Your post makes it seem like he thought homophobia was wrong. Weird wording.
As for meeting high levels of stupidity: I worked fast food for 6 years, retail for 4 years, and at Wal-Mart for about a year.
I know exactly what stupid is. I actually have a saying that my wife and I act out every time someone does something we don't understand. Some guy will rip across 3 lanes of traffic, cutting people off, and then slam on his brakes when nothing is in front of him, and my wife will ask 'What is that guy thinking?!' to which I ask: "Honey, what are people?" And she, resigned, says "Stupid." It explains most behavior, though we have that back-and-forth more often then I'd like.
I too subscribe to the school of misanthropy.

At the start of this year I left my Applied Science A-Level course because the other people in my class were in short, morons. Incapable of following the simplest of instructions and having to have the most basic scientific theories explained to them several times. You may think I'm exaggerating and being smug but this is genuinely what the teacher said to me when I saw her in the hall last week:

"I miss your intelligence"

Unprofessional? Maybe. Hilarious? Hell yes. I can't think of any particular moments off the top of my head but if I remember some, I'll come back.
That's just. Awesome.

And with that good night; If I have to necro this tomorrow I shall try. Some funny stories and decent conversation is being pulled up.

Goodnight Guys!

Oh, and my roommate told me this one.

During biology, they were talking about reproduction and what not, and it was mentioned that a type of glucose (sugar) was a key component in semen. A girl in class raised her hand (she was probably 15 or 16) and asked:

"Is that why it tastes sweet?"

She was dead serious. She didn't even realize what information she was divulging about herself...

I personally WISH I could have been there.
Not to be a dick, but I'm pretty sure your roommate was lying to you when he said that. That's a fairly common joke, as I've heard it several times myself. I mean, I guess it's possible, but it's rather unlikely that it happened.

I've also heard it phrased where the girl said "Well why does it taste so salty?" in exhange for "Is that why it tastes so sweet?"

The reason people are stupid is because they can have a different opinion to you. So in their eyes, you are the stupid one.

But retail has taught me that yes, people are essentially dim (myself included in certain situations) and should be told not to breed.

Also, remember that a group of people will go to mob mentality if theres someone who has a strong enough opinion and is charismatic enough

My work here is done.
Hey look an elitist ass picking up on a slip of the mind of a (mildly) drunk guy fixing a previous slip up of using the wrong "your/you're" and was busy replying to posts. Hey look at him everybody. He is cool. Give it a rest will you? My patience for rude and frankly unhelpful people like yourself is at it's end recently. It was pointed out (in a far less derogative manner) than yours several times before. So essentially you came to this thread for that sole purpose. Making you, a troll. A grammatically correct twice as annoying self righteous troll. So either contribute or shut the hell up.
But what about the Anime teacher lady? that was a contribution...
Though it was a bit trollish.
ANYWAY: Holy crap, that's simply disgusting.

That's not the point. They accepted the idea that this is all blown up to idiotic levels of panic, and then said that it's good even if politicians are fucking with our heads.

Anyway, I'm not the one to represent this, but I'll say this: Look into both sides of the coin. The IPCC may be giving us this proof, but there's no contradiction. To quote an old Arabic mathematician: "The seeker of truth does not put trust in any old consensus: he questions it, and submits his learning from it to reason & demonstration." Believe me, I was sold on the idea that we have to save ourselves from carbon doom, but I read more into it, and there is proof on the other side of the coin, but the media will never ever put these out. Yes, they can't put out things that are "lies", but they're denying scientists who've worked their asses off and found just as good proof as Al Gore or Michael Mann. Take Richard Lindzen or Anthony Watts as an example.

I will not debate this. You may reply, but I will not debate. I cannot tell you what is right or wrong, only what may be unclear. The rest is up to you to find out. If you're willing to look into this theory, I can provide sources and be glad to help, or, you can ignore my preaching. It's fully understandable, it sounds crazy from an outside perspective. We'll just wait and see who saved the world or who doomed it. Good day to you now.
Come on man, havent you heard? The supreme court have ruled that carbon emissions are harmful and the EPA have made it official greenhouse gases are a pulic health threat, its over.

Oh and only 4% (I am being generous there) of scientists deny global warming.

So can we look at sorting out the problem rather than hiding from it?
Can you give me the facts? Cause a little bird whispered in my ear that the IPCC is not the general opinion of the majority of scientists. Oh, and haven't you noticed how the debate is heating up? People everywhere are raising an eyebrow at this, so soon we can have a real investigation going.

I was in a mini course in year 8 on General Custer and in the last lesson, as we were finishing off our essays, a girl turns to me and says, "Custer was an Indian, right?"
Yes, yes he was...

Right hello. Yeah. I was in my English lesson today. It was pretty laid back and due to an earlier incident The topic of Racism and homophobia was brought up. The person sitting in front of me went? Homophobia? what's that. (it gets worse) I explained somewhat shocked he didn't know that. Then he preceded to insist it was "wrong" and should be a crime (homosexuality). Of course that bugged me (not gay) so I went to defend against this complete buffoon. My reward? The entire 30 person class of supposed intellectuals yelling me down because I support gay rights. I mean what? They were saying things like "Yeah well I don't want that up there" supposedly assuming every gay person is a rapist. And that it's a choice. A choice? I mean what?

So as for discussion. Can you share similar moments when you are over come by a wave of undefinable levels of stupidity by one of even a group of people?

I'm English and in a rather "normal" area

See, you are english. That's your problem. Try being a nifty American. We're nifty.

I bet they did... like I said, it no longer matters what YOU believe... it has been ruled that green house gases are dangerous to our health, the debate isnt heating up. The debate is over.

That really does come up so often. Every guy seems to assume that if another guy is gay, he's going to automatically want to have sex with or rape him. I'm pretty sure gay guys have standards just the same as straight females do.

No. Haven't you been listening to the news? All this will be discussed in Copenhagen, even though it won't be signed this year (thank you, China). So us skeptics are in the clear until then. I doubt it will be signed, and China will be the black sheep of the century for the next decade. And I'm guessing you're listening to the mainstream media? The ones who don't even care how much evidence Richard Lindzen throws in their faces. You can prove that God doesn't exist and hold a two-hour lecture explaining it step-by-step, and be right, but the media will not care. Cause they're biased. There is no unbiased news media, sadly. The media pricks just bought the first story to swing by. 40 years ago, the scientists said the Earth was cooling. 40 years later, the same scientists have switched side.

(Damn you, you made me break my 'no debating' promise. You meanie!)

I went to a public forum debate tournament where the resoulutuon was "The United Nations should prioritize povery reduction over envoronmental protection" in one round I was on the side of povery reduction so one of my points was That the UNEP or the UN's environmental program wasn't doing so well while the others were running smoothly

The two airheaded girls me and my partner had to debate first read some retarded case that basically said we're all going to perish in an appocalyptic event if the environment isn't saved, then when we effectivly refuted one of their points and they spent the entire round debating that they hadn't mentioned something I was sure they most definatly had mentioned! And the only rallying point they could give against us was to specify what programs of the UN were running smoothly which wasn't really necessary.

They were so damn stupid it was almost impossible to take them seriously no matter what statistics we threw at them they just shrugged off and failed to refute any of our points.
You meet some stupid people in debate sometimes.
