I can't take it anymore. Michael Bay [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.161340] was bad enough. But this is it. If this happens, Hollywood is going too far. They have to be stopped. If I want to watch any more characters who defined my childhood assassinated while my adult eyes watch in horror that is what Scooby Doo hentai is for.

Time for the revolution?
woah, whats the problem with a 5th film? i hope they make a 6th too

in the lost Ark we had [spoiler/] at the end of the film ghosts from a magic box, killing Nazi's
in last crusade we had [spoiler/]invisible bridges and the actual cup of Mr Christ, aaaaand Indy's dad as a main character.
how is an [spoiler/]alien skull and Indys son as a main character
any less believable or enjoyable than that?

take off your rose tinted nostalgia glasses and enjoy the adventure
God I am so fucking sick of you people thinking it's always because of nostalgia! Not only that but he didn't even say anything about the aliens and crystal skull ruining the movie either.

The first 3 movies did those fantasy scene's really well, it was amazing and something that will stay with you for the rest of your life while the spaceship and aliens in the end of the 4th was not only hardly interesting, it also didn't make any bloody sense. You got what's her face bringing back all their belongings expecting a reward and they obliterate her or something.

If you think it's a good movie, fine, but don't start targeting people who don't like it and use that shitty excuse of an argument.
actually, the OP didn't give much of a reason for hating it.
you made some interesting points about the 4th film, but I can't really be bothered discussing it because God I am so fucking sick of you people with a shitty attitude.
Good then be a sissy. Also read it through like I had a happy tone, hypocrite.

You can target people but don't use that shit-hole argument. It's always used in these threads and it may work on people who just say "oh I did't see it because it had this and this in it" but otherwise it's just missing the point.
be a sissy? what is it about internet anonymity that makes people such as yourself feel it's appropriate to be so rude? i thought i'd escaped this level of immaturity when i swapped facebook groups for escapist.

just tried reading yours like a happy tone, still cant see you being fucking sick of people like me as friendly.
at the end of the day, all i wanted was an enjoyable debate, not rantings from someone such as yourself who finds it far easier to be offensive towards me than friendly
Your still a sissy and it's not internet anonymity that can piss me off, it's seeing the same ignorance everyday. It just amazes me sometimes.

Also I could say your first post was ranting so expect the same shit to come your way when you say anyone who doesn't like this movie has "rose tinted nostaligia glasses" on.

You want a nice friendly debate, instead going straight to ignorance ask "why doesn't people like this movie?" or something like that.

I didn't mind the forth one. The others were better but, who can blame Harrison for wanting to keep one of his most epic characters going?

She said she wanted to 'know it all', well she got to learn about death first hand since giving her every single piece of information basically overloaded her circuits.
It's a Wishmaster theme, 'Be careful what you wish for'. Especially since the character was evil.
I was thinking something like that but I shouldn't have to fill in the gaps.

It's just a popular type of hate, nothing scary. It's also a hyped hate as well, "A sequal to one of the greatest movie triliogy's ever" and it turns out to be as good as Disaster Movie.

There were a couple of things that ruined it for me. One would be ruining the legendary ending of the Raiders of the Lost Arc by going straight to there at the beginning with no epic value at all.

Two would have to be Shia Labouf (however you spell it) and nick naming him as Mutt, also a lot of the scene's he was in were extremely corney and made a family film more into something childish.

Three was the fact that they made it into an uninteresting action film with horrbile CGI like from Eraser, and I actually preferred Eraser witch is even sadder.

And Four is the characters and the story just sucked. Indy runs into his son and wife and there was no catching up or anything, there was nothing in this film that made me care the least.

Did you hear about the possibility of a fourth Spider-man movie? I don't know if I'm willing to watch either.

sorry you lose a ton of credibility and objectivity when trying to complain about the series. the reason is you think about and watch the original ones with the glasses of nostalgia and they taint the image of what the movies were

in other words you actually think the movies are something different than what they actually are and when you see the newer ones you expect to be a kid again. here's some news for you, it's not going to happen, you aren't a kid and you probly weren't even born when they first came out either

I officially lost interest in the movie when they mentioned aliens. I was on board for the hole skull-of-shiny and and the evil KGB, but no aliens. Indy was and will always be an archaeologist. Every other movie was relatively grounded in truth.
yes cause the box full of spirits, a bunch of shiny mystical stones and a cup that granted immortality in one cave is so much better than aliens

also you should go focus on what Indiana Jones is about and where Lucas got the idea from. then go see how aliens and the KGB actually fit him perfectly
I had a mad laugh watching the new indie movie; but I watched all the other three right before going to the cineama, and it was my first time seeing any indie movie. So I don't have this odd fanboyish nostalgia.

Another Indie movie- Hooraay!

