That's why he made this thread...?

Anyway, it's supposedly hit my school today, so I'll be waiting to find out for sure if I am, or not going to school tomorrow.
Im sorry you have to die.

England have it cos some dick honeymooners went to Cancun where the main problem is. Silly burgers. Then a girl in the south west of england contracted it somehow and they've had to shut her school down. People in London and Edinburgh have got it. Haha, I'm right in the middle of them both.

New Zealand have it cos of some school kids going to some place in Mexico.

But it's summer in a few months, so I guess it might die down a little bit and give all the big health guys chance to make vaccinations and stuff.
What about all those people who are now going to have to pay cancellation fees on their holiday flights out of paranoia surrounding the soon-to-be-pandemic.
Well they should've thought about that before they booked their holiday ;D

And a level 5 now? I'll only panic when I hear it's infected someone close to my town.

HILARIOUS as that was, things have changed. I'm sure they'll be speaking differently about it tonight, especially since there has been a fatality outside of Mexico.

Well, to be fair, the person who died was a two year old Mexican girl (who, mind you, was just as likely at that age to die from a normal flu infection) who happened to be receiving medical treatment for the disease in Houston, from what I read.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but swine flu is just that a flu, it's nothing special. The only reason it's killed people is because most of those people were poor and couldn't get proper health care and ended up dying because they were too poor.
It's not just about deaths.

Think what having half your population off work with flu will do to the economy? Especially in this recession.

Already, think about the number of flights that are going to be cancelled. Who's going to go out into public places (Eg. Malls, high streets, Restaurants an cafes) with a pandemic floating around?

I'm sure that the World Health Organisation have damn good reasons for enforcing level five status globally.

I was about to verbally bitchslap you for that, but you might be onto something.

MEXICO: Lower standard of Healthcare
USA: You have to pay to not die.
UK: NHS and no one has died yet (even with some shitty standards in some hospitals)

I'm not really very aware with the others diseases but from the looks of it this one is spreading really fast. Only 2 days ago it was secluded to Mexico and U.S.A and now it's in Europe, Australia, Russia and New Zealand already?

That's way too fast.

It killed tons of people in Mexico just like that. I really hope it doesn't kill more and that the people casualties were weakened or elderly people but it looks bad compared to those.

Officially, level 5 status is when there is human-to-human transmission in at least two countries.

We've gone from Phase Four to Phase Five.

As far as I can discern...

Phase One = No idea

Phase Two = No idea

Phase Three = Disease transfers from animal to human, but not from human to human

Phase Four = Disease transfers from human to human in one country in one region

Phase Five = Same as Four, but with two or more countries

Phase Six = Global Pandemic

Phase Z = Zombies

At any rate nothing so far has truly convinced me this is a world ending disease, the news said that 150 so people died in Mexico, but only 18 or so were confirmed swine flu victims. Around 2000 people are infected there and 18 out of 2000 is 0.9%. That and considering that this is Mexico, where the disease first sprang up, taking them by surprise and they don't have access to the medications most countries do, and they have the most severe strain of the disease. So far I see it as a cause for concern, but not for panic.
