Right hello. Yeah. I was in my English lesson today. It was pretty laid back and due to an earlier incident The topic of Racism and homophobia was brought up. The person sitting in front of me went? Homophobia? what's that. (it gets worse) I explained somewhat shocked he didn't know that. Then he preceded to insist it was "wrong" and should be a crime (homosexuality). Of course that bugged me (not gay) so I went to defend against this complete buffoon. My reward? The entire 30 person class of supposed intellectuals yelling me down because I support gay rights. I mean what? They were saying things like "Yeah well I don't want that up there" supposedly assuming every gay person is a rapist. And that it's a choice. A choice? I mean what?

So as for discussion. Can you share similar moments when you are over come by a wave of undefinable levels of stupidity by one of even a group of people?

I'm English and in a rather "normal" area
This is pretty much a huge "quod erat demonstrandum" for why I hate the general human population: The majority can be totally, totally wrong in some impossibly asinine ways.

Have a cookie for being the only reasonable person in your class. You deserve more, admittedly. This definately ranks up along the biggest 'wall-bangers' I ever heard.

I've seen a lot of legendary stupid things myself; including a bunch of people insisting that rape was fine in comparison to assault on a topic right here on The Escapist that got locked because it devolved into a flame war between the idiots claiming assault was much worse under all circumstances, idiots claiming assault was much worse under all circumstances and the handful of intelligent people who realised both were horrible and that the other sides were wrong for insisting that one was 'fine' compared to the other. Guess which of the three sides I was on.

They had a very closed-minded and narrow definition of what rape was, too, and what it could do to a person. Oh, and don't even get me started with people who believe "Rape is okay if it's female on male".

But I digress.

I suppose the entire human race in general is this for me; most are shallow, presumptuous and stubborn creatures who hold utterly arbitrary facts about a person's appearance or personality as being all-important factors with how much a person will try to like another, among countless other fallacies. Needless to say, I try and distance myself as far from that as possible, but I too am prone to truly idiotic mistakes; and I hate myself for it, whether or not it's always truly my own fault.

This. My god middle school is the pinacle of stupidity in my area Middle School is based on how "bad" you are basically as a boy in order to be accepted you have to act stupid not care about grades and do "bad" things that get you put in detention. So you'd hear idiots saying shit like "When she wasn't looking I erased everything she wrote on the board" and other crap just to get notoriety you had to go there to see it. But needless to say the "gangsta movement" as I like to call is was painful to watch.

Come on man, havent you heard? The supreme court have ruled that carbon emissions are harmful and the EPA have made it official greenhouse gases are a pulic health threat, its over.

Oh and only 4% (I am being generous there) of scientists deny global warming.

So can we look at sorting out the problem rather than hiding from it?
Can you give me the facts? Cause a little bird whispered in my ear that the IPCC is not the general opinion of the majority of scientists. Oh, and haven't you noticed how the debate is heating up? People everywhere are raising an eyebrow at this, so soon we can have a real investigation going.
I bet they did... like I said, it no longer matters what YOU believe... it has been ruled that green house gases are dangerous to our health, the debate isnt heating up. The debate is over.
No. Haven't you been listening to the news? All this will be discussed in Copenhagen, even though it won't be signed this year (thank you, China). So us skeptics are in the clear until then. I doubt it will be signed, and China will be the black sheep of the century for the next decade. And I'm guessing you're listening to the mainstream media? The ones who don't even care how much evidence Richard Lindzen throws in their faces. You can prove that God doesn't exist and hold a two-hour lecture explaining it step-by-step, and be right, but the media will not care. Cause they're biased. There is no unbiased news media, sadly. The media pricks just bought the first story to swing by. 40 years ago, the scientists said the Earth was cooling. 40 years later, the same scientists have switched side.

(Damn you, you made me break my 'no debating' promise. You meanie!)
Okay, first of all... remember when you said "Ever heard of FOX News? CNN?" because they had people who supported your ideas on... they are as mainstream as media can come and as bias!

Also no, this has nothing to do with the "mainstream" media... the simple fact of the matter is that greenhouse gases have been ruled to be a danger to our health, it was done so on Monday I believe.

Please tell me whom. And specify the gases more. Right now you just remind me of Al Gore repeatedly saying "There is a consensus" and just stops there.

GAH! I already told you! See, this is why I dont talk to conspiract theorists and people of other heavily bias opinions. When you give them the proof they just forget that they ever saw it and then ask for that exact piece of proof that has already been provided!

It was the EPA with a supreme court ruling!

last year I had a girl talking rather smugly about the choice of homosexuality, same situation.

Also like 3 weeks ago we just finished a test on the French revolution and were laying back before we moved on from the French revolution by watching a movie about the French revolution and playing trivial pursuit. A girl was asked a question about which revolution "had heads rolling", and not only did we have to show her the video directly behind her as a hint, she had to watch it for 3 minuets before she gave up.

What proof? The IPCC? Al Gore? The so called "majority" of scientists? The EPA? The problems with "proof" is that it's only visible in the eyes of those who understands it. We are no scientists, so we can only follow what sounds logical. Anyone can form a rational argument out of anything, cause the majority of humans aren't educated in climatology. Graphs, charts, lectures, speeches, all that will only strengthen the opinions of several head-nodders. The idea with opposing parties is to find the logical explanation, which both parties are going through bit by bit. But soon everyone will have to invest in their own equipment, cause there is no universal truth.

