We meet the stupid all the time, every day.

The IQ of the crowd is the square root of the number of people in the crowd.

Personally, to me anyone can be gay, straight, transgender, robot or undecided. Just stop whinging about it to others and come to an intelligent conclusion yourself.

Oh yeah, I live in a little county in the West Middlands and I was one of the few people in my class who didn't think that homosexuality was the devil's work.

Der Copypaste from the last time someone asked this:

Listen-- I didn't design it, and I have no idea how it got bunged up the way it is. I left it years before my time for homeschool, despite repeated assertions that I was damning myself.

I finished my second novel this week and sent it over to Dark Horse.

Back at school, in the nightmare that is Alabamian public education:
So, I'm playing Assassin's Creed II with one of my friends (still in school) today, and I stop by Da Vinci's workshop. He absent-mindedly asked if Leonardo was Italian.

After a moment of stunned silence, I answer his question and tell him to go read a book.

He then oggles at me for a second before explaining that his school has a policy that prevents students from reading or borrowing non-fiction books until they've read at least ten school-owned doorstop fictions.

Guess what's at the top of the required reading list.

Go on. Guess.

Little Women? No.

Flowers for Algernon? No.

Lord of the Rings? No.

Umm...Crazy in Alabama? No.

Well, what is it then?

Eragon.

Mother. F**king. Eragon.

I shit you not.

Your thoughts?
And so begins the gradual decline of the human race...

OT: My exceptionally right-wing, uberchristian history teacher used to have knives all over his classroom and he used to give this demonstration on "bleeding" where you would cut someone so the "bad blood" would leave their body (that is the correct definition, right?) Well sufficed to say he performed that demonstration on a student and actually cut the kid. I was happy to see him go, he had this huge huge thing against japanese people which pissed me off.

Wow i wouldn't really call it stupidity, i would call it mass preduice and iggnorance.

Hmm stupid things i see, well currently i am seeing a lot of it at University. A lot of people seem to think that because they like something they are the best at it. Case in point one of my flatmates, he loves bands like Kings of Leon and Muse (and would never stop playing them) and yet enrolled here to a HMD in Music Tech when he had never played an instrument and had no idea what any music terminology meant. Thankfully he has gone now but it still baffles me how much he thought he was brilliant at music when he knew fuck all about it.

And you don't want to get me started on half of my fellow Games Design students...

Awww... It always sucks to find that the society you live in is not as advanced as you thought. One of the tenors in our school choir is always getting beaten up by his "friends" because "singing is for girls/sissies". For the record, it's pretty hard to mix him up with a girl. He's got a spiky fuzz-head (like, not bald but not long enough to qualify as "short-haired"), and he's a kickass beat-boxer. It's strange; it used to be that the guys in choir were the leaders of everything in the school...

I was in 5th grade and we were doing Biology. Since one teacher called in sick, the biology teacher had to take the 8th grade in our class and give them work to do so they'd shut the fuck up.

Whilst she was talking about plants, she asked the 8th grade what made plants green. Here's a quote from me directed to an 8th grader sitting near me "CHLOROPHYLL YOU FUCKING MORON, CHLOROPHYLL!". The idiot get's up and says pollution. I think at that point I vouched not to be like them when I reach 8th grade. That plan went down the drain fairly fast, but meh.

What's wrong with that? It boils down to racism. You are not honestly going to defend that are you?
If he isn't going to defend that I sure as hell am. People should be allowed to think what the heck they like, as long as they don't act on it. You aren't advocating the idea of thought-crimes are you?
You see, many of these people ACT on what they are saying. And very very often cuss down gay individuals, and myself for supporting them. I don't think you will defend that will you?
Well, you never said anything about that. It just sounded like this was a one off when they was giving their views in class, not part of a hate campaign.

They have every right to hate anything they want, or think something is wrong. They don't have the right to make someone feel miserable because of those views tho, no.
Well that's retarded, freedom of speech and thought is of course an inaliable right of everyone, but that still doesn't mean that some views aren't wrong due to ignorance and are downright scientifically incomprehensible. Especially if the people that uphold said views act on them and further because those very views against the very notion of freedom. Those are the kind of people that really deserve blows from a morning-star to the shins...

My sixth grade teacher: So, ostriches can't fly. [there was a specific word he was teaching to us using that example, but I don't remember it.] Can anyone name some birds that can?
"Robins!"
"Pigeons!"
"Ducks!"
Weller: Ducks don't fly.

And for the rest of the year, anything Weller said was met with "Yeah, Weller, and ducks don't fly."

I'm a news editor at my university's student newspaper, and you should see some of the so-called "tips" we get. A few weeks ago, a Ph.D student wanted me to send someone to investigate a print shop on campus because she had written the wrong size on a poster she wanted copied and the shop had insisted on charging her for it.

I once asked, in the middle of a History lesson, if Stalin was still alive because I'd seen him on Red Alert. THAT was stupid.

What you described was a different opinion. One I don't agree with, but still not stupid, so we can stop with the elitist dickery now. Sorry.

All that aside, I do find it quite disappointing that Britain may not be as progressive as I had believed it to be. Sometimes all one can do as an American liberal is imagine that there's a better place, if that sort of homophobia is common in Britain I may have to cross it off my list places to dream about.
Well, I think we are progressing in a way, I just think kids say they hate gays in this country is because 1. They will be called gay if they stick up for them
2. They are blindlessly following the crowd to be 'cool'
3. They are not correctly informed about the subject

One of my friends say he hates 'gays' and I scolded him for it and all he could come up with was him not liking them act girly because it wasn't natural but because he was ignorant he has went on hating gays even though one of my friends is gay.

Ironic how anti-nazism has been brought up several times in this thread, yet there are several Grammar Nazis...
Ironic, isn't it, how I myself am I Grammar Nazi <.<

OT: Meh, people can be intolerant, you just have to live with it. My best mate is anti-gay rights and anti-abortion, he was force fed the bible x:
Though, that many people...? Something like that has never happened to me.
Even if it did, it would probably only be the guys of the class. Most of the girls I know love gay people. Go figure.

They confused sugarcane with candy canes.

They asked whether the ice fish was really made of ice.

Try beat those. Try and fail.

Guys are terrified that if they condone homosexuality, they'll be called gay, because the implication/stereotype is that gay=girly. Girls tend to love gay guys because they're not gonna hit on them. I'm not so clear on lesbian stereotypes... I know one of my bisexual girl friend's best friends freaked out when he found out, even though they were so close up until then. I know her sister won't even look at her if she has a girlfriend.

I understand why it happens, but it's an unfortunate double-standard that people are willing to say "I support gay rights, as long as you don't think I'm gay." There's nothing wrong with being gay. There's nothing wrong with people thinking you're gay if you're not. I mean, (if you're a straight guy,) you've probably had to turn down a girl who liked you who you didn't want to date, yes? Or you will have to. It's exactly the same idea, if a gay guy hits on you: all you have to do is politely say "Sorry, I don't swing that way."
