I like how anytime a survey gets published, If it's calling Americans stupid, everyone laughs and says how stupid Americans are and yet if it's in Britain, all of a sudden the people are just giving stupid answers for the laughs but they're not really that stupid.

Exactly my thoughts. A lot of people are stupid: It's just that America, with it's higher population, has a higher population of Idiots. There can be stupid Britons, stupid French men, Stupid Japanese, Stupid Germans, Stupid Russians, Stupid Spanish, and even Stupid Swedes.

OT: [joke]I think the British have had a bit too much Dr. Who.[/joke]

The survey found that "over a fifth" of British citizen believe that lightsabers are real. Twenty four percent said they believe people can be teleported. Forty percent claim that hoverboards exist, while nearly half of respondents believe "memory-erasing technology exists." Perhaps the weirdest result, though, is that "nearly one-fifth (18%) of adults have the incorrect view that they can see gravity". Seriously, WTF does that mean?

Meanwhile, the survey revealed that people don't know much about recent scientific advances, including how scientists are working on growing organs in labs, that brain waves can be read and used to control various devices, and how sound vibrations can be detected and used in astronomical studies.
Well, did the question specify anything about working lightsabers? If not, then a yes is indeed correct. I can buy one of those toy things...

Teleporting is another tricky question. It isn't as simple as a fat scotish guy beaming you places, but has been done. Not on people, obviously, but I guess if you were to anthropomorphize subatomic particles...

Hoverboards...you mean these?
Yep, those exist, but sadly no gravity defyin' going on...

Memory erasing technology? Wow, that's a really long name for "ethanol." Just sayin', that's been around for quite a while...

Can you see gravity? No, but you cannot "see" light either. In both cases, you become aware of the effects they have.

So, either the people answering this are idiots, or they are fond of being smartasses like me. Still a funny post!

To be fair, none of those dubious question are as simple as a "yes" or "no" answer, either point of view can easily be debated depending on your interpretation of the vague and misleading question.

1. Can you spray Solar Cells on? YES

The University of Warwick is leading a consortium of eight UK universities in a £3.4 Million programme to develop technologies that will lead to a new generation of solar cell that you can not only wear, fold, bend, but can also be sprayed onto surfaces.
So it's theoretical technology that's being developed but does it actually exist yet? Can "you", as in the person being asked the question, walk into a shop and and buy a spray on Solar Cell kit, to spay on Solar Cells at the time of answering the question?

If I answered no, then I would be correct because I can't spray on Solar Cells.

3. Do hoverboards exist? NO
Hoverboards may no exist per say, but the magnetic propulsion technology that's behind Bullet Trains could be adapted for a board... just as you could in theory make a small hovercraft which is the size of a skateboard, but it may not support a human.

I would argue that Hoverboards do exist in the same sense that spray on Solar Cells exist. The theoretical technology is there, but no one has yet produced one for the consumer market.

Yeah, and most people believe homoeopathy, herbal medicines, astrology and psychic powers aren't bullshit, guess what, they're wrong!

Nothing to see here people, move along, it's only Birmingham.
Although most likely they were trolling their asses because that's how much of a fuck is given in England over surveys like that.

It's a completely open survey...

I don't think we need Sherlock Holmes to realise this is a number of people playing a joke.
Yep, and Vansau [the OP] fell for it.

Pretty sure people lied on that survey.

Also, define lightsabers. And I am pretty sure hoverboards exist, the Mythbusters made some in one episode. And you can erase your memory with drugs or a bullet. And gravity is caused by some sub-quantum particle (I think...), so technically you can see it... You just need a particle accelerator...

ITT: Stupid Americans taking this seriously...

I kid! I kid! But really have you actually tried that survey?

It's really hard not to answer ridiculously.

Wha!? Seriously? I really hope most of those people were trolling. Birmingham gets a bit of a bad rep but this doesn't help it much either.
That was my response. I think whoever did this survey just got trolled really really badly.

The british tend to fill these things in for fun (they don't take them seriously, or least i don't being british), and lightsabers may not properly exit but as said there are toy ones (+the high powered laser ones) and hoverboard again do exist but they use the same tech as hovercrafts (shown on the gadget show ages ago).
