The original Resident Evil had a animation between rooms to mask load times. In the remake the load times were non-existent so the animation was no longer needed. Playtester said it felt unnatural so they added the animation back in.
Those stupid door and staircase animations were the most frustrating part of that game! Well, except maybe the controls...

The famously awful E.T. game for the Atari 2600 actually sold more than its most famous game, Space Invaders. E.T. sold 1.5 million, while Invaders only shifted a million.

During the Cold War, America planned to fire a nuclear missile at the moon as a show of might. Someone decided it might be a waste of resources.

they also expected people to purchase several copies, so there were more cartridges made than there were game systems to play it on, meaning that to sell them all each person would have had to have like 2 copies or so.

that was retarded.

My mind has gone blank...

Dungeon Keeper 3 was going to be set above ground. Personally I think that may have been the point where Molyneux started to go a bit loopy...

Pikmin was inspired by gardening. It was also supposed to be developed as a title set in the Garden of Eden, but was changed.

Apparently NPC's tried to rake their carpets in the process of Making Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Sorry, most interesting thing that I immediately remembered.

Also, especially surprising with this community's general views on the subject (though NeutralDrow's taking steps to change things), but well-written eroge exists.

Fight Night: Round 2 made Little Mac look like sloth from the goonies...

And unrelated to video games:
-If you say beer can in a English accent you say bacon in a jamaican accent...
and the word bed looks like a bed

Fun fact: Naughty Dog and Insomniac originally worked in the same building on the Universal Interactive Studios backlot. This is said to be the reason for their close relationship with one another and the reason they seem to release very similar games(Crash to spyro, Jak to Ratchet, and Resistance to Uncharted).

There was also a plan to build a base on the moon. This was before the moon landing.
Here's a list of some crazy Cold War projects.

Final Fantasy was named so as it was supposed to be Square's final game due to a succession of unsuccessful games... guess we can all appreciate the irony here.
Didnt know that, and found it really interesting,

Did you know that there's only 14 final fantasy games that have indefinite numbers, even though there's well over 30 final fantasy games, because kingdom hearts and its spin-offs count too.

people know this, I just felt like saying it

What does this have to do with video games?
Its like he is trying to illicit a response or something...

The original halo game (before Microsoft bought Bungie) had the detachable turrets (which wouldn?t make it into the series till halo 3) and a machete.

there are screen shots out there if you can find them.
