Unfortunately, I can't give you any proof I do. You'd just have to take my word. And it is the flu, not specifically swine.

At any rate nothing so far has truly convinced me this is a world ending disease, the news said that 150 so people died in Mexico, but only 18 or so were confirmed swine flu victims. Around 2000 people are infected there and 18 out of 2000 is 0.9%. That and considering that this is Mexico, where the disease first sprang up, taking them by surprise and they don't have access to the medications most countries do, and they have the most severe strain of the disease. So far I see it as a cause for concern, but not for panic.

If one of those would have to be one of your friends for you to care about 36 000 000 deaths, then Dunbar's Number is better proven than I though.

According to my bio teacher lots of people died from a previous flew similar to this one because of a Cytokine Storm which is where your immune system basically kills you because it over works itself. Basically it tells all your white blood cells to go fight the infection, usually in the lungs with the flu, and when the immune system kills it, it just keeps going. And basically your immune system turns into flu like symptoms that kill you by filling your lungs with fluid. Scary.

Good thing I've been keeping my immune system down via alcohol consumption
