I go on a 12 hour flight in 4 weeks and I absolutely need a new DS game, so yay for this thread :D

Incidentally the only other 2 long haul flights I've been on (14 hours and 9 hours) have both been covered by a different flavour of Advance Wars (2 and then DS) - if you get it new before you set off the flight'll fly by :)
First of all, you're welcome. =)
You should also try Castlevania and Professor Layton. Lots of fun!
If I could plug in my laptop I would just get UFO: Extratsomethingother gold edition. xD
Ooooh Professor Layton - I killed a good 4 or 5 hours once visiting my girlfriends parents house playing that, and I don't own it (there's a sequel out anyway, isn't there?) so that might be a good shout :D Never played Castlevania before - whats it like? :)
It's basicly an open world game in 2D where you find different powers to get to new areas. I love it! It's similar to super metroid and shadow complex.
If I was honest and said I can never get into Metroid games (be it an original or one of the Primes), would you still recommend Castlevania? :(

I've never played prime, but if you don't like the gamplay of Super Metroid it's probably not the game for you. If you however don't like the future sci-fi setting the fantasy setting could prove interesting.

Yep, this. Chrono Trigger is a superb and immersive game. Although I would need to beat the boss I'm stuck on.

If you've never played them, the Phoenix Wright games would be pretty good for a long trip. In fact, they're pretty good for everything.

Advance Wars, any of them. They are so addictive and fun to play. That or Pokemon, or even Tetris. I find that if you have a lot of time to fill and you need to play a game, a simple one will do best.
You sure? Usually I need to space out my advance wars playing with a couple other games once I hit a brick wall, I feel it helps me do it with a clear head.

Which one, I'm stuck on Lavos' final form. Fucking hell that is a hard boss battle.

Dragon Warrior IX was released recently, and it's awesome. SO GOOD
I've been wondering about this, so just a couple questions:
Is the customisation as good as they say it is? Are their many side-quests, guilds, or anything like that? And finally how big or long is it?

Try the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and/or Spirit Tracks. Both may not last twelve hours, but it's really fun to replay the games.

Oh, and in Phantom Hourglass: The solution to the sun puzzle is to close your DS.

Fun fact: I played that game while living in apt number 215. Seriously though, that game is amazing.
