I learned to clean my guns frequently from System Shock 2 (and my father figure, but SS2 first). It has served me well.

Civilization and Assassin's Creed helped with history. What really got me off the ground, however, was Age of Empires. Good times.

I also have basic knowledge of cars, guns, swords, gunswords, tanks, and probably computers thanks to video games.

I learned about multiple types of archaic weaponry due to RPGs, and the different kinds of dice from tabletop RPGs. Filling out character sheets also helped my handwriting, and got me better at simple math.

UFO Aftermath helped my understanding of Geography - I'd never even heard of Brno before it, let alone where it was!

I also have Operation: Flashpoint to thank for showing me the variety of cold war military hardware. I've had people confused when I tell them that no, it's not a Kalashnikov, it's an M-16, and them asking "What's the difference?" before I launch into long, nerdy descriptions.

Videogames taught me that handguns are weaker than rifles, even at close range and hitting vital points.