I think its what come of having a great franchise and years on making a good/average sequel film.
If crystal skull didn't have the other 3 films to live up to, i think it might have been received better. this is the internet after all, alot of opinions do come in extremes

Yep. I lose credibility. Read up, read the responses to this, and then you will see just how much credibility I have lost. I get that you aren't fond of me Cleverlymadeup, but wandering around from thread to thread like this with snippy little comments isn't the best way of dealing with that.

The old movies are something different. They were fun for reasons which are lost on you. They never had aliens, they didn't have Indy married and fighting arthritis, they didn't have "Mutt" irritating the hell out of everyone.

You just don't get the point. It isn't that things were "better", it is that you don't take an old idea and fuck with it just for the sake of being different.

What movie is from your generation? Dark Knight? Right, lets say that in twenty years time, someone remakes the Dark Knight but instead of Batman being a dark and tortured soul trying desperately to stop a sociopathic psychopath, it turns out that the reason the Joker is the way he is is that he got abducted by aliens who inserted a chip in his head. Batman decided to become Batman because he was a world sporting champion who decided to use his athletic ability for good. And, rather than Batman trying to fight the Joker and his henchmen, he has to find a cunning way to stop the alien weaponry from working and interfere with the alien mind chip.

Wouldn't that make you go "URGH! FUCK!"?
actually the very first movie i saw in theaters, on it's original run, was Star Wars. yes i'm in a generation before you. so there goes your theory right about me having no clue. i was still young when i saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, on it's original theatrical run as well and the same goes for all the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies.

in fact i'm probly the only person in this thread who can actually claim something like that. actually i'm probly one of the few Escapists who can actually make that claim.

so once again you have NO clue what you are talking about with these movies, the Indiana Jones movies are based on the old pulp novels and the pulp heroes of the 30s-50s. if you bothered to listen to ANYTHING Lucas has ever said about Indy or Star Wars, which is apparent most people have not, then you'd understand and know that aliens fit right into the scheme of things.

as for aliens no fitting in? sorry to say but they make the best fit for Indy based on the time frame of the movie. during the 30s and 40s of the original 3, there was the war with the Nazis and the Nazis liked the occult stuff. the 50s were all about the Russians and .... drum roll please ...... ALIENS.

you still look at the original ones as a child and put it on a pedestal. maybe you should actually watch the movies as an adult and see it thru the eyes of an adult. you wanted the new Indy movie and probly Star Wars, to bring back your childhood, which it can't and will never do. so grow the hell up and don't look at it like a child, look at it like an adult.

Well done, you witnessed the exact moment George Lucas became a sell out doush bag instead of a legit director like in the earlier films he was involved in. But in-turn he became the god of fanboys. Crystal skull is diabolical due to the "fridge scene". And thats just one of the reasons. And it's ftw. If you look through rose-tinted glasses yes it's worse, but looking at it through shit-stainded contact lense (yes from the inside) it's still diabolical and a sequel (if looked at as a stand-alone movie) is like watching a sequel to "A Clock-work Orange" (a film so terrible I want to gut people who pretend to like it.)

Not to risk undoing my rant but I love the first 3. No archaeology involved btw, but it was from the era of explosions and stop motion, plasticine effects. That can't compete today and thats why it should stay in the past. I mean it's like trying to bring Rambo, Die Hard or Rocky back... wait say WHAT!

I quoted you correctly this time. Take that internet!

Anyway, I can understand where you're coming from. It took me a a few minutes to figure out why she'd burst into nothingness, as I honestly forgot what she'd wanted as her reward (even though she ended up saying it ever three seconds). I didn't really care for the character, and therefore didn't give a flying monkey-butt about her predicament and eventual downfall.

Am I really the only one here who liked Indy 4? People complain so much about the alien theme, but here's the thing. You know how the first three movies were all based off of real-life myths and legends? (Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail) There really are ruins that have evidence of alien contact in ancient times, and supposedly the Crystal Skull is also a real myth. I wasn't the least bit surprised to see it pop up in the movie. (I will agree that the UFO was too much, however)

As for the fridge, yeah, it's silly. But then again, so is jumping off of an airplane in an inflatable raft and riding it down a mountain. Not that big an issue to me, really.

To each their own, I guess.

I'm sick and tired of this. Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was not a bad movie. I was watching it again this afternoon. It is not as good as the original series, but if you watch it as a movie in its own right, based on the serials of the 50s, which it was, then it acquires a whole new lease of life. You watch the originals to see the 30s adventure movies sent up, which they are in spectacular fashion, and the 4th movie did the same.

I think if they come up with a good concept, work on some of the relationships between the characters, then it could have a whole new lease of life as an entirely new form of the Indy franchise. I for one welcome this development, and look forward to seeing it in cinema.

Meh, even if I were a guy she wouldn't be my type. She has a kind of 'porcelain doll' appearance.
