but i get what youre saying

Never really thought of it like that to be honest but you're right.
All of my friends here are usually at least somewhat bi and I'm an omni so yeah.
Not really something that crossed my mind though

My two cents? Its going to sound kinda homophobic, but I really don't intend to. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Most of us are gamers, and as such we don't exactly do well in the dating field, but by becoming bisexual, we supposedly double our chances at a relationship. At least, I think thats why theres an influx in bisexuals in gaming communities, I just know I'm going to get chewed out for this, but yeah.

I am bi, and the amount of times I used that in arguments or explaining my preferences / tastes (not related to sex, herp derp), is equal to 0

Did not quite notice the sexual preferences of others here though

Can't speak for everyone, but I feel somewhere along the lines Bisexualism devolved into a middle-school level of fad. It carries the ring of someone who is either a wagon-rider or just insecure about their sexuality.

I think its also because the escapist is very diverse and liberal place, which is why so many express their sexuality.
I wouldn't pin it down to games tho.

So omni's are the ones that go for men, women, non-genders and both-genders (can't remember the word) right?

Because minorities more often entertain the idea that they should make themselves heard loudly and proudly.

Often with reason, but that's another story for another day.

Excuse me, but omni?
As in you love everything or...*confused*

OT: Bi is easily considered more cool than gay, also there are the teens who are unsure about their sexuality. (including me but I never bring it out)

I'm fairly certain omni includes Trans and Hems, but they might be able to explain it a bit better.

I don't think there are many more gay people that bisexuals or any other way around... I think it's because bi people tend to get taken a little less seriously compared to gay guys on some topics. That's my little theory, anyway.

Maybe Bi's are just gays who do not fully accept that they are homosexual, so they take the middle ground.

Just my opinion. I've had this discussions with many of my gay friends and they all believe it's this too.

Some people just want to be something other than normal so they see bisexual and just label themselves and feel like they're better than the rest of the population. Not saying that all bisexuals are trying to be something different, I'm not. Some people in my grade level 7-9 are saying their bisexual because it's a fad. (apparently) I enjoy video games and I happen to be bisexual, I'm not going to flaunt my sexuality around as an argument. (though my avatar kinda ruins that) Besides, if it helps, I didn't choose to be bisexual, I don't control it, I was born this way. (please try not to make that statement into a Lady GaGa joke) People don't control who their attracted to, I like men and women, if you have a problem with that fuck off. I'm okay with who I am, and you can't make me change that. As for why there isn't a lot of bisexuals on the Escapist, I guess it's not that big a website, it doesn't get as much exposer like Youtube or Facebook.

Well, a few years ago it was definitely seen as the cool thing to do by some people to just say you were bi. Not that I think people can't be, but that was definitely the case, and I think it still goes on somewhat. Although if I'm honest I think asexuality is the "new bi" in that regard.

Okay, I have to ask. When did that one come up? XD

OT: Personally I've only seen people mention their sexuality when it has some kind of pertinence to the thread. Usually the topic pertaining to something related to romance, sexuality, attraction or otherwise to give a sense of context to their post. I don't think there's that many bi people on the Escapist. More than most forums perhaps, but have you considered the possibility that you're seeing the same profile names cropping up again? Why does it crop up so often? Perhaps it's because they got more of a hospitable response from this community, this could be one of the few places wherein they feel comfortable in discussing their sexuality and can show pride in expressing who they are. Also, I'm not going to tell you my sexuality here since that's probably going to color your opinion of my post.

A lot of bi's aren't really bi, they're just doing in to impress chicks (if they're guys, vice versa if they're girls). It's become a bit of a fad, really.

There are legit ones out there though, it's just sad they've become undermined by those retards.

I tend to say bi just to avoid confusion but...

Here you go :3 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pansexuality]

And I will agree with you on that. Most people for some reason tend to see "bi" as being "cooler" than gay or even straight. Not sure why that is but... whatever. If it's true, then good for them for realising their sexuality.
If they're confused, then let them experiment.
If they're just trying to fit in and be considered cool then... oh well. So what? Not like it's much of a bother to anyone. It can just get annoying.

Oh woops, didn't see your quote.

Yes, that would be correct, I suppose. It just means... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pansexuality
That :p

I only use it when discussing sex, sexually related topics and/or political/religious issues directly associated with sexual preference. It's more to get it cleared away then to make a point on the subject.
