I hate it when comics adopt that "Hey let's be artsy by drawing everywhere and make it look like the artists had seizures while doing their work" thing.
Ugh. It's the same artist who did Silent Hill: Dying Inside, isn't it? It makes me terribly, terribly sad that Valve had the poor taste to sponsor this...
Because as we all know there's only one person who draws like that in the entire world

The artwork looks like Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth ate an Apple booklet and barfed it out.

Damn it, Valve! Ever since you started advertising Portal 2 my anticipation has been steadily declining!

It's not like it's supposed to show off that the character's point of view is distorted or anything... IT'S ART FOR ART'S SAKE, OBVIOUSLY!

I've got nothing against the idea that it is meant to be an artistic decision, hell, I'm all for creativity in the presentation of narrative, etc.

But I think that the style is a tad bit ugly, confusing, and overall detrimental to what they want to show. I like my comics to have the standard linear panel format, so I can deduct exactly what is going on, without being confused or baffled by what they're trying to show me by having to skirt to a certain part of the page. And I was told as a little boy always to colour within the lines. I hate it that I got smacked by doing what this guy is making.

Yes, yes, I hold petty grudges and I like things to be boringly straight and linear. Sue me.

The companion cube talks to him! (Pic 3-5) That is awesome. Adds a bit more depth to his obsession with the inanimate cube.

It does look like a happier version of the Arkham Asylum comic though but I guess it fits as both comics detail the life of a mad person so the chaotic style works.

...Didn't they already settle this? That whole scene in Portal with a cake sitting on a table, with racks and racks of cores? And we do we need to focus on the guy who went batshit, and became obsessed with a weighted block?

As said, its all part of getting in to the mindset he is going through (being slightly crazy that is), however i find it more important to tell it probable he is crazy rather than making a "artistic" mess that confuses the reader (like panel disorder etc.)
There is nothing wrong with straight and linear, as long it sends out the message right :)

Hmmm...as far as portal 2 goes, I would love to play it. I dont think it's worth the sixty dollar price tag, tho. GRgh, I may just watch a playthrough on youtube and save some money.
$60?
WOW you yanks are unlucky, £32 here in the UK :p

And those pictures, however good they are are going to give me nighmarers for months.
Retailers in Australia have it for $110 AUS on consoles and $80 AUS on PC. Which is why I went 'screw you' and pre purchased for $45 on Steam. Fortuneately Valve don't pull the bullshit that games are priced differently based on region.
Please tell me that AUS $ are worth less than US $?

The Silent Hill comic root?
This is what made the Silent Hill comics so bad, the fact that the illustratons look about as appealing as a fucking dead badger, and they have so many pointless, sketchy, ugly lines.

Not everyone got smacked for painting outside the lines and sometimes you end up with immense artistic beauty by ignoring those lines and letting the colours flow... other times you end up with a blob of colours. It can depend!

Indeed. 'Tis one of the beauties of subjectivity.

Page 1 shows the old style buttons on the floor, whilst page 3 shows the new style buttons. Maybe the comic will explain that to us.

Indeed no! Australia dollars are worth fractionally MORE than US dollars (about 1.04 USD currently). It's just that australian retails are GIGANTIC DOUCHEBAGS who think australian consumers are too fucking stupid to realise that a price which was reasonable when 1AUD=.8USD is not reasonable now.

Oh, and they like to whine like little bitches about how unfair it is that online stores are forcing them out of business and that they cannot compete.

And so, most sane people - especially when buying a game from valve - buy it via steam, or off amazon UK or US or similar. The later two especially when buying a game from the douchenozzles who try to sell games on steam at massively inflated prices, now that steam doesn't let you just claim to be in a different country.

...GLaDOS has a last name? Also, I thought Ratman killed his companion cube.

Art style does look interesting though. $60? How long is this comic?

Sorry but that art style is fucking ugly as hell. I'm not an artist mind you, I'm just speaking my mind.

Thanks Valve, you ruined what could have been an otherwise interesting side project with shitty artwork.