(Wow, this got really out of hand, didn't it?)

I've got ammusing situations mostly cause I am gay. Canada just has the occasional retard.

One lunch-hour we were arguing about nature vs. nurture in relation to homosexuality. It stayed on topic for all of 5 seconds before one chick made it into choice vs. nature while the rest of us were trying to say it was both nature and nurture and this was related to someone's assignment. So her argument fails as it is totally obvious no one will willingly choose a hard life and she exclaims, "Gay people are stupid!" Three get seriously pissed off and two of us chucked food (both of us have gay relatives and I didn't know I was then).

My brilliant English and Theory of Knowledge teacher was talking to her regular Grade 12 class about homosexual rights around the world. One of my classmates heard two of the regular 12's talk about how they couldn't believe she actually cared about that.

More hilarity to ensue as there's a good few fundies in my ToK class and I have a presentation on the Anti-Homosexuality Bill in Uganda due like tomorrow ^-^

Also, next person who mixes up any term such as drag queen, transvestite, transgender, pansexual, or bisexual by either using them wrong or just being an ignorant dick is gonna get a lecture.

I'd just like to take a minute to stand up for the stupid people in the world, of which I am one. If not for us you wouldn't have games like Gears of War, wet t-shirt contests and amazing shows like MTV's Jersey Shore.

So the next time you're secretly using lame pick up lines on members of the opposite sex, remember that you only have that line thanks to stupid people. The next time your jamming out to Miley Cyrus's Party In The USA in your car, because you think no one can hear you with the windows rolled up, remember that you're doing so courtesy of a stupid person's talents.

So god bless the stupid people, and by extension me, because without us your world would be a dull, intelligent place.

In my school, virtually every discriminates, whether it be sexuality (although they don't mind lesbians... Hm, I wonder why?) race (Racial slurs, saying that being anything other than white is a bad thing pretty much, using black and mexican as insults), religion (they use jew as a term for cheap) or lack of religion (Not as much though). I hate the amount of discrimination in my school, and virtually everywhere, I just remind myself that they're morons, and I'll allow them to have opinions, but when their opinions are like that, I can't help myself.

Yes, because you are taking it out of hand.

The supreme court and the EPA dont just say... "Hmm, this thing isnt proven but lets make it official anyway."! They look at everything and then make their decision... hecn why it took the supreme court so long to pass a ruling!

You arent looking for facts anymore, you are just looking for things that agree with you. Face it, you are on the wrong side of this. You chose to stand by the Oil Companies... you said Al Gore was in it for the money... you were blind to who you were allying yourself with, of course they would want you to think global warming isnt real... it was their fault and it will hurt their businesses!

I sort of have a question dealing with this thread...well not so much about it but with the topic...well im not homophobic and i would believe in gay rights, the only thing what dosnt make sence are these so called "bisexuals" personally i believe that if your straight or homosexual your born that way why is it that people thing that its a choice to be either in the context that these bisexuals can just pick. well im asking because all my life ive been told that homosexuality is not a persons choice and i still believe that so why is this? can anyone help me out with this?

I've never seen something like mass gay-bashing. I have been suspended for telling a gay kid, "Settle down, fruity-pants." He was cool, but his (chick) friends didn't take it well, and reported me.

now if you replace that stupid guy with the principal, and your stupid class with the bulk of the teaching staff, you've got my old school. Oh, then there's the actual students.

Gotta love Opus Dei!

If you encounter an idiot in life, ask them to explain why they believe what they do that has caused you to judge them as such. Listen carefully enough and, in the end, either they will have some understanding of why they're an idiot, you will have some understanding that you were the idiot all along, or (most likely) you will discover idiocy in all involved parties.

F*CKNUTS.

One long and erudite post written.
An accidental click whilst trying to scroll the screen to get to something I want to edit, as part of the text box is hidden, and a hasty backspace.

Browser goes back to the front page; as a veteran of such cockups, I blast Alt+Right.
The site has updated such that there's a seventh page. Hence, my box is cleared.

ARGGH.

How could I be so stupid?

.... let me see if I can recover the essence of it in shorter form after this.

I recently picked up a fun hobby of trolling some forums on some random website where people talk about how right they are and that Homosexuals and Obama are destroying "The pure traditions and morals of America."

This shit pisses me off, but they are SO fucking stupid on the site (and making an account was free), that I get to release my anger and have fun at the same time.

On person inparticular made my day with the following comment (Quoted from the site):

"We used to have corruption of a minor laws, What happen to them? Why are people forced to except homosexuality ? when was it normalized to commit sodomy?"

I simply replied:

"Why are people forced to accept that blacks are equal to whites, that women should have the same rights as men? Who someone choses to take to their bed has absolutely nothing to do with you, and is none of your damn business anyhow unless it is YOU they are taking."

They (nor any of their high and mighty friends) had nothing to say to that.
Soooooooooooooooo... What sites are we talking about?

Someone in 8th grade English asked what a capital "C" is. For those of you who don't know here's an example.
