This is pretty much a huge "quod erat demonstrandum" for why I hate the general human population: The majority can be totally, totally wrong in some impossibly asinine ways.McCa said:Right hello. Yeah. I was in my English lesson today. It was pretty laid back and due to an earlier incident The topic of Racism and homophobia was brought up. The person sitting in front of me went? Homophobia? what's that. (it gets worse) I explained somewhat shocked he didn't know that. Then he preceded to insist it was "wrong" and should be a crime (homosexuality). Of course that bugged me (not gay) so I went to defend against this complete buffoon. My reward? The entire 30 person class of supposed intellectuals yelling me down because I support gay rights. I mean what? They were saying things like "Yeah well I don't want that up there" supposedly assuming every gay person is a rapist. And that it's a choice. A choice? I mean what?
So as for discussion. Can you share similar moments when you are over come by a wave of undefinable levels of stupidity by one of even a group of people?
I'm English and in a rather "normal" area
Have a cookie for being the only reasonable person in your class. You deserve more, admittedly. This definately ranks up along the biggest 'wall-bangers' I ever heard.
I've seen a lot of legendary stupid things myself; including a bunch of people insisting that rape was fine in comparison to assault on a topic right here on The Escapist that got locked because it devolved into a flame war between the idiots claiming assault was much worse under all circumstances, idiots claiming assault was much worse under all circumstances and the handful of intelligent people who realised both were horrible and that the other sides were wrong for insisting that one was 'fine' compared to the other. Guess which of the three sides I was on.
They had a very closed-minded and narrow definition of what rape was, too, and what it could do to a person. Oh, and don't even get me started with people who believe "Rape is okay if it's female on male".
But I digress.
I suppose the entire human race in general is this for me; most are shallow, presumptuous and stubborn creatures who hold utterly arbitrary facts about a person's appearance or personality as being all-important factors with how much a person will try to like another, among countless other fallacies. Needless to say, I try and distance myself as far from that as possible, but I too am prone to truly idiotic mistakes; and I hate myself for it, whether or not it's always truly my own fault.
