Lucky star and Azumanga Daioh, especially the latter. Both of these are well subbed, and the subs are MILES better than the dubs. A lot of people find the English voices intolerable in the Azumanga dub. When a dub is done, some things get dropped or changed all together to make the story relatable to someone of another language and culture. And characters from the Osaka area tend to sprout strange accents.
His performance in this video at the 4:20 mark is bland and emotionless? I'll answer that for you, no it's not. He actually sounds like a closet shut-in.ZiggyE said:

Baccano! is the only one I have finished, while I watched it dubbed my friend watched it subbed. It was one of those things where he didn't like that I watched it dubbed, but I told him that it was phenomenal dubbed, especially since it works better because of the accents. In a show that deals partly with classic early 1900's mobster family's in America, it the dub fits perfectly.
I usually don't watch anime unless I can get it dubbed. I just can't read the rocket speed that the majority of subs fly by. Besides, reading distracts me from the watching but if just watch, I won't know what the heck is going on.
But yeah, Baccano! is awesome dubbed.
If closet shut-ins have weird inflections (maybe years of not talking to anybody makes one forget how to speak?) then yes, he sounds like a closet shut in. Considering the old lady he was talking to sounded weird too, though, I'd say the voice acting just isn't very good. He's got the yelling part down, but it's kind of a "WHY AM I YELLING? I HAVE NO EARTHLY IDEA" Will Ferrel-comedy yelling, and not a realistic "I'm yelling because it's called for by my emotional state" type of yelling.WayOutThere said:
The main anime that I won't watch in English is One Piece (4kids4kids4kids), simply because I think that the Japanese version adds more emotion to the series. I started watching anime in English, so most of the time I don't have a problem with it, especially when I'm watching it with my roommate for instance because it gives her a headache to read the subtitles.

Nah, there's basically 3 different languages. The shinigami terminology is Japanese, the hollow terminology is Spanish and the Quincy terminology is German. Most of the dialogue is from the shinigami, then from the hollows later on, but I don't understand either Japanese OR Spanish so it doesn't seem weird to me. I think you've got a point though - I think that if I was native to Japan I'd think it sounded strange.Gasaraki said:
Like others have said, I remember I watched Samurai Chanpuru with a fan sub - and without a doubt it was the best subs I've ever seen. I speak Japanese fluently and lived there for 7 years, so I could keep up with it and also catch the cultural nuances that usually are lost in translation. The fan sub of the show nailed all of the references damned well - it had subs at the top of the page that would explain little cultural nuggets of understanding.
I remember an episode where this gaijin was running around Edo like a tourist, and he didn't quite understand the culture so - to catch his clumsy use of the language and misunderstanding of concepts - the subs would explain the little screw ups he kept making.

Trust me, I know, and he sucks in all of them and trust me, there are plenty of great dubs that do not have him in it (or only as a very minor character that appears for 1 episode), here are a few: Samurai Champloo, Death Note, Basilisk, Afro Samurai, Ergo Proxy, Blade of the immortal, Ghost in the Shell, Shigurui, Hellsing, Hellsing Ultimate, Gungrave, and countless more I'm sureAuricTrinity_XL said:
