If my teachers were like this, I'd have stayed in school.Ganthrinor said:
Well, it probably originally was "lighthouse." "Not the brightest light in the outhouse" was a humorous permutation of the phrase I picked up playing SWAT 2 as a kid with my brother. One of the officers who you could put on your team (who just happened to be one of the best in the game) was described in his personell file as being "not the brightest light in the outhouse." I've just enjoyed using the phrase ever since hearing it.JaymesFogarty said:Outhouse? Crap, I thought it was lighthouse, thanks for that!Kpt._Rob said:I hadn't realized that anti-gay sentiment was actually that strong in England. I guess it's one of those misconceptions that I have as an American liberal, to imagine England and other western European countries to be far more progressive than my own. I mean, I live in Oklahoma, which is right in the bible belt, the focal point of conservativism here in America. Hell, we were the only state in which not even a single district went for Obama during the last election. But I rarely ever saw anti-gay sentiment expressed like that in school.
Anyways, as for undefinable stupiditiy. Well, when I was taking World History our teacher was going over Oligarchy (the form of government) with us, and this kid who sat a couple of chairs in front of me just suddenly bursts out "Oligarchy! Is that where they got Olive Garden from?!" I guess the similarity of the words "Oligarchy" and "Olive Garden" had been too overpowering for his mind. Then again, this was the same kid who once ate Miracle Grow to see if it'd make him grow any faster. Needless to say, he wasn't exactly the brightest light in the outhouse.
On subject, I myself know many people that are not exactly intolerant, but that aren't particularly friendly to homosexuals. Several of them describe anything they do not like as, "gay," for example, "I hate Dan Brown, his books are gay." I disagree with that statement (quoted literally from one of my notreallyfriends) for two reasons:
1: I do not believe that books have sexual desire or a sexual preference.
2: Dan Brown is a good author, that should not receive as much negative attention as he does.
Yes well homophobia is a sign of ignorance. Thus in my eyes stupidity.ffs-dontcare said:Something strikes me as odd here.McCa said:Right hello. Yeah. I was in my English lesson today. It was pretty laid back and due to an earlier incident The topic of Racism and homophobia was brought up. The person sitting in front of me went? Homophobia? what's that. (it gets worse) I explained somewhat shocked he didn't know that. Then he preceded to insist it was "wrong" and should be a crime (homosexuality). Of course that bugged me (not gay) so I went to defend against this complete buffoon. My reward? The entire 30 person class of supposed intellectuals yelling me down because I support gay rights. I mean what? They were saying things like "Yeah well I don't want that up there" supposedly assuming every gay person is a rapist. And that it's a choice. A choice? I mean what?
So as for discussion. Can you share similar moments when you are over come by a wave of undefinable levels of stupidity by one of even a group of people?
I'm English and in a rather "normal" area
Them not supporting gay rights has nothing to do with how intelligent they are, it's just their personal beliefs and such about morals. Last I checked, morals is a grey area.
That being said, they would've looked more intelligent if they didn't all rise up simultaneously and bleat loudly "no gay, no gay" in your face.
Also, the guy would've looked smarter if he actually knew what homophobia was, but then there are certain things I don't know that most people do know (e.g. my own height). And that has nothing to do with my level of intelligence. It just means I never really had a reason to measure my height. I also didn't know what the word "expendable" meant up until a few years back.
yes but you do have a school where a girl does ooow hen being tapped down there.... during assembly. sha wing.Furburt said:Wow. Thats strange. Never had anything like that happen in my school.
"Hitler believed that homosexuality was "degenerate behavior" which posed a threat to the capacity of the state and the "masculine character" of the nation. Gay men were denounced as "enemies of the state" and charged with "corrupting" public morality and posing a threat to the German birthrate."SikOseph said:Homosexuality is conducive to racial purity, so that can't be the link. Well, that is their opinion. I wouldn't say simply not liking homosexuality would make them stupid. Also, not knowing what homophobia doesn't make him stupid either.McCa said:Right hello. Yeah. Oh, I'm not defending racism, I'm simply saying that people are always going to have different opinions on various subjects. It's why we're able to function as a society; we have to learn to accomodate (Sp?) others so we ourselves can live a comfortable life.McCa said:Huh what? I see no mistake?Danzaivar said:Oh my god... Honestly if you didn't rant about how this was in an English lesson I'd have left it. =P
On topic tho, you really should have pointed out that Hitler had a similar view on Homosexuals. Usually shuts people up when they realise they're pushing Nazism.Again what is the imaginary slip of the mind? And yes. He did.Amnestic said:Fixed that for you.Oh my god... You're THAT stupid?
He insisted that homophobia should be a crime? Then he preceded to insist it was "wrong" and should be a crime. What's wrong with that? It boils down to racism. You are not honestly going to defend that are you?Pulse Reality said:I was actually thinking the same thing.Danzaivar said:Oh my god... Your THAT stupid?

On Topic: What's wrong with that? I mean, sure, some people are going to support Gay Rights like you do, and some people are going to be against homosexuals alltogether.
