Oh hell, I love a good crossover, the Judgement Night soundtrack from the 90s was a masterpiece (with a few low points).
1. "Just Another Victim" Helmet and House of Pain 4:23
2. "Fallin'" Teenage Fanclub and De La Soul 4:28
3. "Me, Myself, & My Microphone" Living Colour and Run DMC 3:10
4. "Judgment Night" Biohazard and Onyx 4:35
5. "Disorder" Slayer and Ice-T 4:58
6. "Another Body Murdered" Faith No More and Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. 4:24
7. "I Love You Mary Jane" Sonic Youth and Cypress Hill 3:52
8. "Freak Momma" Mudhoney and Sir Mix-A-Lot 4:00
9. "Missing Link" Dinosaur Jr. and Del tha Funkee Homosapien 3:59
10. "Come and Die" Therapy? and Fatal 4:27
11. "Real Thing" Pearl Jam and Cypress Hill 3:33
Yes I was lazy and c+p'd from wiki... Without wanting to sound like a marketing dick, 'thinking outside the box' can sometimes produce some real gems, and most of the time artists have a lot of respect for those outside their genre.
I don't consider myself a rap fan in any way, yet I have albums from De La Soul, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Cypress Hill, and probably more if I go look, that's just from this list.
I think the problem as ever is with how it is perceived, there's hundreds of great mainstream pop bands, yet the chart will forever be clogged with ex reality show winners (UK) or ex disney stars and faux country singalong hacks (US).
Pretty much the same deal for every genre, Jazz has the like of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, yet its celebrity midget Jamie Cullum that gets all the airtime.
Classical, damn, seems we only like classical when it's 'lite' and performed by someone who won a talent show, preferably not even classical at all, but old pop songs sung a faux opera style (yes I'm looking at you, G4).
Here's one of my favourites of the crossovers however, from the minds of one of the escapist badges, Mike Patton, voice of the Portal anger sphere and L4D's infected.
