Older games are like new games: some are good and some are bad. But sometimes you'll find one in a bargain bin somewhere that was an idea ahead of its time. Thats the point of this forum, i wanna hear about ssome of people's faverote old-but-gold games. Also I hope this thread will help any on-budget gamers (what with the recession and all) find sommin cheap but awesome!

Tropico (PC): Control a tropical island in this political sim. May sound dull but it actually really entertaining from legalising gambling to eliminating your election rival. Whats not to like?

Chrono Cross (RPG - PS1) - an outstanding JRPG that gets no attention due to the popularity of Chrono Trigger.

*dances around a bit*

Best RPG of all time. So atmospheric and deep. Graphics are ageing though.

Madden '06, The Superstar mode was brand new on it but it was the best one... the rest try too hard.

I'd say the original MGS. That was ahead of its time.

Along with the Final Fantasy series as well.

Shenmue 2

The Third will come one day... one day...
It better be. Ending on a cliffhanger.....

On topic*I remember the Goemon Series. Too bad it wasn't well-known. Konami decided it wasn't worth it to release it in english anymore.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is an awesome game and the graphics are still acceptable. And Black and White 1 was also really good.

Fuck yeah.
Even the original Link's Awakening for the 8-bit Gameboy, definitely a classic.

I first came in touch with the series through Daggerfall. Also aging graphics ;)

My vote for Golden Oldie goes to Fallout 1 and Baldur's Gate 1.

The Apache Helicopter games (PC) were always pretty cool. Had decent graphics and controls weren't too bad either.

hmm quite a few:

Dungeon Keeper 1 + 2, desperate for a 3rd 1

Warcraft 2 or 3(whichever was the 1 with illidan become the big badass buy destroying the skull)

Shenmue, the series must end properly!!

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. I have a game going right now. This is a game where you can do epic things like ruining the environment of a planet and badass thing like nerve stapling people to stop them rebelling against your despotic rule. That's what all the kids like like these days, right? Epic things and badass things? Anyway, just get it.

I absolutely love the N64 Goemon (Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon). It´s almost a pity, that the Goemon series has gone by relatively unnoticed.

Anyway, if it counts as an "oldie", Star Control 2: The Ur-Quan Masters (a modern PC port of Star Control II). Never before have space exploration been so much fun. A compelling story, lots of interesting races, very good voice acting and one of the most interesting antagonist(s) I have seen. I wholeheartedly recommend.

pfft, tomba.
nothing compairs to a game about a pink haired kid fighting evil pigs and hanging from pig-butt trees that fart when you jump on them.
